Perfect Effect Jinrai/Optimus Cab Toy Review

Class- 3P (between a large deluxe and a small voyager)

Since I was a kid, Powermaster Optimus Prime was my favorite Optimus Prime figure. I grew up with the Marvel books and those had Optimus as Powermaster Optimus Prime WAY more than they had him pre-powermaster. The original Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime was a heavy retool of Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus. It's a good figure, but it had some issues that I really disliked (Specifically the hands). When there was a retool of Titans Return Powermaster Optimus Prime into Super Ginrai(and for the US Magnus Prime, same exact figure for both btw) there was a GLARING problem. There was no smaller Optimus which combined with the trailer that was also a cab. So I skipped getting the Super Ginrai figure (Oh, if you don't know who Ginrai is, click here). So when I learned of the existance of the Jinrai cab, I had to get it along with every other part of the set.

Bot Mode-

This isn't going to be one of those reviews which I build up to the conclusion. I'm just going to say it now, until I got Earthrise Optimus Prime, this not only was my favorite Optimus Prime figure, but it was my favorite figure (well the set as a whole with everything). This figure is exactly what you expect a really well made Optimus Prime would look like. Albeit he is just a hair too small, but because Perfect Effect had to make a cab which fit in with a product that isn't theirs, I really don't count that as a bad thing. From top to bottom... Jinrai's head is blue and is Optimus Prime's face. Blue eyes, mask, helmet. His arms are blue and the hands are 5mm and removable. They can be switched with open hands so he can be more expressive for display. His torso is red with the blue windows in his chest and a silver grill for abs. His arms are blue his lower legs are blue, his crotch is white with yellow details and his upper legs are gray. He has two smokestacks in his chest which aren't exactly screen accurate for either Powermaster Optimus Prime or Ginrai, but I actually like it so he has more of his own identity from other Optimus Prime figures in my collection. His arms have 5mm hands. The articulation is really good. The head can turn and look up and down. THe arms can move up and down and in and out. Great bend in the elbows. Waist Swivel, because his hands are removable you can also turn the wrists for more poses. Natural articulation of the legs toe bend. Oh yeah, he has AB CRUNCH! Aside for the size (which I totally excuse since they had to work with an existing product) the plastic is only about 80% as good as other Perfect Effect figures and as HasTak figures. It hasn't happened to me, but I've heard cases of the smokestacks snaping off or him breaking if you drop him too far. This is not an issue for me because I actually just keep him in Super Mode with the trailer. Aside for the issue with the plastic, it really is a good figure.

Being a 3P figure, Jinrai has a more complex transformation than a regular Generations figure, but it isn't so hard where it isn't fun. A little more complex than a Generations, but less complex than a Studio Series transformation. I advise that you watch a review on Youtube for the first time (personally I suggest Emgo316), not because the figure is too hard to transform or because the instructions aren't good. Emgo316 and a few others will go into more detail on which parts to be gentle with while transforming. For complexity, I rate the transformation a 7.25 out of 10. For fun, I rate it 8.25 out of 10. It is VERY satisfying.

Vehicle Mode-

I love Jinrai's vehicle mode. It is small, compact, and absolutely perfect. Again, I think that if Perfect Effect was doing a trailer that went along with Jinrai instead of adding to the Hasbro version, it would've been a bit bigger. Displaying with pre-Siege Generations figures in vehicle mode, he just a hair too small in vehicle mode. Jinrai is a very good representation of a well engineered cab for Optimus Prime. Red truck with silver and blue. Light blue windows. It tabs together VERY well and rolls well.

Jinrai comes with a blaster which is a small version of G1 Optimus Prime's blaster. Fits in his hands perfect. Also, he comes with two other hands.

3rd Party Add Ons-

This is a 3rd party add on, but ironically, there is another 3p add on for the 3p add on. There is a set which comes with a new head for Super mode (which is not a titan master), a Hi-Q/Human Ginrai, and a new chest piece oh and a gap filler for the thighs. I also use a Dr Wu blue star saber with this figure. (see the main page for reviews on the other add ons)

I love this figure, both on its own and with Super Ginrai. He holds a lot of nostalgia for me. The articulation is great. He looks great. Honestly, I wouldn't have gotten Super Ginrai if this cab didn't exist.

The plastic is a bit brittle and I wouldn't give this to a kid

In 2020 when I wrote this review, it is hard to find this figure for a reasonable price. I adore this figure though and it is highly reccomended for anyone to get who wants a proper Powermaster Optimus Prime. On it's own, I rate this figure a 9.25 out of 10.

Retools and Repaints-

Perfect Effect Ultra Magnus Redeco
Perfect Effect Primative Optimus Redeco
Perfect Effect Jetpower Prime (severe retool)

This Matrix does not come with Jinrai, it is from Big Convoy

This is the Dr Wu Star Saber Sword
