G1 Cartoon

Ratchet was a valuable member of the Autobots who was frequently seen.  He was the primary doctor of the Autobots and helped Wheeljack create new tools and even some new Autobots.  He looked almost exactly like Ironhide but a different color.  In vehicle mode, Ratchet was an ambulance.

He was first shown in the battle on the Ark which caused the Transformers to crash into Earth.  Because Soundwave threw Ratchet into a piece of machinery, the Ark crashed. The Ark crashes into Earth and the Autobots and Decepticons are dormant for millions of years.  After Hound is injured in battle with Laserbeak, Ratchet, Cliffjumper, and Hauler save him.  Ratchet was a warrior as much as he was a doctor.  He was part of an Autobot strike team who attacked the Decepticons.  The Autobots track the Decepticons to an off shore oil platform.  Once they arrive, the Decepticons attack.  After a brief battle, Megatron damages the oil rig and retreats with the Decepticons.

After the battle, Ratchet is busy repairing several of his friends, including reattaching Huffer’s arm. The Autobots then attempt to stop the Decepticons from mining the ruby crystals of Burma.   When Optimus Prime is injured in an explosion, Ratchet jumps to repair him.  He manages the other Autobots to give proper treatment to Optimus.  Then Ironhide is injured in battle.  He travels back to the Ark inside of Ratchet.

After repairing Ironhide, Ratchet joins all of the Autobots in attacking the Decepticon base to prevent them from leaving Earth.  The Autobots arrive at the same time that the Decepticons are boarding their ship.  During the battle, The Autobots have the upper hand in the battle, but the Decepticons retreat to their space cruiser.  The Decepticons crash into the ocean.

After months of peace, the Decepticons resurface and attack a solar power plant.  Optimus Prime organizes a team of Autobots to stop them.  Ratchet is included in the team.  The Autobots crash into the power plant and fight the Decepticons.  The Decepticons plan their escape, but Ratchet and Prowl fire on Starscream.  Starscream disarms both Autobots with his blaster.  Ironhide is injured in the battle, and Ratchet repairs him with Sparkplug.  During the repair process, Ratchet teaches Sparkplug about Transformer physiology.  Later, Ratchet is part of a rescue party to save Spike from the Decepticons. .  Inside of a cave, the Decepticons trap the Autobots inside, and attack.  When Laserbeak attacks Prowl, Ratchet captures Laserbeak with a net.  When the Decepticons retreat to the Space Bridge, Starscream fires on the entrance, trapping the Autobots in the cave.  Ratchet sees that Bumblebee is in dire need of repairs, he discovers that Bumblebee’s memory circuits were altered by Megatron.  Bumblebee is then able to give the accurate location of the Space Bridge to the Autobots.  Together, the Autobots fire on the rocks which are keeping them trapped in the cave.  They then go to the correct location of the Decepticon Space Bridge.  The Autobots arrive just in time to save Spike from being sent to Cybertron in the Space Bridge.  Megatron is then caught in the Space Bridge and it activates and is thought to be dead.

Later, an Autobot team whose mission was to stop the Decepticons from gaining the power of Anti Matter.  When the Autobots attack, Megatron uses the Anti Matter Energon Cubes as weapons, causing a massive explosion.  The Decepticons escape and the damaged Autobots return to base for repairs.  Ratchet and Sparkplug repair the damaged Autobots.

Ratchet works with Wheeljack many times, both to repair as well as to invent new tools and weapons.  When Optimus Prime is gravely injured in battle, Ratchet works with Wheeljack to repair him.  They do everything they can for their leader, but he is in bad condition.  Optimus is barely clinging to life and then, Laserbeak attacks.  He causes even more damage to Optimus Prime  Optimus Prime’s chest explodes from the laser blast!   Optimus Prime needs a part called a cosmotron.  Luckily, Wheeljack has one, but it is in his lab on Cybertron.  Several Autobots go to Cybertron to get the part and the Decepticons attack.  While the bulk of the Autobots defend the Ark, Ratchet and Wheeljack stay back to protect Optimus Prime.  Optimus Prime is repaired just in time to save all of the Autobots from destruction.

