Blitzwing

G1 Cartoon Background -

Blitzwing was introduced in the second season of G1 with no back story.  He just is a Decepticon.  Blitzwing was the first Triple Changer shown in the show.  He has the ability to transform from robot mode, to tank mode, to plane mode.

Blitzwing’s first mission is to go to Dinobot Island with the Decepticons to steal it’s energy.  Blitzwing uses a volcano to create new Energon Cubes for Megatron.  The Decepticons continue to make more and more Energon Cubes, and this disrupts the island.  After the Autobots attack, Blitzwing transforms into tank mode and shoots Beachcomber.  Warpath transforms into tank mode and engages Blitzwing.  The two tank Transformers fire at each other until the ground gives way.  The Decepticons have overpowered the Autobots. The Dinobots arrive with the dinosaur inhabitants of the island.  The Dinobots and dinosaurs defeat the Decepticons and the Decepticons retreat.

After the Decepticons conquer Central City, they turn all of it’s citizens into slaves.  Blitzwing and Astrotrain are slave masters in a mine.  While Megatron and Starscream are surveying the power plant, Soundwave detects a fleet of jets on approach to attack the Decepticons.  Starscream leads all of the Decepticon fliers to attack the jets.  The jets attack first, but the Decepticons use their missiles to destroy a lot of the jets.  The pilots realize they can’t win so the remaining few jets retreat to save their lives.  The Autobots storm the power plant to fight the Decepticons. .  Megatron fires his cannon at the wall to create an exit for himself and Starscream.  The Decepticons follow him outside of the power plant to battle the Autobots.  Blitzwing transforms into tank mode and fires his powerful cannon at the Autobots.  The Autobots prove to be too powerful and the Decepticons retreat.

Megatron stations Blitzwing outside of the new Decepticon base which is in an airport.  While Bumblebee is watching the Dinobots fight the Decepticons, Blitzwing approaches him.  Blitzwing transforms into tank mode and is about to shoot Bumblebee.  Sludge saves his small friend by creating a tremor in dinosaur mode.  Blitzwing fires but the tremor causes him to miss his mark.  Sludge walks closer and closer to Blitzwing and kicks him into the air.  Blitzwing knows not to battle a Dinobot on his own, so he transforms into jet mode and flies away.  Blitzwing returns to the battlefield after the Dinobots are defeated.   He flies away with the rest of the Decepticons.  While the Decepticons are flying in formation, out of no where, they start to fall to the ground.  The Decepticons are losing their ability to fly.   Megatron leads all of the Decepticons to a power plant to create more Energon Cubes.  He thinks that the reason that the all fell from the sky is because of bad Energon.  He hopes that fresh Energon will restore them.  Blitzwing sees the Autobots approaching and barrels down on Jazz in tank mode.  He fires his cannon and Jazz falls into a hole.  Blitzwing loses his motor functions and falls into the same hole. All of the Decepticons are malfunctioning in some way, so Megatron orders them to fly away.  None of them can, but the Autobots are malfunctioning as well.  Both sides stop fighting so they can find out what is wrong.

Blitzwing leads Thrust and Ramjet on a mission to observe the Autobots.  Several Autobots have left the Ark to explode a beach.  The Decepticons hide above them in a rock formation.  Upon Blitzwing’s command, the three Decepticons leap off of the rocks and transform into jet mode to attack the Autobots.  Blitzwing doesn’t attack the Autobots until after Ramjet and Thrust start fighting.  When Blitzwing attacks the Autobots in jet mode, Warpath fires his cannon at him.  Blitzwing dodges the barrage, flies around, and starts shooting lasers at Warpath.  While in midair, Blitzwing transforms into tank mode and crashes into Warpath.  Both tanks quickly recover and start firing at each other again.  Blitzwing is coated in Electrum and becomes invincible.  After the Decepticons defeat the Autobots, they return to the valley where the Electrum Pond is located.  Blitzwing discovers Beachcomber spying on the Decepticons and fires his weapon at Beachcomber.  The weapon is a tractor beam and prevents Beachcomber from escaping.  Megatron and Blitzwing return to the Decepticon base together.  Once Beachcomber is secured, Megatron commands that all of the Decepticons fly to battle Omega Supreme.  The Decepticons defeat him very quickly.  The Decepticons fly to the Ark to finally destroy all of the Autobots.  When they attack, they realize all that they destroy were dummies.  Megatron realizes that the Decepticons were lured away from the Golden Lagoon by the Autobots.  The Decepticons fly back to the Electrum and find the Autobots are already there and are coated by Electrum.  When the Decepticons attack, Omega Supreme emerges from the pool and both sides battle.  Because the Autobots and Decepticons are coated in Electrum, no one is able to harm the other.  Eventually, the Electrum that was coating the Decepticons wears off and the Autobots are victorious.  Unfortunately, the beautiful valley that housed the Electrum pool was destroyed by the vicious battle.
Blitzwing goes with the Decepticons to steal insecticide from Cosmos which can be used to damage the Insecticons.  When they get close, they find that there is a major infestation of Morphobots.  Once the Autobots rescue Cosmos from the Morphobots, Megatron has Dirge, Ramjet and Blitzwing assault them.  The three Decepticons attack from the air in plane mode.  There is a lull in the battle and the Morphobots wrap their vine around Megatron’s legs They bring him closer and closer to them so they can eat Megatron  He calls out for the Decepticons to help him.  All of the Decepticons rush to his aid but they are attacked by the Morphobots.  The battle ends when the Morphobots eat all of the Insecticons’ clones.

