G1 Cartoon

Ironhide was an Autobot who was featured a lot more than others.  Ironhide seemed to be a little older than the majority of the Autobots.  There were a few times when Ironhide was Optimus Prime’s second in command.  Ironhide’s animation model was significantly different from his toy.  Ironhide transformed into a red van.  Aside for his typical combat abilities, Ironhide demonstrated the ability to spray fluids (usually liquid nitrogen but other liquids were shown at times) from his hands.

Ironhide is part of the crew of the Ark, the ship that Optimus Prime uses to leave Cybertron in search for a new home.  During the trip, the Ark gets hit by asteroids and Ironhide winds up injuring his shoulder.  He leaks lubricants all over himself but is strong enough to fire on the meteors, saving the Ark.  The Decepticons soon board the ship.  Soundwave attacks several Autobots, and Ironhide drop kicks Soundwave. The Ark crashes into Earth and the Autobots and Decepticons are dormant for millions of years.  Ironhide is part of an Autobot strike force to stop the Decepticons from gathering energy.  The Autobots track the Decepticons to an off shore oil platform.  Once they arrive, the Decepticons attack.  Ironhide duels with Starscream using metal poles as spears.  After a brief battle, Megatron damages the oil rig and retreats with the Decepticons.

Ironhide soon sees action again when the Autobots go to Sherman Dam to defend it against Decepticons.  He and Bumblebee try to alleviate the flooding waters together.  Ironhide transforms into vehicle mode and Bumblebee rides inside of him.  Bumblebee uses a laser to dig trenches for the water to pour into, saving a lot of humans.  The Autobots then attempt to stop the Decepticons from mining the ruby crystals of Burma.  Ironhide wants to commit to a frontal assault, but Sparkplug has a different idea.  Sparkplug and Bumblebee sneak into the mine to plant explosives.

When the explosives go off, Bumblebee and Sparkplug are still in the mine.  Ironhide is the first to start digging out the mine in search of his friends.  He uses a drill mounted on his arm to dig through the rock.  Soon after the Autobots dig out their friends, the Decepticons escape.  Ironhide tries to catch the Decepticons by flying after them.  Bluestreak flies after Ironhide.  Ironhide deploys a rocket launcher from his back and hits Skywarp with a missile.  Skywarp teleports behind the two Autobots and starts attacking them.  They try to avoid his attacks, but Skywarp shoots Ironhide out of the air.  He lands in a pond, and can’t move.  Bluestreak gets him out of the water and loads him into Ratchet for repairs.

After Ironhide is repaired, he is part of an Autobot assault team whose mission is to prevent the Decepticons from leaving Earth.  The Autobots arrive at the same time that the Decepticons are boarding their ship.  During the battle, The Autobots have the upper hand in the battle, but the Decepticons retreat to their space cruiser but crash into the ocean.

After months of peace, the Decepticons resurface and attack a solar power plant.  Optimus Prime organizes a team of Autobots to stop them.  Ironhide is included in the team.  The Autobots burst into the power plant and fight the Decepticons.  As the Decepticons are escaping with the Energon, Megatron transforms himself into gun mode and Soundwave wields him to fire on Optimus Prime.  Ironhide leaps into the path of the blast and saves Optimus.  Then Decepticons escape.  Optimus Prime has Ratchet repair Ironhide.  Later, Ironhide is part of a rescue party to save Spike from the Decepticons.  The Autobots don’t know they are walking into a trap.  Inside of a cave, the Decepticons trap the Autobots inside, and attack.  Soundwave is about to deploy Ravage to fight the Autobots, but Ironhide attacks him and prevents Ravage joining the fight.  Megatron watches and is about to fire on Ironhide.  Optimus Prime dives though the air and saves Ironhide, repaying Ironhide for saving him at the power plant.  When the Decepticons retreat, they trap the Autobots inside of the cave.  Ratchet starts to repair Bumblebee inside of the cave and discovers that Bumblebee’s memory circuits were altered.  Once Ratchet repairs him, he reveals the true location of the Space Bridge.  Together, the Autobots fire on the rocks which are keeping them trapped in the cave.  They then go to the correct location of the Decepticon Space Bridge.  The Autobots arrive just in time to save Spike.  Ironhide wants to blow up the pod with a bazooka, but that will kill Spike.  Optimus Prime and Bumblebee save Spike.  Optimus Prime knocks the pod off course and Megatron gathers up the Energon to send to Cybertron.  He is also sent to Cybertron, but is thought to have died.

Ironhide is part of an Autobot team whose mission was to stop the Decepticons from gaining the power of Anti Matter. When the Autobots attack, Megatron uses the Anti Matter Energon Cubes as weapons, causing a massive explosion.  The Decepticons escape and the damaged Autobots return to base for repairs.

Ironhide later helps defend a munitions factory against the Decepticons.  The factory is making weapons for the humans to fight the Decepticons with.  The Autobots arrive too late.  The battle is over and Optimus Prime is damaged.  Ironhide tows Optimus Prime and his trailer back to the Ark for repairs..  Wheeljack and Ratchet work on Optimus, but Optimus Prime is fading away.  During the repairs, Laserbeak sneaks onto the Ark and damages Optimus more.  Optimus Prime needs a part from Cybertron, so Ironhide and several other Autobots track down the Decepticon Space Bridge to go to the mechanical planet.  They are attacked by Shockwave when they get to Cybertron.  Ironhide helps the Autobots escape when he makes a hole in the wall using liquid nitrogen. Then Ironhide shoots a sticky compound at Shockwave’s feet, trapping him.   Once Ironhide finds the part, the Autobots plan to go back to Earth.  The Autobots are attacked by several Decepticons who use Acid Rain as a weapon.  They are about to die, but Trailbreaker uses his force field to protect them from the Acid Rain.  They are then able to return to Earth with the new part for Optimus.  Optimus Prime is repaired just in time to save all of the Autobots from destruction.

When the Decepticons are causing climate change by stealing Earth’s thermal energy from the Arctic, Ironhide is part of the assault team to stop the Decepticons.  When they reach their destination, they find a new Decepticon guarding the Decepticon camp.  This Decepticon is named Skyfire.  Skyfire attacks and the Autobots scatter.  The battle ends when Skyfire brings Spike and Sparkplug to Megatron.  When the Autobots try to save them, Gears, Ratchet, Ironhide and Hound fall through the ice.  They travel through the ice caves, and come across Soundwave and Reflector making Energon Cubes.  Megatron discovers them and they are captured.  Ironhide and the Autobots are bound to a large crystal.  Starscream wants Skyfire to execute them.  Skyfire refuses and Starscream shoots him in the chest.  Thinking that Skyfire is dead, Starscream then fires on the captured Autobots.  When the dust clears, he sees nothing but Autobot body parts in the snow.  Thinking they are dead, Starscream returns to the caves.  The Autobots were saved by Hound who made an illusion of dead Autobots.  The Autobots are soon attacked by the Decepticons while Ratchet works on fixing Skyfire.  Skyfire defeats the Decepticons, but is buried in ice again.

At the Ark, the Autobots are feeling some unusual seismic events.  Spike and Ironhide look for the cause.  They find a cavern with dinosaur bones in it.  This sparks the creation of the Dinobots.  When the Dinobots come online, they attack the Autobots.  Ironhide is damaged when Sludge fires on him with laser eye beams.  The Dinobots are deactivated and sent to the hidden cavern.  Ironhide then goes with several other Autobots to fight the Decepticons at a dam.Megatron  attacks the Autobots, sending them plummeting into the water.  The Decepticons bind the Autobots with energy chains, and prepare to destroy them.  Before the Decepticons can fire, Wheeljack and the Dinobots save the Autobots.  While the Dinobots are fighting the Decepticons, Wheeljack frees the captured Autobots.

Ironhide and the Autobots take Skyfire to Peru to stop the Decepticons from turning an energy crystal into a weapon.  They go to a mining village which Megatron is attacking to get raw materials to build a cannon for the crystal.   While escaping, Megatron fires on a mountain, causing an avalanche to occupy the Autobots. .  The Autobots then make their way to the Inca Temple to battle the Decepticons.  As they approach, Megatron fires the cannon at the Autobots, but they are able to dodge his attacks.  During the battle, Megatron destroys a hill which covers the Autobots in rubble.  The Autobots dig themselves out and continue to try to stop the Decepticons.  The Decepticons attack in force, and the Autobots are trapped behind cover.  Ironhide and Optimus Prime are able to avoid detection and together, they attack Megatron.   Megatron fires at them with the cannon and hits Ironhide.  Ironhide falls and Optimus Prime catches him when he falls.  Ironhide soon recovers and attacks Megatron.  Megatron tries to hit him with the Crystal Cannon, but Ironhide leaps over the cannon and tackles Megatron.  Ironhide is no match for Megatron.  Megatron grabs Ironhide and lifts him up.  Then Megatron tosses Ironhide at Optimus Prime.  Megatron goes back to the crystal cannon and points it at the two Autobots.  Before he can fire, he is attacked by Skyfire who destroys the cannon.  The Decepticons are defeated and retreat.

Ironhide and the Autobots respond to Chip’s call for help.  Chip discovers a meteor that is about to hit Earth.  Ironhide and the Autobots go to an observatory to see how they can help.  Chip tells the Autobots that the meteor contains a significant amount of energy inside of it.  The Autobots want to prevent the Decepticons from acquiring it.   When the meteor crashes to Earth, debris flies everywhere.  It is about to hit Chip and Spike, but Ironhide shields them.  Optimus Prime has the Dinobots guard the meteor, and the rest of the Autobots return to base.  Later Ratchet and Wheeljack have Prowl, Bluestreak, Sideswipe, and Ironhide test the new Dinobots, Snarl and Swoop.  Ironhide tries to lift Snarl, but Snarl is too big.  He swats Ironhide away with his tail.

While Optimus Prime and several Autobots are in India, Sparkplug does maintenance on Ironhide.  They are interrupted when Rumble creates an earthquake inside of the Ark.  Ironhide, Bumblebee, and Sideswipe start searching for Rumble inside of their headquarters.  Later, the Autobots learn that the Decepticons are building a massive Space Bridge.  Ironhide goes with Optimus Prime, and the Autobots to investigate.

The Decepticons are successful in activating the Space Bridge.  It brings Cybertron to Earth and causes numerous natural disasters across the globe.  Ironhide mentions that he never thought he would be sad to see Cybertron.  Optimus Prime feels defeated.  His actions may cause Earth to be destroyed.  Ironhide tells him that he had no other choice.  The Autobots are forced to retreat when Soundwave uses a sonic attack to clear the area.  Later, the Autobots are forced to evacuate their base when the volcano that houses their ship becomes active again. Ironhide rushes into the core of the volcano and starts shooting at the roof.  Rocks fall in the lava cooling it down and the Autobots can go back to their base.

