Beast Machines Strika Toy Review

Price- $9.99
Class- Deluxe

Beast Machines! WOOO!!! So in the 2nd season, we were introduced to two new vehicon generals. As characters, they were really interesting (and somewhat under utilized) but as figures, they weren't hard to get. The first of the new Generals I am going to introduce is Strika. She is well... a she (for those of you who are counting, that's the 2nd of 3 female transformers, but the 3rd of 5 female characters if you count the Oracle). The figure isn't a retool of something else, and like RiD2.0 Strongarm, she doesn't look feminine (in the best way possible). Now, I remember in 2000 adoring this figure. I was just playing around with it (my actual original figure, not a rebuy) and I thought it would be appropriate to do a review of her.

Bot Mode-

So Strika.. what can I say about her? Well, in 2000 she was great, in 2020, that greatness is very far gone. I'm going to go out on a limb and say she outright sucks. She doesn't even have the "well if you don't touch her she can look good displayed" thing going for her. First, she is too small. Even for a deluxe figure, she is short. She should be at least Mega/Voyager sized. At least. She has trouble standing up properly. if you press the spark crystal on her back, it makes her cannons move in and out like they are shooting. It would've been a better idea to just slim back the back of the figure where she could stand up. Her head can't spin at all, so yeah there's that. Her arms are too short and there is no elbow bend. Her hands are a series of wires which can't hold anything, but since they can't come out of the panel, it doesn't matter. She can move her legs forwards but her knees are awkward. She has no real feet, just turned over wheels (which is actually animation accurate so it isn't bad so to speak) but they could've engineered the feet better where she could stand easily. Her main color is steel with a little gunmetal. THere are red eyes, metallic blue and some purple. THe wheel/feet are black and gold. The hands are wirey and are metallic blue. Her head looks like she is wearing a gasmask and there is some vehicle mode kibble which looks like a helmet above her head.

Strika's transformation is pretty simple, but for the time it was pretty standard.  For fun, I give her transformation an 6.5 out of 10 and for complexity, a 3.75 out of 10. I think my specific copy warped over 20 years of ownership because I am doing everything right, but she doesn't look right.

Vehicle Mode-

Strika is a CYBERTRONIAN (yes proper Cybertronian) APC. I gotta say, the vehicle mode is a lot better than the robot mode, but it is still too small. She has 6 wheels which are gold and black. There is a bit of robot kibble under the APC. Like all vehicons, there is a place in the front of the vehicle which looks like a cross between a head and a cockpit. She keeps the same colors as the robot mode and keeps the same gimmick. The copy I am reviewing is from 2000, not a newer version. I think my copy warped a little in my garage because I can't get her to peg together well, but I remember her pegging together well.

Strika comes with 2 missiles. In the show, she threw flaming barrels which exploded. I would've lked to have seen that

3rd Party Add Ons-

Um... unless you are a completest, stay away from this figure.

Basically read the whole review again and you will see that there are A LOT of cons.

What would I do differently?

The basics are kinda sorta there, but this figure is just a mess. From easiest to hardest, here's what I would change. Repaint the figure to be more accurate. Engineer the arms so they aren't hidden. Engineer the feet so she can stand up easily. Make the figure at least a Mega/Voyager. Make it where the head can turn.

Not only is Strika one of the worst Beast Machines figures in my collection, I really think she is the second worst figure in my entire collection hands down (Worst ever goes to Prime Airachnid, see Review HERE) If you're like me and you like the character, let me suggest that you get the MMC version. If you can't afford the MMC version, honestly, stay away from this figure. She gets a 1.75 out of 10.

Retools and Repaints-

Universe Strika (repaint, never going to get)