Ratchet joins Optimus Prime and the Autobots when they go to the Arctic Circle to stop the Decepticon plot which is causing the Earth to cool down.  When they reach the Arctic, they encounter the newest Decepticon, Skyfire. .  The battle ends when Skyfire brings Spike and Sparkplug to Megatron.  When the Autobots try to save them, Gears, Ratchet, Ironhide and Hound fall through the ice.  They travel through the ice caves, and come across Soundwave and Reflector making Energon Cubes.  Megatron discovers them and they are detained.  Ratchet and the Autobots are bound to a large crystal.  Starscream wants Skyfire to execute them.  Skyfire refuses and Starscream shoots him in the chest.  Thinking that Skyfire is dead, Starscream then fires on the captured Autobots.  When the dust clears, he sees nothing but Autobot body parts in the snow.  Thinking they are dead, Starscream returns to the caves.  The Autobots were saved by Hound who made an illusion of dead Autobots.  Ratchet repairs Skyfire, but is shot while working.  The Decepticons are defeated, but Skyfire is trapped under ice again.

The Autobots find dinosaur remains in a hidden cavern on the Ark.  This inspires Ratchet and Wheeljack to create the Dinobots.  The Dinobots attack the Autobots when they are activated and Teletran 1 is damaged.  During the battle, Ratchet tries to start repairs on Teletran 1.  The Autobots prevail and the Dinobots are deactivated.

Ratchet and the Autobots take Skyfire to Peru to stop the Decepticons from turning an energy crystal into a weapon. The Autobots fight the Decepticons.  While escaping, Megatron fires on a mountain, causing an avalanche to occupy the Autobots.   The Autobots then make their way to the Inca Temple to battle the Decepticons.  As they approach, Megatron fires the cannon at the Autobots, but they are able to dodge his attacks.  During the battle, Megatron destroys a hill which covers the Autobots in rubble.  The Autobots dig themselves out and continue to try to stop the Decepticons. Skyfire saves the Autobots and the Decepticons are defeated.

Ratchet and the Autobots respond to Chip’s call for help.  Chip discovers a meteor that is about to hit Earth.  Ratchet and the Autobots go to an observatory to see how they can help.  Chip tells the Autobots that the meteor contains a significant amount of energy inside of it.  The Autobots want to prevent the Decepticons from acquiring it.  Ratchet watches as the meteor falls to Earth.   Optimus Prime is so happy with the Dinobots, that he wants Wheeljack and Ratchet to build two more.  Snarl and Swoop are created.  Ratchet and Wheeljack have Prowl, Bluestreak, Sideswipe, and Ironhide test the new Dinobots.

After the Autobots return from battling the Decepticons under water to save Sparkplug, Ratchet works on repairing the Autobots.  Before he can finish, the Decepticons attack the Autobot headquarters.  Before Megatron can destroy the Autobots, Spike quickly repairs Teletran 1 and activates the Autobot defenses.  After Teletran 1 is repaired, the Autobots learn that the Decepticons are building a massive Space Bridge.  Ratchet goes with Optimus Prime and the Autobots to investigate.  When they reach the Space Bridge, Megatron orders the mind controlled human workers to attack the Autobots.  He knows that Optimus Prime won’t allow the Autobots to harm a human.

The Decepticons are successful in activating the Space Bridge.  It brings Cybertron to Earth and causes numerous natural disasters across the globe.  The Autobots are forced to retreat when Soundwave uses a sonic attack to clear the area.  The Autobots are forced to evacuate their base when the volcano that houses their ship becomes active again.  Ratchet, Huffer, and Windcharger are caught in the explosion, but Skyfire saves them from immolation.

Ratchet and the Autobots travel on surfboards on the ocean.  There is a massive tidal wave approaching them.  The Autobots use the momentum of the tidal wave to travel to Megatron’s base on Earth.   The Autobots are about to be defeated when Skyfire arrives with reinforcements.  The Autobots are victorious when they destroy Megatron’s ship.. The explosion caused by the Energon Cubes inside of it knocks Cybertron out of Earth’s orbit.  Earth is saved and the Autobots think that Megatron is dead

Ratchet helps rebuild Earth with the rest of the Autobots.  When the Autobots learn that Megatron is alive, the Autobots follow the Decepticons to Dr. Arkeville’s lab.  When the Decepticons learn they are being followed, Megatron sends Skywarp and Thundercracker to attack the Autobots.  The brief battle ends after Optimus Prime throws Megatron in a lake and the Decepticons retreat.  The Autobots continue to follow the Decepticons, but the Decepticons lead them into a trap.  They guide the Autobots into a canyon filled with quicksand.  The Autobots transform to dig themselves out, but the Decepticons get away. Optimus Prime and Megatron work together to save the Earth and the Autobots return home.