Ironhide and the Autobots travel on surfboards on the ocean.  There is a massive tidal wave approaching them.  The Autobots use the momentum of the tidal wave to travel to Megatron’s base on Earth.  The Autobots arrive just in time to see Megatron escape on a starship filled with Energon Cubes.  The Autobots track Megatron to a tropical island where he is using slaves to put Energon Cubes in his ship. Once the mind controlled slaves are out of harms way, the Autobots attack.   The Autobots are about to be defeated when Skyfire arrives with reinforcements.  The Autobots are victorious when they destroy Megatron’s ship.. The explosion caused by the Energon Cubes inside of it knocks Cybertron out of Earth’s orbit.  Earth is saved and the Autobots assume that Megatron is dead.

Earth is safe from destruction, but it is in bad condition.  Ironhide helps with the rebuilding process.  He fills holes in with cement.   When the Autobots learn that Megatron is alive, the Autobots follow the Decepticons to Dr. Arkeville’s lab.  When the Decepticons learn they are being followed, Megatron sends Skywarp and Thundercracker to attack the Autobots. Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to transform and get to cover.  Wheeljack and Ironhide both say they want to fight not hide.  The brief battle ends after Optimus Prime throws Megatron in a lake and the Decepticons retreat.  The Autobots continue to follow the Decepticons, but the Decepticons lead them into a trap.  They guide the Autobots into a canyon filled with quicksand.  The Autobots transform to dig themselves out, but the Decepticons get away.  Ironhide is instrumental in saving the Autobots from the quicksand.  As they are sinking, Ironhide freezes the quicksand with his liquid nitrogen blast.   Optimus Prime and Megatron work together to save the Earth and the Autobots return home.

Ironhide goes to Bali with the Autobots to investigate an Insecticon attack.  Once the Autobots start attacking the Decepticons and Insecticons, they fly into the air to get away.  The Autobots track the Insecticons and Decepticons to an oil refinery.  When the Autobots arrive, they fight the Decepticons.  Thundercracker ignites the oil slicked water.  The fire is about to spread to an oil tanker and the refinery.  Ironhide puts the fire out with his liquid nitrogen.  The battle ends when the Insecticons betray the Decepticons and steal their Energon Cubes.

Ironhide detects Decepticon energy signatures approaching the Autobot base.  It turns out to be only one Decepticon, Megatron.  He challenges Optimus Prime to a one on one battle in an ancient Cybertronian custom.  Ironhide travels with the Autobots to a crater in the desert to watch the battle.  After Optimus loses the battle (because Megatron cheated), Ironhide wants to fight the Decepticons.  Optimus Prime doesn’t know Megatron cheated and orders him to stand down.  Ironhide goes with the Autobots travel back to the Ark to prepare to leave Earth forever. When the Autobots get close to their base, they see the Dinobots fighting Devestator.  Ironhide wants to help the Dinobots, but Optimus reminds him that they can’t.  Chip figures out that Megatron cheated and the Autobots stay on Earth.  The Autobots fight the Decepticons outside of their base and drive them into a lava filled crack in the Earth.  The Autobots assume that the Decepticons are not only defeated, but dead.

Sparkplug creates Autobot X, a mindless creature made of Autobot spare parts, the robot immediately starts trying to destroy the Autobot base.  Ironhide, Prowl, and Trailbreaker work together to destroy the robot.  Ironhide goes back into action almost right away.  He joins Optimus Prime and several other Autobots to defend an Air Force Base from the Decepticons.  When the Autobots arrive, Ironhide is shot in the chest by Starscream.    Spike is injured in the battle and is in a coma.  Sparkplug, Wheeljack, and Ratchet put Spike’s mind into Autobot X’s robot body.  Autobot Spike can’t think clearly and is violent.  He winds up joining the Decepticons.  When the Decepticons attack, Ironhide fires a weird liquid at them.  The Decepticons are forced to retreat when Autobot Spike uses Megatron in gun mode to attack them.

Wheeljack is using a hologram of Laserbeak to test his new invention.  When Ironhide enters the lab, he thinks the hologram of Laserbeak is the real thing and starts shooting.   Ironhide travels with the Autobots into the forest to help Wheeljack test the Immobilizer.  When they reach the test site, Ironhide is ordered to stand guard.  While the Autobots are testing the device, Ironhide detects something moving in the brush.  He assumes that it is a Decepticon.  He fires his blaster and shoots down a tree.  When he goes to investigate, he finds Carly.  While he was looking for Carly, the Decepticons attacked the test site and steal the Immobilizer.  Ironhide feels responsible.  At the Ark, Ratchet repairs Ironhide and tries to cheer him up.  Ironhide feels he is too old and tells Optimus Prime that he is retiring.  Ironhide assigns himself monitor duty.  Sparkplug rushes to Ironhide to tell him that the sky spy discovered that Laserbeak captured Carly.  Sparkplug convinces Ironhide to save her.  He travels inside of Skyfire to rescue her, but he has Skyfire let him out when he sees Bumblebee and Spike.  Together, they plan to save Carly.  Ironhide swims to the Decepticon base, which was taking on water because of a bomb Carly planted on it’s hull.  Moments before she drowns, Ironhide saves her.  The Decepticons use the Immobilizer on Ironhide right after he saves Carly.  Carly rewires the Immobilizer and Ironhide is mobile again.  Ironhide shoots Rumble and the remote of the Immobilizer.  Soundwave sends Laserbeak to attack Ironhide, but Optimus protects him.  Ironhide restores the Autobots who were immobilized.  Ironhide smashes the Immobilizer and the Decepticons retreat.

When the Dinobots damage the Ark, Cliffjumper, Ironhide and Sideswipe want to attack the Dinobots.  Optimus Prime won’t let them.  After the Dinobots move to Dinobot Island, time portals start opening up.  Ironhide goes with Optimus Prime and the Autobots to investigate.A woolly mammoth and a caveman have already come out of atime warp and are causing damage to the town.  The longer it stays open, the more cavemen and mammoths come through the portal and damage the town.  The Autobots work to corral the cavemen and mammoth.  A trio of cavemen start destroying the town, Ironhide subdues them with his glue gun.  Optimus Prime has the Huffer, Sideswipe, and Ironhide load the mammoths into his trailer.   The Autobots successfully send the cavemen and mammoths back to their proper time by sending everything back into the portal.   Chip Chase figures out that Dinobot Island is the cause of the time portals.  Ironhide travels with the Autobots with a jet pack to the island.  When the Autobots arrive on Dinobot Island, they quickly see the Decepticons stealing the island’s energy.  When Megatron discovers the Autobots, he fires his cannon at Optimus Prime.  Optimus is damaged and Ironhide rushes to his side asthe rest of the Autobots attack the Decepticons.  The Decepticons are starting to win the battle.  The Autobots are on the ground and the Decepticons are unleashing the full power of their weapons on the damaged Autobots.   They are saved when the Dinobots join the battle with the dinosaurs of the island.  The Decepticons are defeated and retreat.

Cliffjumper discovers where the Decepticons may be hiding a piece of stolen energy creating equipment.   Ironhide joins the Autobots on a mission to recover it.  Cliffjumper leads the Autobots to a valley where he found the Decepticons..  Laserbeak discovers the Autobots and they leap into the valley to battle the Decepticons.  During the battle, Shrapnel hits the Electro Cells with his blaster accidentally. .  The Autobots retreat so the Electro Cells won’t be in further jeopardy of destroying the Earth.

While Optimus Prime is talking to Dr. Fujiama in the Ark, Ironhide assures the scientist that the Decepticons can’t listen in.  Ironhide goes to Japan with the Autobots to help guard Dr. Fujiama’s robotic creation, Nightbird.  When the Decepticons attack, Optimus makes sure that the humans are safe before he allows the Autobots to fight.  During the battle, Ironhide fires on Laserbeak, but the bird is too fast for Ironhide to damage.  Laserbeak shoots a piece off of the ceiling, and it lands on Ironhide, pinning him to the ground.  Optimus Prime rushes to save Ironhide, but Megatron sees an opportunity and shoots Optimus Prime in the back.  The battle ends when Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp rip the ceiling off of the building and steal Nightbird.  Once Nightbird is stolen, the rest of the Decepticons retreat.

When a gold mine is being attacked by Decepticons, Optimus Prime sounds the alarm to rally the Autobots.  Gears is slowly walking to the briefing and complains that he was getting his relays lubed.  Ironhide tells him to hurry up and maintenance can wait. The Autobots transform and head to the mine to fight the Decepticons.  When the Autobots arrive,  they observe the mine.  The Autobots see that the Decepticons have placed the miners in an electrified cage.  As the Decepticons are about to kill the miners, the Autobots attack..  The battle comes to an abrupt end when the Decepticons abduct Gears and fly away.  The Decepticons have activated a machine which creates solar flares and is damaging the planet by creating earthquakes.  Ironhide grabs Cliffjumper to save him from a rock about to crush him.  The Autobots travel to Africa to stop the Decepticons, save the Earth, and save Gears.  When they reach the Decepticon base, Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to fire on the Solar Needle to destroy it, even though it puts Gears at risk.  The Autobots’ attack is reflected back at them by a force field Megatron erected around the Solar Needle.  Optimus Prime wants to hurl himself at the machine to disrupt the force field and Ironhide tries to stop him.  Cliffjumper takes matters into his own hands and disrupts the force field by leaping into it in vehicle mode.  The Autobots attack the Decepticon base..  The Autobots have the Decepticons at gun point, but Megatron is holding Optimus Prime as a hostage.  Optimus Prime tells the Autobots to disregard Megatron and to destroy the Solar Needle.  The Autobots can’t, they drop their weapons and surrender.  The Autobots can’t, they drop their weapons and surrender.  Optimus Prime convinces Gears to disable the Solar Needle and the sun doesn’t explode.

Ironhide accompanies the Autobots when they investigate a mass of energy filled crystals in a valley.   When they reach the crystals, Ironhide comments that they are so filled with energy, that he feels their heat.  Before the Autobots can continue their study, Starscream leads the Decepticons to attack the Autobots.  The Decepticons quickly retreat and the Autobots return to the Ark.  The Autobots don’t know that their leader was replaced by a clone that is controlled by Megatron.  Ironhide is the first to suspect something when the clone keeps calling him Bumblebee.  Teletran 1’s proximity alarm goes off and the Autobots prepare for an attack.  The Autobots see that the real Optimus Prime is trying to get into the base.  The clone orders the Autobots to let the real Optimus in, and then destroy him as he enters.  As the real Optimus walks through a door, the Autobots point their blasters at him.  Ironhide gets between the Autobots and Optimus, shielding him.  Ironhide wants to make sure that the Autobots know which is the real Optimus before anyone or anything is destroyed.  The Autobots set up a series of competitions for the two Optimus Primes, but the tests are inconclusive.  Until the Autobots figure out which is the real Optimus, Ironhide leads the Autobots.  He leads them back to the crevice filled with energy crystals.  It is a trap and the Decepticons immediately attack.  Skywarp throws a grenade at Ironhide during the battle.  The Autobots watch as clone Optimus battles a clone of Starscream and destroys him.  The Autobots assume that only the real Optimus Prime would be able to destroy Starscream so they accept him as the real one.  Windcharger emerges from the energy crystals and explains to the Autobots that Clone Optimus is an impostor and Spike has been captured by the Decepticons.  When the Clone refuses to save Spike, the Autobots know he is the fake and destroy him.