Megatron learns that a human, named Lord Chumley, has captured several Autobots so he can use them as bait to lure out Optimus Prime.  Chumley wants to hunt Optimus Prime for sport and keep his head as a trophy.  Megatron sends Astrotrain and Blitzwing to help Chumley defeat Optimus Prime.   Blitzwing and Astrotrain fly to Lord Chumley’s estate in their jet and shuttle modes (respectively).  They see Optimus Prime and Blitzwing wants to attack.  Astrotrain wants to be more covert and stay hidden instead of committing to a full on assault.  Blitzwing trips on a pipe and Optimus Prime realizes that he is being followed.  The Decepticons hide again and try to avoid letting Optimus Prime know that they are there.  Blitzwing and Astrotrain watch as Optimus Prime walks passed a trapped woman.  Blitzwing goes to step on her and Astrotrain tries to stop him.  Blitzwing is covered in a green liquid that hardens.  Astrotrain tries to shoot Blitzwing free, but is unable.  Chumley captures Astrotrain and Blitzwing and brings them to his dungeon.  Chumley offers to free the two captive Decepticons, but of course, they double cross him.  They retreat after Optimus Prime frees the captive Autobots and both Blitzwing and Astrotrain realize they have no functional weapons.

Starscream, Astrotrain, and Blitzwing go to a mountain and use their weapons to carve their faces, as well as Megatron’s, into the mountain.  Blitzwing quickly announces that he feels they would be better off if they left Megatron’s command.  Starscream damages the visage of Megatron in the mountain.  Taking cues from Starscream, Astrotrain and Blitzwing destroy the carving of Megatron.  The three Decepticons decide to go on their own after they overthrow Megatron.  Together, they fly to the Decepticon undersea base.  Blitzwing is going to lure out Megatron so the others can attack him.  In front of Starscream, Blitzwing reminds Astrotrain that for years, Starscream has been unsuccessful in trying to steal control of the Decepticons from Megatron.  Blitzwing declares that Starscream is a failure, but Starscream responds by saying he has just been waiting for the right time.  Starscream flies off to lure Megatron on his own.  Blitzwing tells Astrotrain that manipulating Starscream was easier than he thought it would be.  Astrotrain and Blitzwing double cross Starscream.  They freeze both Megatron and Starscream in the sewers to take command of the Decepticons for themselves.  Once Blitzwing and Astrotrain usurp leadership of the Decepticons from Megatron, Blitzwing decides to turn a college football stadium into “Blitzwing Headquarters”  He storms onto the field in tank mode and one of the players tries to run away.  Blitzwing points his cannon at the player, and follows him with the barrel wherever he goes.  If the player goes right, Blitzwing’s cannon goes right.  If the player goes left, the cannon goes left.  The Coach (who has a very familiar voice that sounds like Kup) tells the player to give Blitzwing the ball.  The ball gets stuck inside of Blitzwing’s cannon.  Blitzwing fires the ball into the scoreboard.  Blitzwing transforms and drafts the coach to be his tactical adviser.  Blitzwing breaks through the walls of the stadium and gives the locker room to the coach to be his new office.  The Coach pleads to Blitzwing and tells him that the only tactics he knows are football plays.  Blitzwing threatens to kill him if he doesn’t help.  The coach spits out in fear that the key to winning is a good defence.  Blitzwing wants to create a defensive plan, and to “keep the coach safe” he puts him inside of a locker.  Blitzwing has the Constructicons build him a highway maze.  After Blitzwing gets an update from Scrapper, he removes the coach from the locker to get more advice.  The Coach blurts out “Long Bomb” to Blitzwing.  Blitzwing assumes he means that he needs to attack his enemies from a far distance.  He transforms into tank mode and rolls back to the football field.  He starts lobbing shells at a bridge in the distance.  The bridge is severely damaged and people fall into the water.  Before they drown, they are saved by Hoist.  Blitzwing transforms into robot mode and continues to fire at the city in the distance with his blaster.  He declares that he earned five points and alters the scoreboard to reflect that.  A convoy of Autobots approach Blitzwing’s stadium.  Scrapper is about to have the Constructicons open fire on the Autobots to protect Blitzwing, but Blitzwing wants the Autobots to enter his highway maze outside of the stadium.  The Autobots race through the maze, but continue to crash into the walls.  Blitzwing enters the maze and targets Bluestreak while in tank mode.  Bluestreak tries to swerve from hitting Blitzwing, but Blitzwing drives right over him.  Blitzwing takes to the air in plane mode and fires on Prowl and Skids.  Both are disabled and Blitzwing crushes them in tank mode.  Tracks takes a blind turn in the maze and almost drives right into Blitzwing.  Tracks avoids driving into Blitzwing, but he crashes into a wall.  Like all of the other Autobots, Blitzwing crushes Tracks while in tank mode. Blitzwing returns to the football field and feels that each defeated Autobot is worth ten points in the game which is in his own head.  He alters the field’s scoreboard to reflect this.   The remains of all of the fallen Autobots are turned into a throne.  Blitzwing learns from Scrapper that Hoist and Smokescreen have stolen the throne.  Blitzwing takes this as an opportunity to get more points and transforms into Jet mode.  He flies into the air to attack reclaim his throne.  The Autobots are able to escape after Blitzwing crashes into Scrapper.  Later, the Constructicons burst into Blitzwing’s stadium.  They attack him, demanding that he lives up to his promise and makes them part of the leadership structure of the Decepticons.  Blitzwing tells them to build a bridge and jump off of it.  This angers the Constructicons.  They merge into Devestator and attack Blitzwing.  Devestator is choking Blitzwing..  He is about to finish Blitzwing off when a tidal wave breaks through into the stadium.  Astrotrain is caught up in the flood.  Blitzwing sees that Devestator is momentarily distracted and transforms into tank mode.  He drives over Devestator and tries to get help from Astrotrain.  Astrotrain has turned on Blitzwing and attacks him.  Blitzwing charges at full speed towards Astrotrain in robot mode.  Astrotrain remains calm and punches Blitzwing in the face.  Megatron and Starscream fly into the stadium to reclaim their titles.  Megatron knocks Astrotrain and Blitzwing’s heads into each other and reminds them that he can recycle them at any time.  Megatron, Starscream, Devestator, Blitzwing, and Astrotrain have a free for all battle in the stadium.  It is resolved off camera, but Megatron is the winner and reclaims his role as leader. He spares Starscream, Astrotrain, Blitzwing, and the Constructicons for the greater good of the Decepticons.