Megatron challenges Optimus to a one on one battle.  When it is time for the battle, Ratchet is an observer. , Ratchet and Wheeljack repair Optimus Prime.

When Sparkplug created Autobot X, Ratchet seemed to be a little threatened by Sparkplug’s ingenuity.  Ratchet didn’t feel that the Autobots needed any new recruits.  Autobot X is put into storage after going crazy.  Ratchet then goes with the Autobots to defend an Air Force Base from the Decepticons.  During the battle, Soundwave shoots Ratchet in the back with his blaster.  The Decepticons retreat when they realize that the battle cause all of the rocket fuel to be destroyed.  Spike is injured in the battle and Ratchet takes him to the hospital in ambulance mode.  Spike’s mind is put into Autobot X’s body while the doctors work to heal him.   After some wacky misadventures, Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Sparkplug return Spike’s mind to the proper body.

Ratchet travels with the Autobots into the forest to help Wheeljack test his new invention, the Immobilizer.  After a successful test, the Decepticons arrive and steal the device.  At the Ark, Ratchet repairs Ironhide and tries to cheer him up.  After the Autobots learn that the effects of the Immobilizer are temporary, they seek out the Decepticons before they figure out how to make it permanent.

When the Dinobots unintentionally damage the Autobot base, Ratchet performs most of the repairs.  He proves that he is a superior mechanic, not just for Autobots.  While Ratchet and Sparkplug are trying to fix a piece of equipment, Snarl swats it with his tail by accident.  After the Ratchet and Sparkplug are able to complete repairs to the Autobot base after the Dinobots move to Dinobot Island.  Once activated, Teletran 1 picks up a strange energy disturbance, temporal energy.  The Decepticons are on Dinobot Island and they are taking it’s energy.  The more that they steal, the more time portals open up.

After Cliffjumper discovers where the Decepticons may be hiding a piece of stolen energy creating equipment, Ratchet joins the Autobots on a mission to recover it.  The Autobots reach the Decepticon base in a desert valley and transform into robot mode.  The Autobots leap into a valley to battle the Decepticons.  During the battle, Shrapnel hits the Electro Cells with his blaster accidentally.  The Autobots retreat so the Electro Cells won’t be in further jeopardy of destroying the Earth.  When the Autobots arrive at the Ark, Ratchet repairs Mirage’s battle damage.  After Cliffjumper returns from spying on the Decepticons, he tells Ratchet and Optimus Prime that Mirage gave Energon Cubes to the Decepticons and he is a traitor.  Ratchet wonders where Mirage even got an Energon Cube from since that is a Decepticon source of fuel.  Ratchet goes with Optimus Prime and Cliffjumper to sort everything out.  When they reach the Decepticon base, a mind controlled Mirage lures them into a trap.  The Decepticons and Insecticons box the Autobots in and fire at them from above.  When Bombshell’s hold of Mirage starts to fade, he wants to shoot Mirage.  Ratchet saves him by scaring the Insecticon away with his blaster.  Ratchet still doesn’t believe that an Autobots could be a traitor.  When Ratchet examines Mirage, he finds the Cerebro Shell and removes it.  Mirage’s freewill is restored.  Cliffjumper, Ratchet, and Mirage give Optimus Prime cover fire while he attacks the Decepticon base alone to recover the Electro Cells.

Ratchet travels with the Autobots to protect an experimental robot called Nightbird.  The Decepticons steal her and injure many Autobots.  After the battle, Ratchet wants to transport Brawn back to the Autobot base.  Brawn can’t transform and says that he will walk, but eventually agrees to ride inside of Ratchet for repairs.  Nightbird infiltrates the Autobot base and steals a data chip detailing the Earth’s energy supplies.  Ratchet  discovers the theft.  Ratchet gets Teletran 1 operational again and notifies Optimus Prime.