When the Decepticons ally themselves with the undersea nation of Atlantis, they invade Washington DC.  Ironhide travels with the Autobots to liberate the city.  The Autobots arrive in time to make it into the city before the Atlantean force field is activated.  They attack the Decepticons and Atlanteans.  Thundercracker attacks Ironhide with his blasters.  In the end, the Autobots defeat the Decepticons and they escape.  After repairing Washington DC, the Autobots travel to Atlantis again to confront the Atlanteans and Decepticons.

When the Autobots have some down time, Perceptor works on fixing Ironhide’s memory circuits.  Optimus Prime enters the repair bay and asks Ironhide to join him and the Autobots on a mission after he is repaired.  Ironhide shows up with Cliffjumper and Bluestreak just as Megatron injures Optimus Prime.  Megatron has enhanced himself by integrating a Star Drive (also known as the Heart of Cybertron) into his power core.  Ironhide is damaged in the battle.  Together, the Autobots fire their weapons at a hill causing a rock slide.

Ironhide is part of an Autobot strike force that Optimus Prime creates to save Grapple, Hoist, and their Solar Tower from the Decepticons and Constructicons.   The Autobots stay in vehicle mode and shoot lasers out of their headlights.  When the Autobots start to overpower the Constructicons, Megatron orders them to merge into Devestator.  Devestator attacks the Autobots with his eye beams.  The Autobots fight back, but their weapons aren’t strong enough to damage Devestator’s armor.  After Smokescreen makes Devestator’s foot get stuck in the Solar Tower, the Autobots combine their fire power and attack Devestator.  Devestator and the Solar Tower fall apart.

When Bumblebee contacts the Ark to report on the Insecticons’ plot to storm the Nova Power Plant, Ironhide wants to help.  He knows that if the Insecticons engorge themselves on the power plant, the Autobots won’t be able to stop them.  While most of the Autobots are fighting the Decepticons outside of the power plant, Optimus Prime orders Wheeljack and Ironhide to deal with the Insecticons.  They climb on the side of the electrical towers to breach the main generator.  Ironhide asks Wheeljack if he sees anything, Wheeljack doesn’t which bothers him.  Suddenly, the Insecticons burst out of the main building.  They have consumed massive amounts of energy which caused them to grow much larger.  Ironhide and Wheeljack are discovered by Bombshell.  The Insecticons transform into beast mode to attack the two Autobots.  Shrapnel electrifies the tower which Ironhide is climbing and it starts to crumble.  Ironhide’s wrist opens up and he falls.  Ironhide is glowing from the electrical damage, but Inferno sprays him with foam and he remains functional.  Wheeljack and Ironhide are loaded into Optimus Prime’s trailer so he can bring them back to the Ark for repairs.  Ironhide is repaired by Ratchet back at the Autobot headquarters.  Ironhide joins the Autobots on a mission almost right away.  The Decepticons and Insecticons are attacking a facility called Iron Mountain to steal a combat computer.  The Autobots also learn that the Insecticons are going to detonate from the unstable energy they consumed.  Ironhide goes with the Autobots to Iron Mountain.  When the Autobots reach Iron Mountain, the Decepticons enter the facility while the Insecticons fight the Autobots.  Early in the battle, Shrapnel fires his blaster at rocks above the Autobots. Ironhide acts as a shield to protect Spike from falling rocks.  Optimus Prime and Megatron work together to prevent the Insecticons from exploding. The Insecticons fly away with the Decepticons chasing them.

Ironhide goes on a mission with the Autobots to save the staff of Quantum Labs.  Megatron reprogrammed a powerful computer called Torq III.  Torq III has complete control of the lab and confined the workers inside.  The Autobots are quickly attacked by the automated defenses which are being controlled by Torq III.  The Autobots draw their weapons and rush into the compound.  They are met by a squad of tanks which are also under Torq III’s control.  Once the Autobots realize that they are being attacked by computer controlled drones, they don’t hold back.  Ironhide is shot in the shoulder by one of the tanks.  The Autobots are surrounded by tanks and the automated cannons start to target them.  Instead of retreating or commanding the Autobots to destroy the vehicles, Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to disable the vehicles by shooting the tires.  The tanks overwhelm the team of Autobots, but they are saved by the Dinobots.  Torq III uses an automated machine emerges from the control room to attack the Autobots.  More and more machines come out of the lab to fight the Autobots.  One of them tries to spray something at Ironhide to damage him.  Ironhide sticks his finger in the nozzle and the machine explodes.  After all of the machines are destroyed, Optimus Prime leads the Autobots into Torq III’s main building.  Torq III has altered the building to become a maze.  Optimus Prime leaves the rest of the Autobots at the entrance of the maze so they can’t get lost.  After Optimus Prime successfully deactivates Torq III, the Autobots use one of Quantum Labs’ hydrofoils to reach the Decepticon oil platform.    The Autobots and Decepticons battle, and everyone is shooting wildly.  Megatron runs away and sets explosives to go off on the platform and the Decepticons retreat.  The Autobots board their boat and escape safely.

Ironhide and the Autobots respond to a distress call from a Solar Power Facility that was just built. When the Autobots arrive, they see that the Decepticons are already battling tanks driven by humans.  The Decepticons are overwhelming the tanks and destroying them.  Ironhide, Smokescreen, and Warpath combine their firepower to battle Starscream.  Starscream lifts his arms into the air to shield himself from the energy blasts but falls to the ground.  He calls out for Thrust to help him.  Thrust fires a barrage of missiles at the three Autobots, sending them flying into the air.  The battle is very short and the Autobots successfully defend the facility.  The mayor of Central City praises the Autobots for their good work.  When the mayor of Central City declares an Autobot Day holiday, Ironhide is part of the parade in vehicle mode.  Shawn Berger interrupts the ceremony with a tape of fake Autobots fighting the Decepticons at the oil refinery.  Berger then shows another video taken of a fake Wheeljack telling a fake Optimus Prime that the Autobots have been using a device on the Decepticons to make them act evilly.  Ironhide wants to immediately work to prove the Autobots’ innocence.  Optimus Prime is more passive and wants to try to let things work themselves out.  The Autobots return to the Ark and await an investigation.  The next thing they know, Shawn Berger is approaching the Ark with a platoon of his tanks.  Ironhide and Cliffjumper want to fight, but Optimus won’t allow them to.  He orders the Autobots to submit to Berger’s tanks but they will only surrender to a legitimate law enforcement official.  The Mayor is in Berger’s helicopter and places the Autobots under arrest. Again, Ironhide wants to fight but Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to submit to the arrest peacefully.  The Autobots are given a trial and are found guilty.  They are exiled from the Earth forever.  After their ship takes off, Megatron uses Teletran 1 to alter the flight plan to send the Autobots into the sun.

After the Autobots were exiled from Earth, Cosmos guides the Autobot spacecraft away from Earth.  Ironhide complains that the trip is taking too long, but Hound defends Cosmos.  Ironhide blames Optimus Prime for giving up too easily and causing the Autobot exile.   Optimus orders Cliffjumper to turn the ship around so the Autobots can return to Earth.  The controls are unresponsive and they can’t change course. The ship is destroyed and the world thinks the Autobots are dead.  They survive when Trailbreaker surrounds the Autobots with a force field and links it to Cosmos.  Cosmos guides the Autobots back to Earth.  Once the Autobots return to Earth, they follow Optimus Prime to a power plant to engage Megatron and the Decepticons.  The Autobots prove to be too powerful and the Decepticons retreat.  After the battle, Ironhide uses a laser from his finger to break the energy chains which were restraining Chip and Spike.

Ironhide follows the Autobots to a rocket base to test a new weapon called the Negavator which Wheeljack created..  The Negavator is a tank like vehicle which a Transformer can ride inside of that has the power to vaporize mater.  The Autobots congratulate Wheeljack for his hard work, but before the festivities can continue, Red Alert’s early warning system sounds.  Decepticons are on their way to the rocket base.  Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to transform into vehicle mode to engage the incoming Decepticons.  Red Alert stays behind to guard the weapon with Inferno.  The Autobots try to exit the compound, but they are ambushed by Rumble, Frenzy, and Ravage.  The three small Decepticons are unleashing a torrent of laser fire on the Autobots.  Optimus orders the Autobots to transform out of vehicle mode and fight the Decepticons.  Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and Hoist are the first to start fighting.  They ready their weapons, and Buzzsaw joins the fight.  From the air, he fires on the three Autobots. Optimus Prime orders them to fall back so the heat from the laser attacks won’t damage their internal processors.  Ravage fires one of his missiles at the main exit of the Autobots’ bunker and they are trapped.  Hoist and Grapple dig the Autobots free and they continue to defend the Negavator.  Grapple and Ironhide fire their blasters at Buzzsaw and Frenzy.  The two Decepticons are able to dodge the assault.   Inferno is forced to short out the Negavator to save Optimus Prime.  Between the Negavator being shorted out and the small team of Decepticons being outnumbered and outgunned, Soundwave orders a retreat.  The Autobots transform into vehicle mode and travel through a desert canyon back to the Ark.  They are ambushed by the Decepticons when Rumble uses his pile drivers to create an avalanche.  They transform into robot mode, but boulders continue to fall on them.  Starscream, the Seekers, and the Coneheads swoop down from the air in jet mode and start unleashing a fury of weapons fire on the Autobots.  After the Autobots successfully protect the Negavator, Optimus Prime realizes that Red Alert is severely damaged.  Red Alert’s logic and reasoning circuits were damaged and he’s become very paranoid.  Ironhide helps the Autobots look for him.  Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and Hoist track Red Alert to a city.  Red Alert is hiding from the Autobots in vehicle mode.  The three Autobots see Red Alert speeding away with his sirens on and they try to chase him.  Red Alert tries to evade the Autobots by leading them on a wild chase.  He drives through a pile of garbage, but they remain on his tail.  When they catch Red Alert, Ironhide realizes that it isn’t actually Red Alert, just a fire chief’s car that looks just like Red Alert.  Optimus, Hoist, and Ironhide continue to search the city tirelessly .  THey can’t find Red Alert.  Even though he may explode, Optimus orders the Autobots back to base so they can protect the Negavator and recharge. While inside the bunker, Ironhide tells Optimus Prime that the intruder alarm of the Negavator is going off and they go off together to investigate  Optimus Prime, Inferno, Hoist, and Ironhide intercept Red Alert as he is trying to leave the bunker with the Negavator.  They think that Starscream his holding Red Alert prisoner, but Red Alert tells them that Starscream is his partner.  The Decepticons arrive in the bunker to steal the Negavator.  Starscream shoots Red Alert with his null ray which restores his mind.  Red Alert sets the Negavator to explode and the Decepticons retreat.