After Astrotrain is damaged, Blitzwing acts as the transportation system for the Decepticons.  The Stunticons capture Perceptor and Blitzwing flies Perceptor inside of him (yay for mass shifting) to Megatron.  Soon after Blitzwing takes off, the Aerialbots find him.  The Aerialbots chase Blitzwing through the skies of New York City.  Blitzwing flies very recklessly to escape the Aerialbots.  The Aerialbots stay on his tail.   Blitzwing changes course to fly over the water so the Aerialbots pick up speed.  The Aerialbots refuse to attempt to shoot Blitzwing down so Perceptor won’t be harmed.  Blitzwing contacts Megatron to tell him he is close to the Decepticon base, but the Aerialbots are still following him.  The entry pillar of the Decepticon base ascends from the water.  Ramjet and Dirge exit the pillar with Megatron’s lightning bug.  They activate it and fire purple lightning at the Aerialbots.  Blitzwing enters the base and the Coneheads continue firing lightning at the Aerialbots.

Marvel G1 Comic Background -

Blitzwing was a Decepticon that was based out of Cybertron.  He was tasked by Ratbat, along with Octane and Astrotrain, to go to Earth so they could investigate a space freighter that Ratbat sent and lost contact with.  Once on Earth, Blitzwing takes command of the Triple Changers and they quickly find the captain of the space freighter, but he is very sick (I bet you didn’t know Transformers could get sick )and is falling apart.  The captain tells them to stay back and Blitzwing is bitten by a Scraplet and becomes infected by them.  Soon , two Autobots arrive at the crash site and Blitzwing leads the other Triple Changers in battle against Goldbug and Blaster.  Goldbug is separated from the battle and Blitzwing continues his relentless attack against Blaster, now in tank mode.    Blaster falls into the crater and is infected.  Goldbug is the only one left not infected and retreats to look for a cure.  Ratbat sends The Throttlebots to kill all of the infected, and Blitzwing is the first to notice their arrival.  He wants to attack them but is too weak.  Soon after, Goldbug returns with the cure, common water, and Blitzwing and the other Decepticons are cured.  Both Autobot and Decepticon join forces to finally destroy the Scraplets.  The Decepticon Triple changers then escape with the space freighter.

Blitzwing shows up a few months later assisting the Constructicons in stealing a large mass of steel from a construction site. Shortly after, Blitzwing is part of a large attack force organized by Ratbat to attack the Autobots on the moon.  Blitzwing is nearly cut in half by Grimlock, but he recovers.

Blitzwing is then shown in the battle between Scorponok’s Decepticons and Ratbat’s Decepticons, he kills Horri-Bull, ironically cutting him in half.  Soon after, Blitzwing is part of an attack force to destroy an enhanced Starscream.  Blitzwing is quickly killed.