When a gold mine is being attacked by Decepticons, Optimus Prime sounds the alarm to rally the Autobots.   The Autobots transform and head to the mine to fight the Decepticons.  When the Autobots arrive, Optimus Prime tells the Autobots to be quiet.  They observe the mine and see that the Decepticons have placed the miners in an electrified cage.  As the Decepticons are about to kill the miners, the Autobots attack.  The Decepticons free the miners to prevent the Autobots from attacking.  Megatron takes out a sidearm and shoots at boulders causing them to roll into the Autobots.  The boulders roll over the Autobots, damaging them.  The battle comes to an abrupt end when the Decepticons abduct Gears and fly away.  The Autobots return to their base and the Earth is in jeopardy of being destroyed when the Decepticons are stealing solar energy.  The Autobots travel to Africa to stop the Decepticons, save the Earth, and save Gears.  When they reach the Decepticon base, Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to fire on the Solar Needle to destroy it, even though it puts Gears at risk.  The Autobots’ attack is reflected back at them by a force field Megatron erected around the Solar Needle.  Cliffjumper disrupts the force field by leaping into it in vehicle mode, and the Autobots attack.  The Autobots have the Decepticons at gun point, but Megatron is holding Optimus Prime as a hostage.  Optimus Prime tells the Autobots to disregard Megatron and to destroy the Solar Needle.  The Autobots can’t, they drop their weapons and surrender.   Optimus Prime convinces Gears to disable the Solar Needle and the sun doesn’t explode.  The Autobots rush into battle.  Ratchet kicks Skywarp in the head during the battle.  After the Decepticons retreat, Optimus Prime orders Wheeljack and Ratchet to fully disable the Solar Needle.  The Earth has become very unstable.  One of the Solar Needle’s pillars is about to fall on Wheeljack, so Ratchet kicks a rock at it and knocks it away from Wheeljack.  The two Autobots work on turning the solar needle off but can’t decide which wire to cut.  Optimus picks one and luckily that is the right one.  The Earth is saved and Gears is restored.

Ratchet helps defend the Ark when a clone of Optimus Prime replaces the real Optimus Prime.  When the real Optimus Prime arrives at the Autobot base, the clone tries to get the Autobots to destroy him.  The Autobots set up a series of tests to try to figure out which Optimus is the real Optimus.   After the Autobots can’t decide which is the real Optimus, Ironhide takes command of the Autobots.  The Autobots travel to the desert to a crevice filled with energy crystals.  It is a trap and the Decepticons immediately attack.  Windcharger emerges from the energy crystals and explains to the Autobots that Clone Optimus is an impostor and Spike has been captured by the Decepticons.  When the Clone refuses to save Spike, the Autobots know he is the fake and destroy him.

Ratchet follows Optimus Prime when Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker approach the Ark.  Optimus Prime and Ratchet stay back while a few other Autobots fight.  Skywarp flies towards Optimus Prime and Ratchet.  He fires a missile at Ratchet, but Optimus Prime scoops him up to protect him from the explosion. Rumble uses his pile drivers to open up the ground under Optimus Prime and Ratchet.  They fall into the pit that Rumble created.  The Decepticons suddenly retreat and the Autobots return to base.  During the battle, Megatron and Starscream snuck into the Ark and altered the Autobots’ recharging station.  Once the Autobots used it to recharge, they were turned evil.  Under Megatron’s orders, Ratchet and Hound attack an office building to get plans for a solar satellite.  The scientist who has the plans escapes from them by jumping out a window.  Jazz and Sparkplug are able to restore Hound, but Ratchet continues to stalk to the scientist for her satellite plans.  As he is about to grab her (and probably crush her to death), Jazz sneaks up on Ratchet and uses Sparkplug’s device to restore Ratchet’s personality.  Ratchet works with the other restored Autobots next to restore Skyfire.  They travel inside of Skyfire to the Air Force Base that Optimus Prime is attacking.  The Autobots restore Optimus Prime, Prowl, and Brawn with Sparkplug’s device.  After all of the Autobots are restored, they travel inside of Skyfire to stop the Decepticons from leaving Earth with an energy gathering satellite.  Skyfire reaches the rocket base in time for the Autobots to see the rocket fly into the air with the Decepticons inside of it.  Optimus Prime and Ratchet jump out of Skyfire to engage the rocket.  As Optimus Prime and Ratchet are trying to disconnect the satellite, Megatron and Soundwave start shooting at them.  The Autobots defeat the Decepticons when Jazz uses his stereo to make the rocket crash.