Ironhide and the Autobots watch a news report from the Ark.  The report says that the Empire State Building in New York City sunk into the ground and disappeared.  The Autobots travel to Manhattan to protect it from Decepticons.  When the Autobots reach Central Park, they are ambushed by Soundwave, Rumble, and Frenzy.  Ironhide falls to the ground when Rumble and Frenzy create an earthquake with their pile drivers.  The battle is short and the Decepticons are victorious.  Optimus Prime is captured and Megatron orders the Autobots to leave New York City or they will never see Optimus again.   Megatron takes control of New York City causing the Autobots and the human inhabitants of the city to leave in a mass exodus.   While half of the Autobots are looking for Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, and Bluestreak patrol the streets of Manhattan.  Megatron has been rebuilding the city to be a fortress in his twisted image.  They see on top of the Empire State Building is Optimus Prime’s arm holding his Ion Cannon.  The Decepticons target the Ironhide and the other Autobots with Optimus’ gun and uses it to attack them.  Optimus Prime orders all of the Autobots to scatter and transform.  Optimus Prime wants to reclaim his arm, but Ironhide won’t let him do it alone.   As they run closer to the Decepticon Fortress, the automated arm of Optimus Prime continues to shoot at them.  They meet up with Ratchet and Ironhide shoots a cable from his arm.  The three Autobots climb up the tower to get Optimus’ arm.  The Seekers try to shoot them off the tower, but Ironhide and Ratchet are able to defend themselves and Optimus Prime.  Devestator catches up to Optimus and grabs him.  Ironhide and Ratchet try to save Optimus, but before they can fire, Devestator punches strikes through a wall using Optimus Prime as a club.   Ratchet and Ironhide realize they are under Megatron and Soundwave.  The two Autobots fire their blasters at the ceiling .  Megatron and Soundwave plummet through the floors of the Empire State Building.  After Optimus Prime wounds Devestator, the combiner falls to the ground.  Ironhide saves Optimus Prime by catching him.  The Decepticons are defeated, Optimus Prime is made whole, and the Autobots help restore New York City.

Ironhide and Blaster act as a security detail for Optimus Prime and a few Autobots while they watch a demonstration of an experimental drone plane.  Blaster is staying hidden inside of Ironhide’s vehicle mode in stereo mode.  Ironhide has no idea that Soundwave was also sitting inside of him in cassette player mode.  Soundwave sends Ravage to engage the Autobots, but Blaster grabs Ravage and wrestles with him inside of Ironhide.  Once Blaster kicks Ravage out of Ironhide, both Autobots transform into robot mode to tell Optimus that there are Decepticons near.  They get to Optimus just as the drone explodes.  Later, Ironhide, Powerglide, and Grapple work together to help rebuild an airport which was damaged by a Dinobot/Decepticon battle.   Ironhide lays a layer of concrete onto the foundation and Powerglide drops bricks.  They continue this process until the building is rebuilt.  Ironhide follows Optimus Prime to a power plant that the Decepticons are trying to control.  As the Decepticons are making Energon Cubes, the Autobots arrive to fight.   Jazz can’t transform into robot mode.  Ironhide kicks him and he transforms into robot mode.  Ironhide attempts to use his liquid nitrogen on a Decepticon, but his hand won’t retract and his whole arm is frozen.  The cold spreads to the rest of his body.  All of the Autobots and Decepticons are malfunctioning in some way so they stop fighting to find out what is going on.  They find out that because they have been away from Cybertron for so long, they are deprived of an element called Cybertonium.  The only place that the element exists is Cybertron. Spike and Carly go to Cybertron, recover the Dinobots, bring back Cybertonium, and the Autobots are saved.

The Decepticons attack an observatory to steal a device called the Voltronic Galaxer.  Ironhide transforms and goes with the Autobots to protect the observatory and the device from the Decepticons.  The Autobots arrive at the observatory too late, the Decepticons have already escaped with the device.

Ironhide is part of an Autobot commando team that tests Wheeljack and Chip’s new invention.  The Dominator Disks are theorized to be able to put Devestator under Autobot control.  Optimus Prime has Ironhide freeze a waterfall with his liquid nitrogen.  Optimus hopes this will get the Decepticons’ attention and Megatron will send the Constructicons to investigate.  The plan works and the Autobots attach Dominator disks to all of the Constructicons.  After Devestator falls under Autobot control, he traps all of the Decepticons in their base which is inside of a cave.  Ironhide wants to finish them off, but Optimus feels that they will be trapped forever.

Ironhide, Windcharger, and Huffer defend New York City from Decepticon created drones.  The Drones were made of stolen cars.  When the drones engage the three Autobots, they quickly transform into mindless robots and shoot lasers at them.  Blaster disables all of the drones throughout the city by jamming their control frequency.  Optimus Prime leads the Autobots to the Decepticon fortress.  He tells the Autobots not to fight the Decepticons, but to attack the fortress itself.  The battle is won by Tracks’ human friend Raoul who shorts out Megatron with spray paint.

Spike and Chip propose to Optimus Prime that the Autobots participate in a race for charity.  Ironhide encourages Optimus Prime to agree because he needs some action.  Ironhide participates in the race and he heckles Trailbreaker for being slow.  Trailbreaker reminds Ironhide that neither of them are moving that fast.  The race ends with no clear winner because the Autobots kicked up so much dust, no one could tell who won, but Ironhide definitely didn’t win.  While the Autobots were racing, Skywarp flies above them and uses a device called the Transfixitron on them.  All of the Autobots who were racing are unable to transform back into robot mode.  The Autobots learn they are trapped in vehicle mode when the Decepticons attack.  Optimus Prime commands the Autobots to attack the Decepticons while in vehicle mode.  The Decepticons subdue the Autobots by shooting out their tires and overheating their engines. Even though they can’t move, Ironhide tries to rally the Autobots to fight back.  The Autobots are captured and brought to Megatron’s ghost town.  Megatron plans on using a crushing device to destroy the Autobots.  Ironhide is brave in the face of destruction and tells Megatron to get on with it already.  Megatron chooses Ironhide to be the first Autobot to be crushed.  Optimus Prime deploys Roller to distract the Decepticons and buy Ironhide some time.  Optimus then drives into the crusher and frees Ironhide.  Wheeljack saves the Autobots with his newest invention, a grenade that negates the effect of the Transfixitron.  Once the Autobots transform into robot mode, the Constructicons merge into Devestator.  Ironhide and Optimus Prime fire on Devestator.  Ironhide deploys blasters from his hands to fight.  Devestator lifts up the two Autobots and throws them into a building.  Devestator is defeated when the Autobots use the Transfixitron on him.

The Autobots learn that Omega Supreme has been defeated.  Ironhide doesn’t believe it.   Ironhide uses Teletran 1 to figure out that that Electrum is involved.  Electrum is a substance that makes it impossible to damage a Transformer who is coated with it.  It also makes them appear like they were made of gold.   After Powerglide finds the source of the Electrum, Ironhide goes to the lagoon with the Autobots to coat himself with Electrum.  The Electrum coated Autobots fight the Electrum coated Decepticons, but neither side is able to damage the other.  During the battle, the Decepticons’ Electrum wears off and they are forced to retreat.  Unfortunately, the beautiful valley that hid the Electrum poll was destroyed in the battle.

Ironhide goes on a mission with the Autobots to a jungle valley.  They want to save Cosmos and prevent an infestation of Morphobots from spreading.  When the Autobots reach the valley, Optimus asks Warpath to clear a path.   Ironhide volunteers to help Warpath.  Ironhide tries to use chemicals to harm the Morphobots.  Ironhide fails to destroy the Morphobots.  The Autobots learn that Blaster’s music can repel the Morphobots.  Blaster plays music to create a path to Cosmos and Ironhide shoots liquid nitrogen at them to hold the Morphobots back. Once the Autobots rescue Cosmos from the Morphobots, Megatron has Dirge, Ramjet and Blitzwing fly into the valley to steal the Insecticide.  The Decepticons destroy the insecticide, but the Morphobots attack them.  Soon, the swarm of Insecticons and their clones travel to the valley.  The Morphobots eat the Insecticon clones prompting the Decepticons and Insecticons to fly away.  The Autobots send the Morphobots into space where they can’t hurt anyone or anything on Earth.

Ironhide travels with the Autobots to San Francisco to battle a mechanical alien dragon that is threatening the city.

The Decepticons take control of a Baseball Stadium to build a Space Bridge.  Ironhide and the Autobots make their way to the stadium to defend the humans.  When they arrive, they find the Decepticons are already terrorizing the humans for their own twisted fun.  Ironhide rips a light pole from the ground and slams it into Thrust.   There is a space bridge malfunction and several Autobots and Decepticons are sent into the universe.  Since Optimus Prime was one of the Autobots who was transported away by the Space Bridge, Ironhide takes temporary command of the Autobots.  He leads them back to the Ark so they can attempt to figure out where the other Autobots wound up.

Ironhide and the Autobots learn that Optimus Prime secretly went to Cybertron.  They have no idea why he went to Cybertron alone.  Ironhide Powerglide, and Inferno use the Decepticon Space Bridge to go to Cybertron to protect Optimus from whatever he plans to fight. Ironhide, Powerglide, and Inferno arrive on Cybertron just as the Decepticons are celebrating the perceived destruction of Optimus Prime.  The three Autobots can’t believe that Optimus is dead.  They lash out at the Decepticons with their weapons.  Ironhide also shoots acid from his fingers at Astrotrain, causing the wall to melt.  The Decepticons retreat from battle but the Autobots run after them.  The battle between the Autobots and Decepticons spills out into the streets.  Both sides seem to be evenly matched.  Starscream climbs on a tower and shoots Ironhide with his lasers.  Eventually, the female Autobots join the fight.  Ironhide is very happy to see his former consort, Chromia. Ironhide notices that Starscream is trying to escape.  He intercepts the smarmy Decepticon, but Chromia won’t let him fire his weapon at Starscream.  She wants the pleasure for herself.  Starscream begs for his life.  He buys himself enough time to jump off an overhang and he escapes.  Ironhide thinks that the battle has been won, but Shockwave transforms into gun mode and fires on the Autobots.  Ironhide is sent soaring into the air.  All of the Autobots are hanging onto a ledge, trying not to fall to their doom.  The battle is won when Optimus Prime arrives with Elita-1. The Earth based Autobots bid goodbye to their femaleCybertronian counterparts who refuse to move to Earth.

