Transformers Prime pRID Bulkhead Toy Review

Class- Voyager

Prime is in my top 5 of favorite transformer shows. A big part of that is Bulkhead. When I restarted my collection, I had 2 choices for Bulkhead, the PRID version (which this review is for) andthe First Edition one. The first edition one was a lot more expensive so I went with the cheaper option.

Bot Mode-

The standard Bulkhead is a good figure, but he has a few faults. But not enough to make him a bad figure. In robot mode, Bulkhead is a bulky green behemoth. Being a voyager, he is obviously taller than a Deluxe. His head is really well sculpted and I love it. He is primarily dark green but there is a lot of black and light gray. He has a red Autobot logo on his right shoulder. Just a little bit of vehicle kibble in the front and no major backpack. His arms can move up and down and in and out, as can his legs. There is bicep swivel as well as elbow bend and knee bend. There is no toe articulation or ankle tilt. His hands are 5mm but in the show, his hands turned into blasters. This figure does not have that ability (I believe the only figure that can turn its hands into blasters without accessories is FE Cliffjumper). His range of motion is good, but a little held back. He does not have any gimmicks to speak of.

Almost every TF Prime figure has a different type of transformation scheme from a CHUG figure. Bulkhead's transformation is pretty intuitive as well as being pretty fun. For complexity, I rate it a 6.5 out of 10. For fun, a 7.25 out of 10.

Vehicle Mode-

Bulkhead is a big green SUV in vehicle mode. He isn't based on a real vehicle, but it is a really cool vehicle mode none the less. From a sculpting standpoint, it looks really good, but despite having a few different colors, the paint scheme is a little boring. He is mostly the same olive green which robot mode has. He has black painted windows and a few panels of dark green. There is a silver pipe under each door. Again, I like it, but I feel it could be better. I'm not one of those people who customizes their transformers, so I won't be adding any details. He has a bit of robot kibble which is way too visible. His tires are black but they need silver rims. He holds together well and rolls well.

Bulkhead comes with a weird accessory that plugs into the roof of vehicle mode which kind of looks like a wrecking ball. It lights up and I have no idea what to do with it. I also got a gun for him on shapeways

3rd Party Add Ons-

Very solid robot mode, great play value, good price

The vehicle mode is a little weak and he needs better accessories

What would Seth have done differently???

As much as I like the figure, it needs a little work. A little silver paint on the rims of the tires would go a really long way.

Bulkhead's robot mode is really good, his vehicle mode and accessory compliment is a bit lacking. I wasn't planning on ever replacing Bulkhead, but there are rumors that APC (the same guys who put out the really good KO of First Edition Optimus) is going to put out an improved KO of First Edition Bulkhead. If that comes to market, I will get it. I rate PrID Bulkhead a 7 out of 10.