Ratchet travels with Optimus Prime and the Autobots to South America because they learned of the discovery of a crashed Decepticon ship.  When they reach the South American jungle, the Autobots are forced to walk through the jungle instead of using their vehicle mode.   The Autobots quickly find the trail that the Decepticons made.  The Autobots arrive just as Hook installs the Star Drive of the ship inside of Megatron.  The Autobots attack, but Megatron is too powerful now that he has been enhanced by the Star Drive (also known as the Heart of Cybertron).  Together, the Autobots fire their weapons at a hill causing a rock slide.  The Decepticons are buried and the Autobots return to base to repair themselves.  Perceptor, Brawn, and Bumblebee get shrunken to enter Megatron and disconnect the Star Drive.  Optimus Prime has Ratchet organize every functioning Autobot to help defend the Ark and slow down Megatron.  Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Optimus Prime stay behind a force field while other Autobots fight Megatron.  Megatron is defeated and flies away.

Ratchet is part of an Autobot strike force that Optimus Prime creates to defend the Nova Power Plant from the Insecticons.  If the Insecticons consume the energy at the power plant, they will be invincible.  Ratchet is seen driving into the power plant, but disappears during the battle.  Ratchet reappears after the battle to repair the Autobots who were wounded.  While Ratchet is repairing the damaged Autobots, Spike learns that the Insecticons are going to explode from the energy they ate.  The Autobots travel to fight the Decepticons and Insecticons, Ratchet and Wheeljack work on a cure to prevent the Insecticons from exploding.  Wheeljack and Ratchet arrive at the battlefield just as the Insecticons are trying to steal the data from Iron Mountain.

When the mayor of Central City declares an Autobot Day holiday, Ratchet is part of the parade in vehicle mode.  The celebration is cut very short when the Autobots are accused of being evil.  The Autobots are given a trial and are found guilty.  They are exiled from the Earth forever.  After their ship takes off, Megatron uses Teletran 1 to alter the flight plan to send the Autobots into the sun.

After the Autobots were exiled from Earth, Cosmos guides the Autobot spacecraft away from Earth.  The ship is destroyed and the world thinks the Autobots are dead.  They survive when Trailbreaker surrounds the Autobots with a force field and links it to Cosmos.  Cosmos guides the Autobots back to Earth.  Once the Autobots return to Earth, they follow Optimus Prime to a power plant to engage Megatron and the Decepticons.  Ratchet uses energy blasts from his hand to combat the Decepticons.  The Autobots prove to be too powerful and the Decepticons retreat.

Ratchet and the Autobots watch a news report from the Ark.  The report says that the Empire State Building in New York City sunk into the ground and disappeared.  The Autobots travel to Manhattan to protect it from Decepticons.  When the Autobots reach Central Park, they are ambushed by Soundwave, Rumble, and Frenzy.  Optimus Prime is captured and Megatron orders the Autobots to leave New York City or they will never see Optimus again.   Megatron takes control of New York City causing the Autobots and the human inhabitants of the city to leave in a mass exodus.  Spike gets an idea of how to save Optimus, and the Autobots follow Bumblebee and Spike as they take an exit off of a bridge.  Ratchet and a few other Autobots follow Bumblebee into a harbor.  They swim into the New York City sewers to try to covertly save Optimus Prime.  The Autobots travel in the sewers and Ratchet complains that he feels like he is in a swamp, not the largest city in North America (fun fact of the day which probably added just enough education to justify the violence of the episode).   The Autobots are confused when they pick up multiple signals which have Optimus Prime’s energy signature.  They are suddenly attacked by a robotic alligator made of Optimus Prime’s parts.  The alligator follows the Autobots, but they can’t engage it in full out battle because it will alert the Decepticons that they didn’t leave Manhattan.  Bumblebee and Spike act as bait and run into an abandoned subway car.  The alligator follows them and gets stuck inside.  Ratchet reactivates the subway car and it starts to roll down the track with the robot alligator inside.  Ratchet and Hound break into the Decepticon base and find Optimus Prime’s severed head.  Ratchet reconnects Optimus’ voice box and he thanks the two Autobots for saving him.  The head of Optimus Prime is able to locate and control the severed body parts.  He signals for his legs and they fly through the air to the Autobots.  The Autobots collect his legs and grab the head, and start looking for the rest of his body parts.  The Autobots and Spike travel through the sewer back to the robot alligator.  Hound, Ratchet, and Mirage restrain it so Spike and Bumblebee can bring Optimus’ head and legs close to the savage creature.  Optimus sends out a signal from his head which pacifies the creature made of his parts.  Mirage, Hound and Ratchet bring it to Optimus’ head.  Ratchet immediately starts to work on bringing Optimus back to normal.  He succeeds, but somehow has a significant amount of extra parts which don’t impede Optimus from functioning.  The Autobots need to continue their quest to restore Optimus Prime, he is still missing an arm.  Optimus Prime then leads the Autobots to his arm so he can be fully functional.  Ratchet and the Autobots take Optimus Prime above ground,  to the Decepticon Citadel in the Empire State Building.  It isn’t long before they are attacked by Optimus Prime’s own weapon.  Ratchet helps Ironhide and Optimus reclaim Optimus Prime’s arm.  Ironhide shoots a cable from the ground.  Ratchet follows Ironhide and Optimus when they climb up the Decepticon fortress.  The Seekers try to shoot them off the tower, but Ironhide and Ratchet are able to defend themselves and Optimus Prime.  Devestator starts to climb up the side of the Empire State Building to destroy Optimus Prime.  Devestator catches up to Optimus and grabs him.  Ironhide and Ratchet try to save Optimus, but before they can fire, Devestator hits them through a wall using Optimus Prime as a club.  Ratchet and Ironhide realize they are under Megatron and Soundwave.  The two Autobots fire their blasters at the ceiling causing Megatron and Soundwave to plummet through the floors of the Empire State Building.   The Decepticons are defeated, Optimus Prime is made whole, and the Autobots help restore New York City.