Ironhide and the Autobots are confined to the Ark by Optimus Prime after several Autobots go missing.  They have been captured by a big game hunter named Lord Chumley who wants to hunt Optimus Prime for his own pleasure.

Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and Spike watch Megatron and Starscream fly into the air after an underground tunnel is flooded.  The water comes to the surface and the city starts to be flooded as well.   After Trailbreaker gathers up a lot of the water with his force fields, Ironhide and Optimus Prime swim into the subway tunnel that caused the flood.  Ironhide uses liquid nitrogen to seal the pipe.  The Autobots wind up watching Megatron, Starscream, the Constructicons, Astrotrain, and Blitzwing fight for leadership of the Decepticons.  Ironhide wants to attack so they can eliminate their enemies, but Optimus Prime lets the Decepticons work out their problems with each other.

Optimus Prime organizes a mission to go to Cybertron and prevent Megatron from giving life to the Stunticons.  Ironhide travels inside of Omega Supreme’s rocket mode to Cybertron.  The Autobots reach Alpha Trion to get information about Vector Sigma.  They find that Alpha Trion was attacked by the Decepticons and they have control of Vector Sigma’s key.  Ironhide follows Optimus Prime to the lower levels of Cybertron to get to Vector Sigma before the Decepticons do.  While the Autobots are being led through the underground catacombs of Cybertron by Vector Sigma, they come across a maintenance room.  The room is filled with the bodies of deactivated Transformers as well as some space crafts.  The Autobots know they are on the right path when they are attacked by Centurion droids under Megatron’s control.  The Autobots open fire on the Centurion droids, but their weapons have no effect.  The Centurion droids continue their slow walk towards the Autobots.  One of the Centurions reaches Hoist and lifts him up into the air.  Hoist is thrown into Ironhide and the both tumble to the ground.  The Autobots are unable to stop the droids so they escape back to the maintenance room.   Hoist and Ratchet rewire dead Autobots to lead the droids off a cliff and the Autobots are saved.  When the Autobots finally enter Vector Sigma’s chamber, they are awestruck.  In his wisdom, Alpha Trion already knows that Megatron was able to grant sentience to the Stunticons.  The Autobots return again to the maintenance room and create the Aerialbots out of the derelict spacecrafts.

All of the Autobots that went to Cybertron to prevent the Decepticons from reaching Vector Sigma work together to build the Aerialbots.  Once they are complete, Optimus Prime plans to bring the mindless Aerialbots to Vector Sigma so it can breathe life into them.  After fighting their way back to the surface through another army of Centurion Droids, the Autobots and Aerialbots take Omega Supreme to Earth.  Omega Supreme explodes from an off screen battle with Shockwave (but this is never told, there was a series of scenes which were written where Omega Supreme fought Shockwave on Cybertron through out the 2 part story).  Optimus leads several Autobots to a military base to check up on the super fuel that they were protecting earlier. Blaster and the Aerialbots ride inside of his trailer.  When the soldiers see the Autobots, they open fire, thinking that they were the Stunticons who earlier raided the base.  Slingshot wants to leap into battle, but Optimus Prime doesn’t want to harm humans. Ironhide tries to remind Slingshot who the Autobots’ allies really are.   Just as Optimus brokers a tenuous peace, the Stunticons race towards the Autobots at 300 miles per hour.  Autobots are standing on a hill, the Stunticons drive towards them at full speed.  To avoid injury, the Autobots scatter and fall off the cliff.  Ironhide takes offence at the recklessness of the Stunticons.  He jumps on Dead End’s roof and tries to stop him.  Dead End drives as fast as he can towards a massive rock.  He crashes into the rock and Ironhide is knocked off of him.  Dead End’s internal force fields protected him from damage. Blaster and Ironhide walk towards Optimus Prime and Wheeljack to help them fight.  They are forced to scatter again when Breakdown tries to run them over.  The battle ends not because one force is more powerful than the other, but because Megatron wants the Stunticons to return to him.  Slingshot wants to celebrate their victory, but Ironhide tells them that the only reason the Stunticons left was because Megatron called them back.  Slingshot arrogantly tells Ironhide that he is jealous of the Aerialbots because they could handle the Stunticons.  Optimus Prime separates the two before they start to fight.  After exploring the Ark, the Aerialbots walk together into the repair bay and look down on the other Autobots because they can’t fly.  Slingshot especially looks down on Omega Supreme because he can fly, but one trip to Cybertron made him explode.  Ironhide stands up to Slingshot and again they are about to come to blows.  Ironhide is with Optimus Prime when he learns that Megatron is using the Key to Vector Sigma to transform Earth into metal.  Ironhide criticizes Optimus Prime for letting the Aerialbots leave the Autobots.  Ironhide follows Optimus Prime to Washington State to fight the Decepticons and Stunticons.  Once the Autobots arrive, Megatron sends the Stunticons to fight them.  The Stunticons start their attack in vehicle mode.  Motormaster plows into the Autobot ranks and splits the force down the middle.  The Aerialbots return to the Autobots and there is an epic battle between Superion and Menasor.  Omega Supreme joins and the Autobots win.  Silverbolt destroys the key to Vector Sigma and everything that Megatron cyberformed reverts to normal.  After the battle, Slingshot and Ironhide apologize to each other.

Ratchet performs routine maintenance on Ironhide in the Ark.  Ironhide asks Ratchet if he could perform upgrades which would allow him to match the power of the Stunticons.  Ratchet tells Ironhide that he is fine the way he is.  Soon, the Wheeljack picks up energy signatures of the Stunticons.  The Stunticons are attacking various locations and the Autobots leave their base to foil the Stunticons’ plans.  The Stunticons are captured and five Autobots disguise themselves as the Stunticons to infiltrate the Decepticons.  Ironhide, Ratchet, Hound and Wheeljack respond to the alarm when the real Stunticons break out of their cages.  The Stunticons merge into Menasor to escape.   Ironhide and the other Autobots are injured and Menasor returns to the Decepticons to expose the disguised Autobots.  Ironhide and the other Autobots are injured and Menasor returns to the Decepticons to expose the disguised Autobots.  As the Autobots are collecting themselves and prepare to go back home, Ironhide tells Optimus Prime that he altered the ruby power source of Megatron’s cannon when the Autobots had the ruby in the Ark.  That is why the cannon exploded.

When the Aerialbots return from their rescue mission, they walk into a room where Optimus Prime is meeting with Ironhide, Wheeljack, and Ratchet.  All of the Aerialbots, except Silverbolt, are unable to stop talking about the Seekers.  They are really impressed with how they fly  Slingshot defends the Decepticons for letting the hostages fall to their doom by saying that it may have been an accident.  Ironhide thinks that the Aerialbots are arrogant punks.  He doesn’t think that they understand the Decepticons because they haven’t been fighting them for millions of years.  Optimus Prime chimes in and explains that is the point.  He addresses that the Aerialbots are only several weeks old, they just don’t understand.  Teletran-1’s alarm goes off and the Autobots learn that there is danger on Cybertron.  The Autobots and Aerialbots take Omega Supreme to Cybertron to find out what the energy readings are.   The Autobots and Aerialbots transform and split up to search Cybertron.  While the Aerialbots are on their own, they try to talk to the Decepticons to learn more about them.  Silverbolt reports back to Optimus Prime what is going on.  Ironhide thinks they are traitors .Ironhide and the Autobots arrive right after the Decepticon Kronosphere is activated. .  They drive right to a war torn building to save the Aerialbots.  Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker position themselves behind a pillar and and unleash a steady stream of laser fire at the Autobots.   Ironhide remains in vehicle mode and slams into the pillar, removing the Decepticons’ point of cover.  Optimus Prime destroys the Kronosphere to prevent the Aerialbots from traveling back to the Big Bang.  Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Ironhide work together to repair the Kronosphere to return the Aerialbots to the present.  Wheeljack is able to repair the Kronosphere.  He activates the return function and in two minutes, the Aerialbots will be back.  Unfortunately for the Autobots, the Decepticons attack the compound.     Before the Autobots can expel the Decepticons, a headless Guardian Robot tears the roof off the building and attacks.  Optimus Prime, Ratchet, and Ironhide fire their weapons at the Guardian Robot, but their weapons aren’t strong enough.  Ratchet and Ironhide transform to distract the Guardian Robot so Optimus can continue his assault.  The Guardian Robot tries to smash Ironhide with his claw, but he is able to evade it.  The Aerialbots return and as Superion, and they destroy the Guardian Robot.

Perceptor creates a substance called Corrostop.  The Autobots want to use it to protect all of Earth’s man made monuments.  Ironhide helps spray the Corrostop on Lady Liberty.  After Megatron captures Perceptor to cure his Cosmic Rust, Megatron is willing to release Perceptor back to the Autobots.  Perceptor is infected with Cosmic Rust and is attached to a bomb.  Ironhide goes with the Autobots to save Perceptor.

Ironhide goes on a rescue mission to a power plant with the Autobots.  They want to save Cliffjumper and Jazz who were captured.

While on monitor duty, Gears picks up a distress call from a school.  Optimus Prime sends Ironhide, Bumblebee, and Gears to investigate.  When the three Autobots get to the school, they immediately transform into robot mode.   Without knowing what the problem is, the Autobots follow Ironhide into the school.  They find an out of control robot named BOT trashing the school cafeteria.    BOT tosses a tray of corn at the Autobots and knocks them down.  Ironhide sprays a deluge of liquid lead at BOT. BOT jumps in the air and hangs off of a light fixture to avoid damage.  The liquid lead pools up at Ironhide’s feet and makes him fall through the floor.  BOT runs out of the cafeteria and makes a barricade which slows down the Autobots.  BOT jumps out a window.  One of the teenagers leads the Autobots out of the cafeteria outside the school.  BOT runs into a building and into an elevator.  The Autobots continue their pursuit.  Ironhide tells the kids to stay outside where it is safe.  Ironhide stops the elevator and the Autobots climb 30 floors up to intercept BOT.  The kids enter the building and reactivate the elevator.  As the three Autobots continue climbing the stairs, they encounter Swindle.  Swindle defeats the Autobots and escapes with the Combaticon personality component which the kids unknowingly installed into BOT.  The kids who sent the distress call earlier learn that Megatron is going to try to destroy the Autobot base.  They go to the Ark and tell Optimus what they learned.  Optimus realizes that they need Defensor to stop Bruticus.  Ironhide contacts the Protectobots.

Ironhide was killed in the year 2005 when the Decepticons raided an Autobot shuttle on it's way to Earth. Ironhide was executed by Megatron.

Ironhide did not have a significant role aside for background filler in the Marvel Comics.

IDW Transformers

Ironhide is a tough, no nonsense soldier, even as the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons started.