The Dinobots are sent to an airport to battle the Decepticons.  The Decepticons tried to make a hidden base in the airport, but they were discovered.  Even though the Decepticon base was destroyed in the battle, The Dinobots were defeated in the conflict.  Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Hoist work on repairing the Dinobots, but they are having trouble.  The Dinobots are severely damaged.  Ratchet tries to repair Grimlock, but he is electrocuted.  Ratchet complains that he is tired of using primitive tools and parts on Earth.  The Autobot engineers are able to get the Dinobots functioning again.  Wheeljack asks Swoop to transform, but he can’t.  Ratchet makes some alterations, and Swoop transforms.

The Decepticons attack an observatory to steal a device called the Voltronic Galaxer.  Ratchet transforms and goes with the Autobots to protect the observatory and the device from the Decepticons.  The Autobots arrive at the observatory too late, the Decepticons have already escaped with the device.  Megatron steals the device and uses it to disrupt all communications on Earth.  Because motorists in a mountain range didn’t know snow was coming, they are trapped on the snow filled road.  Ratchet and several other Autobots rush to save them.  They use a snow tire function in vehicle mode to reach the motorists.  The Autobots load the motorists into Ratchet so he can take them to safety.  As the Autobots finish rescuing all of the motorists, they are attacked by Ramjet and Thundercracker.  The two Decepticons cause an avalanche.

Ratchet goes with Optimus Prime and Blaster to defend New York City from cars which the Decepticons turned into weapons.  When the three Autobots get to a bridge, they transform and open fire at the deadly car drones.  The Autobots think they are victorious, but the cars transform into mindless robots and attack..  The mindless drones have horrible aim.  Optimus Prime, Blaster, and Ratchet start firing their weapons again at the drones.  This time, the drones are really destroyed.  Blaster disables all of the drones throughout the city by jamming their control frequency.

Spike and Chip propose to Optimus Prime that the Autobots participate in a race for charity.    Ratchet, Brawn, Huffer, and Wheeljack remain behind to guard the base.  Bumblebee, Spike, and Chip return to the Ark so Wheeljack and Ratchet can come up with a cure.  They have trouble finding the Autobots at first. Ratchet and Wheeljack create a grenade which will restore the Autobots’ ability to transform.  After Hound sends out a holographic message, the Autobots on the Ark know where to go to rescue their friends.  Ratchet and the free Autobots travel to the Decepticons’ Ghost Town with Spike and Chip.  As soon as they arrive, the are attacked by Decepticons.  Wheeljack’s invention works and the Autobots are saved.  After the battle, Ratchet complains about all of the repairs he is going to have to make on the Autobots.