In Ironhide’s first chronological appearance in the IDW-verse, he is on patrol of Torus-City Nyon (aka The Rust Narrows) with Orion Pax, Bumblebee, Prowl, and Hound.  Ironhide complains that he doesn’t like sneaking around.   Orion, Ironhide, and Prowl enter a building where Swindle is selling phase charges to a nameless Decepticon.  The Decepticon attacks the Autobots and from outside, Bumblebee acts as a sniper and shoots the Decepticon in the head.

After the mission, Bumblebee competes with Ironhide in a sharpshooting competition.  Bumblebee out shoots Ironhide 10:1.  Orion Pax enters and tells the two Autobots to prepare for a mission.  Almost immediately, Ironhide is commanded by Orion Pax to help him track down Soundwave.  Ironhide is excited to see more action.  The Autobots track Soundwave to the factory district.  They corner him and Soundwave ejects Ravage to help him fight.   Ravage slashes Bumblebee and Hound with his claws.  Both Autobots are disabled.  Soundwave unleashes Rumble who uses his pile drivers to create a tremor.  The tremor collapses a building on top of Ironhide and Prowl.

Later that day, Prowl helps extract Orion Pax and Bumblebee from Megatron’s citadel.  Ironhide crashes through the wall to save his friend Bumblebee.  The Autobots escape inside of Sky Lynx.

Zeta Prime orders Orion Pax, Prowl, Bumblebee, Silverbolt, Hound, and Ironhide to arrest Hot Rod.  Hot Rod is suspected to be a terrorist who uses bombs to create chaos.  Orion and his team go back to Nyon to search for Hot Rod. Prowl tells Orion that their target (Hot Rod) is in the Acropolex.  Ironhide thinks it is a trap.   As a team, the Autobots enter the Acropolex.  Hot Rod lures the Autobots into a room filled with Energon tanks.  He intentionally chose that room because he knows that the Autobots won’t be able to fire their weapons without potentially harming themselves.    Hot Rod shows the Autobot team the masses of Nyon who had their Energon drained by Zeta Prime.

Ironhide continues to be a valuable soldier.  When Blurr is in danger, Ironhide risks his safety to save the speedster Autobot.   When Orion Pax’s team of Autobots reach the building, Hot Rod ambushes them.  Ironhide retaliates by firing a bazooka at Hot Rod.  He misses.   Moments later, the Autobots follow and they see statues of the Knights of Cybertron.   Ironhide sees an inscription on the floor which says “Til All Are One”.  Hound realizes that the room is rigged with plasma mines.

Ironhide and the Autobots decide to protect Hot Rod and the refugees from Zeta Prime and his attack.   Orion and the Autobots prepare to fight the Omega Sentinels.  They know that they can’t defeat the legions of Sentinels, but they can slow them down.  Orion gives everyone a task. Ironhide is to use the Cyclone Launcher.   Despite their best efforts, the Autobots are unable to even scratch the Sentinels.   Hot Rod prepared for this, despite not wanting to, he detonates the city.

The Autobots are taken to Megatron’s base for repairs.  Ironhide almost gets into a fight with the Decepticons.  Shockwave prevents the conflict.  After Orion Pax and his small team of Autobots ally themselves with the Decepticons to overthrow Zeta Prime, Ironhide is shown attacking the Cybertronian Senate.  Even though his allies are Decepticons, they defer to Ironhide’s command.  Zeta Prime is defeated, but Megatron betrays Orion Pax.  Ironhide and the Autobots are sent into hiding after Megatron takes control of Cybertron.

The Autobots are found by Blitzwing and several other Decepticons.  The Autobot rebels are forced to surrender.  Bumblebee and Ironhide find what was once Orion Pax, but is now Optimus Prime.  They quickly realize their leader has been changed.

Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Dai Atlas, Bumblebee, Prowl, and Ironhide travel inside of Sky Lynx to a refinery.  They are responding to an alarm that went off.  They find the Dinobots fighting Scorponok and the Decepticons.

Trypticon has risen from under Cybertron.  Optimus rallies his troops.  Ironhide is organizing a strike team.  Sunstreaker and several other speedsters lead Trypticon into an ambush.  Ironhide and his team use stationary cannons to attack Trypticon.  The Autobots think they have defeated Trypticon, but that only lasts momentarily.  Flying technorganic animals emerge from Trypticon and attack the Autobots.  Ratchet encountered them earlier and thought that they were native to the caves under Cybertron.  In fact, Trypticon manufactured them.  Trypticon reawakens and starts blasting buildings with his mouth cannon.  Optimus Prime challenges Trypticon.  Ironhide warns Optimus to stay away from Trypticon.

Ironhide, Bumblebee, and Ultra Magnus find the damaged Optimus Prime.  They want to get him repaired, and Ultra Magnus puts the matrix back inside of Optimus Prime.  Bumblebee tells everyone that Trypticon is heading towards Metroplex.

Grimlock destroys Trypticon’s power core and Trypticon falls to the ground, lifeless.  Ultra Magnus wants to arrest Megatron, but the rest of the Decepticons come to support their leader.  Megatron tells the Autobots to leave the city and leave Trypticon for him.  The Autobots leave because they are outnumbered and Trypticon is not going to function without the feral liquid Energon.

Optimus Prime is repaired and takes a short sabbatical from leading the Autobots.  He goes on a small vacation with Ironhide to the Grav-Haraan glacier.  The two Autobots climb one of the glaciers.   Ironhide loses his footing and is about to fall, before he can fall, Optimus Prime grabs him. Optimus and Ironhide reach the apex of the glacier and pick up a strong Energon signature nearby.  They take out their weapons to investigate.

Optimus and Ironhide travel on foot through the arctic terrain.  They realize that the Energon signature is not of a structure because it is moving slowly.  The Energon signature is from a large Transformer.  As they get closer they start to recognize the Transformer’s shape, it is the Omega Sentinel called Omega Supreme.  Ironhide and Optimus find out that Omega Supreme is waiting for a Prime to relieve him.  Optimus explains that he is the current Prime.  Omega Supreme pledges his loyalty to Optimus and transforms into rocket mode so he can take Ironhide and Optimus back to the Autobots.

Optimus sneaks through the alleyway but is shot in the back by Soundwave.  Soundwave ejects Rumble (who is black in this issue) and tells him to rip out Optimus Prime’s eyes.  Optimus is saved when Ironhide arrives.  Ironhide drives over Ravage, slams into Soundwave, and punches Rumble.

Optimus and Ironhide observe the Decepticon convoy.  Ramjet is complaining that he could be more useful if he was used for air support.  Optimus hits Ramjet with the butt of his rifle.  The Constructicons and Octane expect Optimus to surrender since he is outnumbered. Optimus says that he is hoping the Decepticons will surrender.   Ironhide is above them with Soundwave’s rifle pointed at the Decepticons.  Ironhide is under orders to shoot the 75 tons of Energon that the Decepticons are transporting.  If the Energon explodes, it will kill all of the Decepticons and Optimus Prime.  For a moment, the Decepticons call his bluff, but then they surrender.   That night, the Autobots celebrate their victory.  Prowl commends Optimus Prime for capturing 5 Decepticons without firing a single shot.  Optimus says he couldn’t have done it without his soldiers.  Prowl asks Optimus if he is going to address the troops.  Optimus wants his soldiers to celebrate the night.  Optimus goes outside and sees Kup.  Kup suggests that Optimus addresses the troops.  Optimus feels that he isn’t a good enough public speaker to do it.  Ironhide agrees with Optimus.  Kup tells Optimus that he is a Prime now and he is more than just a soldier.  He is a leader.  Optimus predicts that the war is going to last for a lot longer than everyone expects.  Kup asks why and Optimus tells him that they aren’t just fighting an army, they are fighting a philosophy and they can’t defeat that.  Ironhide asks Optimus Prime if he thinks that they can’t win.  Optimus Prime replies that an idea can’t be defeated, but it can be changed.  Optimus goes back into the building, but Ironhide remains talking to Kup.  Ironhide tells Kup that Optimus Prime is the finest soldier he ever met and he loves him, but he doesn’t always understand him.  Kup agrees.  Ironhide goes back to the party and drinks Energon.  He sees an Autobot who he isn’t familiar with and asks Bluestreak if he knows him.  Bluestreak doesn’t know the mystery Autobot.  The mystery Autobot takes out a gun and fires at Optimus Prime.  Ironhide dives in the way and gets shot.

Millions of years later, Ironhide winds up on Earth.  Prowl, Ironhide, and Sunstreaker protect Ratchet, and his new human friends from Thundercracker.  They deploy weapons in vehicle mode and fire at the Decepticon Jet.  After Thundercracker is defeated, all of the Autobots transform.  They arrest Ratchet for disobeying orders.

In the Ark-19, Ironhide goes behind Prowl’s back and contacts Optimus Prime for help.

Ironhide is part of an Autobot team sent to a Decepticon base to engage them.  Bumblebee scouts ahead and tells the Autobots that the coast looks clear.   Prowl tells all of the Autobots that they need to contain the Decepticons before the humans know that they are on Earth.  Ironhide and the Autobots arrive at the Decepticon base in time to save Bumblebee from Runabout. They also observe Megatron battle Starscream.   The Autobots watch Megatron defeat Starscream.  None of the Autobots fight the rest of the day.  They transform back into vehicle mode and go back to the Ark-19.  They realize they need their “heavy hitters”.

Prowl has Sunstreaker and Ironhide bring the humans home.   Ironhide and Sunstreaker transform to take the humans home.    Jimmy and Verity ride inside of Ironhide.  Sunstreaker and Ironhide emerge from Lake Michigan, totally unaware that they are being watched by a group called The Machination.  On the highway, Sunstreaker speeds ahead of Ironhide.  Ironhide reminds Sunstreaker that the humans have speed limits.  The two Autobots and their human passengers are totally unaware that The Machination is following them in a few trucks and an RV.  The Machination continues to stalk the two Autobots and the humans.  They send out two car like drones to engage the Autobots.  The drones move quickly and cause a few cars to get into an accident.  The drones fire missiles at Innocent cars, creating a bottleneck which impedes the Autobots.  Jimmy tells Ironhide that they have to help.  Ironhide has to follow orders and not transform.  The Machination RV lets out a cloud of smoke which jams the Autobots’ communications.  A car rear ends Ironhide, causing Ironhide to rear end another car.  Several Machination soldiers exit the RV with sophisticated weapons.  Ironhide drives over a few landmines and he is incapacitated. Before Sunstreaker can transform, a Machination soldier shoots him with a disc which overloads him.  Sunstreaker explodes with Hunter inside.