Powerglide finds the source of the Electrum, Ratchet goes to the lagoon with the Autobots to coat himself with Electrum.  The Electrum coated Autobots fight the Electrum coated Decepticons, but neither side is able to damage the other.  During the battle, the Decepticons’ Electrum wears off and they are forced to retreat.  Unfortunately, the beautiful valley that hid the Electrum poll was destroyed in the battle.

Bumblebee returns from space covered in Morphobot spores.  Ratchet successfully removes them.  Ratchet gives a sample of the spores to Perceptor.

Powerglide crash lands in the desert.  Wheeljack travels inside of Ratchet to rescue him.  Together, Ratchet and Wheeljack repair Powerglide.

Optimus Prime is watching the news with Ratchet.  They learn that the Decepticons have stolen cars.  Optimus Prime quickly assumes  that the Decepticons are creating new Decepticons with car vehicle modes.  He tells Ratchet that the Decepticons are unable to give any new Decepticons personalities though. Ratchet seems to have no knowledge of Transformer reproduction.  Before they can make a plan of attack, Teletran-1 alerts the Autobots that the Decepticon Space Bridge has been activated.  Optimus Prime contacts Omega Supreme to take the Autobots to Cybertron.  Ratchet goes on the mission to prevent the Stunticons from getting personalities.  Optimus Prime knows that Alpha Trion understands more about Vector Sigma than any other Autobot, so finding him would be a good start.   The Decepticons already got to Alpha Trion and stole the Key to Vector Sigma from him.    The Autobots find an injured and weakened Alpha Trion among the wreckage.  Optimus Prime tells Ratchet and Hoist to repair Alpha Trion.  Ratchet is a little intimidated to repair Alpha Trion because he is so severely damaged.  Alpha Trion warns the Autobots that the Decepticons may have already reached Vector Sigma.  Optimus Prime leads the Autobots to Vector Sigma after Hoist, Wheeljack, and Ratchet repair Alpha Trion.  While the Autobots are being led through the underground catacombs of Cybertron by Vector Sigma, they come across a maintenance room.  The room is filled with the bodies of deactivated Transformers (probably Autobots) as well as some space crafts.   The Autobots know they are on the right path when they are attacked by Centurion droids under Megatron’s control.  The Autobots open fire on the Centurion droids, but their weapons have no effect.  The Autobots are unable to stop the droids so they escape back to the maintenance room.  Optimus Prime has Ratchet and Hoist rewire the dead transformers to act as interference for the Centurion Droids.  The droids make short work of the reanimated Transformers.  The second wave of reanimated Transformers leads the Centurion droids off a cliff.   When the Autobots finally enter Vector Sigma’s chamber, they are awestruck.  In his wisdom, Alpha Trion already knows that Megatron was able to grant sentience to the Stunticons.  Ratchet assumes correctly that Megatron has already taken the Stunticons back to Earth and they are causing havoc.

All of the Autobots that went to Cybertron to prevent the Decepticons from reaching Vector Sigma work together to build the Aerialbots.  Once they are complete, Optimus Prime plans to bring the mindless Aerialbots to Vector Sigma so it can breathe life into them.  Wheeljack points out that the Decepticons still have control of the Key to Vector Sigma.  Alpha Trion sacrifices himself to reactivate Vector Sigma without a key and the Aerialbots are given life.  After fighting their way back to the surface through another army of Centurion Droids, the Autobots and Aerialbots take Omega Supreme to Earth.  Once the Autobots arrive home, Omega Supreme explodes.  Ratchet works tirelessly to repair Omega Supreme.  Ratchet points out that it couldn’t be any worse, but at least they were lucky enough to protect his brain unit.

Ratchet performs routine maintenance on Ironhide in the Ark.  Ironhide asks Ratchet if he could perform upgrades which would allow him to match the power of the Stunticons.  Ratchet tells Ironhide that he is fine the way he is.  The Stunticons are attacking various locations and the Autobots leave their base to foil the Stunticons’ plans.  Wheeljack and Ratchet remain in the Ark.  They stand outside waiting for the Autobots to return.  They learn that the Autobots were able to overcome the Stunticons when each Autobot team returns with disabled Stunticons.  Ironhide, Ratchet, Hound and Wheeljack respond to the alarm when the real Stunticons break out of their cages.  The Stunticons merge into Menasor to escape.  Ratchet and the other Autobots are injured and Menasor returns to the Decepticons to expose the disguised Autobots.