Ironhide contacts the Ark-19 and tells the Autobots that he and Sunstreaker were attacked.  It looks like Sunstreaker was destroyed.  Optimus Prime, Jazz, and Wheeljack travel in vehicle mode to rendezvous with Ironhide.  Ironhide tells the traveling Autobots that Sunstreaker’s remains are in a police station in Springfield.  Optimus Prime sends Jazz and Wheeljack to recover the remains.  Ironhide tells the Autobots that Jimmy and Verity are upset and Verity has locked herself in a bathroom.  Optimus Prime orders Ironhide to bring Jimmy and Verity back to the Ark-19 so they will be safe. Jimmy asks Ironhide if he knows who just attacked them.  They know it wasn’t Decepticons.  Ironhide tells the two humans that Decepticons have technology to make facsimiles, fake humans under Decepticon control.  They are always based on real people who the Decepticons killed covertly.  The Autobots learn that the remains they recovered weren’t actually Sunstreaker.  Ironhide tells Jimmy and Verity that there is a chance that Hunter and Sunstreaker are still alive.

Optimus feels the need to call for reinforcements.  Prowl is insulted, but Optimus reaffirms him that it is not a reflection of his command skills.  Ironhide wants to look for Sunstreaker personally, but Optimus Prime tells him that Ironhide is needed with more important tasks.  After Optimus leaves the room, Prowl tells Ironhide that they need to talk.   Verity, Jimmy, and Ratchet narrow down the possible leads and realize they need to travel to get to the place that ordered the metal.  Ironhide won’t let them go unless he comes along.

Ironhide, Ratchet, Jimmy, and Verity go to Fort Wayne Indiana to investigate a lead on the ultra light metal.  They wind up at an auto body store.  Everyone realizes that the store has way too much security for a regular store.  Ironhide detects a holomatter detector, so the Autobots can’t use their digital avatars without being detected.  Ratchet is going to use a cryogenic weapon to disable the pressure plates and security system.  Verity and Jimmy volunteer to go in, but the Autobots don’t want their human friends to be in a dangerous situation.  Ironhide knows he will regret it, but he lets Verity and Jimmy break into the store.  Ratchet and Ironhide are anxious waiting outside the auto body store.  They haven’t heard from Verity or Jimmy in almost 10 minutes.  Ironhide decides to take matters into his own “hands” and drives into the store.  Ironhide has to use his digital avatar and Ratchet tells him to hurry up.  Ratchet intercepts a police call and tells Ironhide that the police will be there soon.  Ironhide finds Jimmy and Verity unconscious and there is a bomb that has been activated.

Ratchet remains in vehicle mode, but uses his tools to get to Ironhide, Verity, and Jimmy.  He melts a hole in the floor which leads to the secret room.  Ratchet picks up on the police band that police are coming.  Ratchet tells Ironhide to get out of there, but he needs to be close to his digital avatar to get Jimmy and Verity to safety.  There is under 2 minutes left on the bomb’s timer.  Ratchet successfully burns a hole into the room where Jimmy, Verity, and Ironhide’s avatar are trapped.  Ironhide picks up the two humans and makes his avatar grow to lift them to Ratchet’s digital avatar.  Ratchet and Ironhide escape just as the building explodes.  Of course, the police arrive at that exact moment.

The Autobots find that Ironhide is in a salvage yard.  Hot Rod and Wheeljack rush to save him before he is scrapped.

Tracks tells a story about his first mission and how Jazz saved him.  Ironhide and Bluestreak wind up saving both of them after Jazz defeats the Predacons.

On Cybertron, Prowl and Ironhide get into an argument about a possible traitor in the Autobot ranks.  Prowl says that the defector could be anyone, even Ironhide.  Ironhide is furious and punches Prowl in the face.  Jazz breaks up the fight before it can continue.  Jazz goes to a balcony where Ironhide is standing.  Jazz comments that stargazing isn’t something Ironhide normally does.  Ironhide feels overwhelmed about the war.  It started out as a city, then a planet, now it is multiple planets.  Ironhide knows Jazz is hiding something from him.  Ironhide feels defeated because the Decepticons are still thriving.  Cliffjumper approaches Ironhide to tell him that he picked up a signal from Wheeljack and that he needs help.  Sunstreaker wants to join, but Ironhide want Sunstreaker to keep watch over Mirage.

Once Hot Rod finds out that the Autobots on Cybertron are allies, Kup reveals the Wreckers to them.

Sunstreaker goes to Ironhide to complain about Sideswipe.  Sunstreaker antagonizes Ironhide to be angry at Mirage.  Ironhide singles out Mirage and beats him down. Mirage refuses to fight back.  Mirage says that he isn’t a traitor but Ironhide doesn’t believe him and continues beating him.

After Ironhide assaulted Mirage, Kup takes him aside.  Kup is angry that Ironhide attacked his comrade without provocation.  Ironhide tells Kup that Mirage was a traitor.  Kup knows that Mirage isn’t the traitor, but won’t say who is.  Kup still wants a friendship with Ironhide.  He is impressed that Ironhide never took a command position so he could remain a soldier.  The Insecticon swarm starts it’s attack on the Autobots.    The Autobots flee from the Insecticon horde.    Kup tells everyone to stay close and he has something planned.  Before the battle, Kup and Perceptor hid a series of explosives.  At Kup’s command, Perceptor takes out two pistols and shoots the explosives, creating enough debris for the Autobots to get away. Kup tells everyone to keep the speed up because they didn’t stop the swarm, they just slowed it down.  Perceptor is hit in the neck with a dart by one of the Insecticon swarm.  Kup tells them to continue onto a bridge where there are more explosives ..  Ironhide wonders where Sunstreaker is. Sunstreaker is standing on a bridge on Cybertron alone.  Ironhide approaches in vehicle mode and asks Sunstreaker what he is doing.  .  Ironhide asks Sunstreaker if he is trying to get himself killed.  Sunstreaker says yes.  Sunstreaker reveals that he is the traitor.  He wanted to ally himself with Starscream to defeat Megatron, but he didn’t expect Optimus to get hurt  Sunstreaker promised Earth to Starscream so the Autobots could retake Cybertron.  He also wanted the Decepticons to kill as many humans as possible in retribution for what was done to him by the humans.  Suddenly Ironhide and Sunstreaker are shot with Insecticon darts.  Sunstreaker tells Ironhide to try to escape.  Drift shows up to save them.  Sunstreaker stays behind to activate explosives and Ironhide rides on top of Drift who is in vehicle mode.  Sunstreaker activates the explosives successfully.  While being repaired, Drift visits with Ironhide.  Drift tells Ironhide that it isn’t all Sunstreaker’s fault.  Drift tells him that the war is changing everyone.  Ironhide asks Drift if he thinks there is another traitor.  Drift says there’s more that they don’t know than what they do know.

Ironhide is repaired.  The Autobots are loading a large weapon.  Ironhide approaches Mirage to talk.  He wants to apologize to Mirage.  Mirage turns around and Ironhide sees that his Autobot emblem is gone.  Mirage reminds Ironhide that he was told he didn’t deserve to wear the Autobot emblem anymore and to stay out of his way.

The Autobots prepare to make a final stand against the Insecticon swarm.   Optimus Prime talks to Ironhide.  Ironhide wonders why the Autobot leadership never told the rest of the Autobots that the Matrix was in Decepticon hands.  Ironhide tells Optimus that he is the greatest Prime he ever served with.  Optimus remembers that when they first met, Ironhide hated him.  Ironhide and Optimus rejoin the other Autobots.  T  As the Insecticon swarm approaches, Roadbuster fires the massive cannon at them.  The battle continues as the Autobots fight to survive. Ironhide is pinned to the ground by an Insecticon, but Mirage saves him.  Mirage tells Ironhide to get to safety, but Ironhide continues to fight.   The Autobots are about to lose, but they are saved by Omega Supreme.  Omega Supreme stomps a lot of Insecticons and then fires his blaster at them.  Optimus asks how Omega Supreme knew they needed help.  Hot Rod tells Optimus Prime that he signaled Omega.  Omega Supreme transforms into rocket mode and the Autobots escape back to Earth.

After Optimus Prime defeats Megatron, the Decepticons escape with Megatron in their possession.

Ironhide is tired of fighting.  He is worn out and wants to stop, but he is too valuable to the Autobots.  Optimus Prime tells his old friend that no matter what he chooses, he will respect that choice.  Optimus also feels a little overwhelmed because the war is changing more than he expected it would.  Ironhide tells Optimus Prime that he doesn’t trust his own judgement.  Optimus connects that statement with the fact that Ironhide beat the crap out of Mirage when he wrongly thought that Mirage was a traitor.  The two friends reminisce about their first meeting when Optimus Prime was first a prime (this doesn’t fit in because according to previous story lines, Ironhide was part of Orion Pax’s unit, so he knew Optimus before he was a Prime).  At first, Ironhide didn’t believe Optimus Prime would be a good Prime.  Back in the present, the two friends share a drink of Energon together.  For the first time in IDW, we see that Optimus can retract his face mask to expose his true mouth.  They start talking about the past again and when they fought Trypticon.  Back in the present, Optimus Prime reveals that he wouldn’t have been a successful Prime without Ironhide’s help and guidance.  Optimus tells Ironhide that if he left the Autobots, he would be missed.  Ironhide decides to stay.

The Autobots remain on Earth after the Decepticons are defeated.  Two years later, the Autobots are in hiding because Skywatch is tracking them.  Hot Rod disrespects Optimus Prime and Ironhide chastises him.  Ironhide goes on a covert mission led by Hot Rod.  They go to a Skywatch facility to recover their captive friends.  The mission is a failure despite the fact that they rescued Prowl.  Skywatch fights the Autobot team with all of their weapons. Ironhide is shot in the torso by a Skywatch cannon.  He seems to go offline back at the Autobot base.

Ironhide wakes up on Cybertron, not knowing what happened to him.

Ironhide walks through the Cybertronian city with no memory of how he got there.  All he remembers is his time on Cybertron before going to Earth.  He sees the raceway where he was a security guard before becoming part of the Autobot military.  Nothing in the city has power except for him.  He continues to remember his life before the war.  Drag Strip was a famous racer on Cybertron, ,and Ironhide held the crowd back from bothering him.  When Outback tries to shoot Drag Strip, Ironhide disarms the assassin.  Outback says that Drag Strip works for Megatron, but Ironhide has no idea who Megatron is.  Back in the present, Ironhide realizes that there is no atmosphere on Cybertron anymore and there are massive amounts of radiation.  Ironhide hears a sound and is hopeful that he isn’t alone on the planet.  Ironhide discovers a lone, wild Insecticon in the abandoned city.  The Insecticon tackles him.  While Ironhide is pinned to the ground, the Insecticon drools acid on Ironhide’s arm.  Ironhide has no idea what the Insecticon is.  Ironhide kicks the creature off of him and shoots it in the head.  Another wild Insecticon attacks Ironhide from behind.  Ironhide beats it to death. Ironhide is scared and transforms into vehicle mode to explore and learn what is going on.  Ironhide encounters a drone called Scamper.  Scamper repeats over and over that he wants Ironhide to come with him.  Scamper transforms and Ironhide follows.

Scamper knows one word “follow”.  Ironhide follows Scamper to an underground bunker.  As Ironhide goes inside, he sees Alpha Trion.  Ironhide immediately asks who Alpha Trion is.  Alpha Trion is insulted that Ironhide doesn’t know who he is.  Ironhide asks what he wants and Alpha Trion tells Ironhide that he brought him back to life.  Ironhide asks where everyone is, Alpha Trion says that the planet has been evacuated.  Alpha Trion explains that is cape protects him from being located.  Ironhide is confused and grabs Alpha Trion.  Alpha Trion tells him to sit and Ironhide is unable to resist.  A computer in Alpha Trion’s bunker relays that there is a Transformer signal on the planet.  Ironhide wants to investigate.  Ironhide says he recognizes the signature and asks Alpha Trion why he didn’t locate the transformer.  Ironhide leaves the bunker and Scamper follows him.  Ironhide follows the trail and sees who he is looking for.  Scamper just stands there and doesn’t help.  Ironhide climbs down to the ground and sees a swarm of wild Insecticons.  He swats them away and finds Sunstreaker.  Sunstreaker is very damaged and Ironhide wants to bring him to Alpha Trion for repairs.  Sunstreaker will only say that he is sorry.  Ironhide has no idea what Sunstreaker is talking about.  Sunstreaker says that he couldn’t forgive what the humans did to him.  Ironhide asks what a human is.  The Insecticon swarm sees Ironhide and goes to attack him.  He transforms into vehicle mode and takes Sunstreaker away.  The Swarm tries to swallow Ironhide.  Ironhide drives aggressively to shake them off.  Ironhide makes it back to Alpha Trion with Sunstreaker.  When Sunstreaker sees Alpha Trion he asks if he is being judged.  Alpha Trion makes Sunstreaker go to sleep.  Ironhide asks what Alpha Trion wants with him.  Alpha Trion explains that he brought Ironhide back to life, but his memories of the last 4 million years (when he got shot protecting Optimus Prime) have been deleted.  Ironhide has been dead for a year, and it took that time for Alpha Trion to bring him back to life.  Alpha Trion wants to restore Cybertron, but he needs Ironhide to destroy the Insecticon Swarm.

For hours, Ironhide kills many of the Insecticon Swarm.  One of the swarm cuts his gun with it’s claws.  Ironhide resorts to using his bare hands.  Ironhide uses his other gun and creates an explosion which kills many Insecticons.  Ironhide sees an Autobot shuttle and goes to investigate.  When he gets inside, he sees that it is filled with Insecticons.  Ironhide attacks them and turns on the ship with one of the Insecticons’ heads.  Ironhide uses the shuttles weapons to cut a large hole in the ranks of the Insecticons.  The swarm converges on the shuttle and rips a hole in it’s hull.  Ironhide sets the shuttle to self destruct and ejects out of the ship.  The Insecticons attack Ironhide again.  He rips one of the swarm’s arms off and uses it like a club.  One of the Insecticons bites Ironhide’s arm and he kicks it away.  Ironhide contacts Alpha Trion for advice.  Alpha Trion asks how many Insecticons are left.  Ironhide says about 200.  The city starts to transform and it is revealed to be Metroplex.  Metroplex saves Ironhide by smashing the swarm with his hand.  Alpha Trion enters the battlefield and Ironhide asks what that was.  Alpha Trion explains that Metroplex is his guardian. Ironhide asks why Metroplex couldn’t just have killed all of the Insecticons himself.  Alpha Trion explains that the Swarm would’ve gotten inside of Metroplex and killed him from the inside.  Sunstreaker emerges from Alpha Trion’s bunker fully repaired.  Ironhide asks Alpha Trion what the plan is now.  Alpha Trion is going to leave with Sunstreaker but Ironhide has to stay on Cybertron to kill the last remnants of Insecticons.  Ironhide is frustrated and punches Alpha Trion. Alpha Trion gets up and tells Ironhide that he is a warrior and he needs to act like one.  Sunstreaker wants to stay with Ironhide.  Partially to atone for his sins.  Alpha Trion gets inside of Metroplex and flies away.  Sunstreaker is apprehensive to completely fill in Ironhide’s memory

Ironhide bursts into Rodimus and Wheelie’s ship with guns drawn assuming they are Decepticons.  Rodimus is shocked to see Ironhide because he thought Ironhide was dead.  Ironhide gives Rodimus a big hug.  Rodimus then sees Sunstreaker, who he also thought was dead.  Rodimus thinks he died and is in the afterlife.   Ironhide and Sunstreaker are shocked to see Wheelie, who has been missing for a very long time.  Rodimus points at Sunstreaker and asks what he has on a leash.  Sunstreaker domesticated one of the Insecticon swarm and named him Bob.  Garnak doesn’t know that Rodimus and Wheelie are friends with Ironhide and Sunstreaker, so he opens fire on Ironhide.  The attack does no damage to Ironhide.  Rodimus wants to find out what happened to Ironhide, but Sunstreaker doesn’t want him telling Ironhide that he died before.  Rodimus wants to look outside at Cybertron, and Wheelie stays inside with Ironhide and Sunstreaker.   The Autobots are able to escape before the Sweeps reach them.  They go to Earth

The Autobots gather and see that Rodimus is back.  Rodimus is wearing the Matrix around his neck again.  Ironhide also returned to Earth with Sunstreaker and Wheelie.  Ironhide is happy to be on Earth for the “first” time.  Ironhide says that Earth smells weird.  Optimus Prime tells the Autobots that Cybertron is habitable again, but Galvatron is out there forming an army.  Optimus plans to go back to Cybertron inside of Omega Supreme and tells the Autobots that he will take whoever wants to go with him.  All of the Autobots aside for Bumblebee plan to go back to Cybertron.  Ironhide knows that some of the Autobots don’t believe that he is actually alive again.  Bumblebee says that if Optimus Prime trusts him, he will as well.

Ironhide goes to Optimus Prime.  Optimus tells Ironhide that he still doesn’t understand why Megatron surrendered.  Ironhide suggests that Optimus speaks to Megatron directly.  Optimus has been putting off doing that, but he knows that he must.  After Optimus speaks to Megatron, he gathers the Autobots.  Optimus knows that they have to try Megatron for his crimes, but he doesn’t know how Megatron can get a fair trial.  Ultra Magnus suggests that they have Tyrest be the arbiter.  Everyone thinks that Tyrest is dead, but Magnus says he isn’t.  Rodimus reveals that he was listening in on Optimus Prime’s conversation with Megatron.  Optimus forces all of the Autobots out of the room in anger.

Outside of Megatron’s cell, Ironhide approaches Optimus Prime.  He tells Optimus not to let Megatron get under his skin.  Optimus tells Ironhide that he is glad that he is back and appreciates that he is young again.  Ironhide doesn’t feel young again though.  The Autobots work at bonding their unit whole again on the trip back to Cybertron.  The recent times have really divided the Autobots, but they want to all be friends again.  Ironhide tells war stories and Cliffjumper is thoroughly entertained by them.  Sunstreaker still feels like an outside and is guilty for the things he has done.  He seems to have a hard time integrating back into the fold, but he does his best.  Ironhide tells a story about Alpha Trion and Cliffjumper asks Ironhide how he knew it was really Alpha Trion.  Cliffjumper claims that it may have been Bludgeon in disguise.  Ironhide tells Cliffjumper that is the stupidest thing he ever heard.  When the Autobots land on Cybertron, Optimus Prime splits them up.  Optimus has Drift and Rodimus go with him.  Optimus Prime also decides to take Sunstreaker and Ironhide since they have spent the most time on Cybertron in recent times.  Optimus Prime has Cliffjumper stay behind to organize the landing party of reinforcements.  Optimus Prime wants Omega Supreme to stay in orbit and not to fight unless he is needed.  Optimus Prime tells the Autobots that Omega Supreme is their only way home.  Ironhide comments that Cybertron is their home. The Autobots meet with Galvatron.    Ironhide doesn’t trust Galvatron at all.  Optimus declines the alliance, but tells Galvatron that he doesn’t want to fight.  Galvatron points his cannon at Optimus and tells him that if the Autobots aren’t going to ally themselves with him, they will be destroyed.  Before Galvatron can fire, Ironhide tackles him.  Galvatron orders the Sweeps to attack the Autobots.   The Sweeps attack the Autobots in force.  Optimus Prime opens fire and Ironhide follows his lead. Cyclonus strafes the battlefield in jet mode.  Galvatron grabs Cyclonus and escapes.   After the battle, Optimus gathers the Autobots.  He tells them that he doesn’t trust Galvatron   The next thing the Autobots see is the Kimia Outpost in Cybertron’s orbit.

As the Kimia Outpost arrives in Cybertron’s orbit, it deploys its main cannon to attack the surface.  All of the Autobots dive to cover.  Op Optimus Prime rallies the ground troops for different tasks.   Optimus Prime has Ironhide unload Omega Supreme.  Ironhide is very happy to help.

Optimus Prime, Drift, Rodimus, and Ironhide maintain their pursuit of Galvatron and his forces.  Optimus’ team knows that the Decepticons have joined the fight (to help the Autobots against Galvatron).  Optimus, Drift, Rodimus, and Ironhide wind up at the crater which was created when the Kimia Outpost fired on Cybertron.  There is now a massive hole on Cybertron which digs deep into the center of the planet.  Optimus knows that Galvatron is under the surface of Cybertron.  Rodimus asks how, and Optimus Prime explains that the Matrix is connected to Galvatron somehow and the Matrix is guiding Optimus to him. Alone, Optimus climbs into the hole.  Optimus Prime’s team trusts Optimus and they follow him.  Almost right away, they encounter Galvatron.  The Autobots train their weapons on Galvatron.  Galvatron starts ranting that “It is almost here!”  All of Galvatron’s forces and the Decepticons merge into the Deceptigod known as D-Void.  Even Drift falls under the trance because he was once a Decepticon.  Drift uses his sword to slice Ironhide’s gun.  Drift gains a moment of clarity and impales himself with his sword.  Rodimus and Ironhide rush to his side.

Under Cybertron’s surface, Optimus Prime and his group are trying to come up with a plan.  Rodimus is tending to Drift, who is clinging to life.  Optimus Prime sends Ironhide back to the surface to get Drift help.  Optimus Prime uses the Matrix to destroy the Heart of Darkness.  The Autobots have won, but the Matrix has fused into a ball of metal that is now inert.

Ironhide was a powerful warrior. He has exhibited the ability to fly with a jetpack. He has a laser in his trunk in van mode. He can also emit a variety of liquids from his hands that can be used for combat or repairs. In one episode, he was able to deploy a drill from his wrist. In another episode, he was able to fire a laser from one of his fingers.