Ratchet goes with several Autobots and the Aerialbots to Cybertron.  Teletran-1 detected strange energy readings on the planet.  The Autobots and Aerialbots transform and split up to search Cybertron.   Ratchet  and the Autobots arrive right after the Decepticon Kronosphere is activated. .  They drive right into a war torn building to save the Aerialbots.  Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker position themselves behind a pillar and and unleash a steady stream of laser fire at the Autobots.  Optimus Prime destroys the Kronosphere to prevent the Aerialbots from traveling back to the Big Bang.  Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Ironhide work together to repair the Kronosphere to return the Aerialbots to the present. Wheeljack is able to repair the Kronosphere.  He activates the return function and in two minutes, the Aerialbots will be back.  Unfortunately for the Autobots, the Decepticons attack the compound. .   Before the Autobots can expel the Decepticons, a headless Guardian Robot tears the roof off the building and attacks.  Optimus Prime, Ratchet, and Ironhide fire their weapons at the Guardian Robot, but their weapons aren’t strong enough.  Ratchet and Ironhide transform to distract the Guardian Robot so Optimus can continue his assault.  The Aerialbots return and as Superion, they destroy the Guardian Robot.  The Decepticons have lost another battle and the Autobots return home.

Perceptor creates a substance called Corrostop.  The Autobots want to use it to protect all of Earth’s man made monuments.  The first monument that the Autobots work on is the Statue of Liberty.  Ratchet helps spray the Corrostop on Lady Liberty.   Perceptor is infected with Cosmic Rust and is attached to a bomb.  Ratchet goes with the Autobots to save Perceptor.

Ratchet enters a chamber in the Ark when he notices Smokescreen is out of control.  Smokescreen is emitting smoke inside of the Autobot headquarters.  Ratchet soon realizes that an energy creature named Kremzeek is causing Smokescreen to malfunction.  Kremzeek leaves Smokescreen and enters Ratchet.  Ratchet loses control of himself and starts spinning around.  He winds up getting short circuited like the other Autobots.

Ratchet goes on a rescue mission to a power plant with the Autobots.  They want to save Cliffjumper and Jazz who were captured earlier.

When the Aerialbots are attacked by the Combaticons in Iran, Ratchet travels with the Autobots to save them.  After the battle, the Autobots and Aerialbots travel together to a nearby Air Base for repairs.

Ratchet dies in Transformers the movie

Marvel G1 Comic

Ratchet was the chief medical officer of The Ark, the spaceship which brought The Autobots and an invading Decepticon force to Earth.  He had a very interesting history in the G1 comic and was in the book longer than the character was used in the show.  In the very early issues, he looked like his G1 action figure, a small bot on a battle platform, but he quickly (without explanation) started looking like his cartoon version.

Ratchet was in charge of fixing the Autobots after their battle with Megatron and the Decepticons at Sparkplug Witwicky’s garage.  Sparkplug is later injured, causing a heart attack, and Ratchet brings him to a hospital.  Ratchet stays at the hospital to monitor Sparkplug from the parking lot and isn’t part of the battle at The Ark.  Because he wasn’t at the battle, he is able to monitor Buster and create a game plan on how to save the Autobots.  At this point, Ratchet is separated from the Autobot force and has to rely on Buster to teach him about human culture and regulations.  Something as simple as a traffic light is completely alien to Ratchet.

Ratchet takes Buster to the Ark where they find that the Decepticons have taken it over.  This causes Ratchet and Buster to go on the run.  They hide in the wilderness hoping to make a plan to save the Autobots.  While in the forest, Buster and Ratchet encounter a group of college students who are camping.  They become friends, but the fun time is short lived when Buster has a seizure from the program of the creation matrix which was imported into Buster’s head by Optimus Prime.  Ratchet leaves Buster so he can go to the Ark alone and he finds the defeated Autobots hanging from the ceiling of The Ark and the decapitated Optimus Prime.  Ratchet is overwhelmed with sadness and doesn’t know what he should do since he is a doctor, not a warrior.  The head of Optimus Prime gives him a pep talk and convinces Ratchet that he must BECOME a warrior.  As Ratchet goes to leave The Ark, he encounters Megatron and they have a brief battle.  Ratchet is no match for Megatron, even a weakened Megatron.  Ratchet then tries to convince Megatron to work together, saying he knows how the Dinobots defeated Shockwave 4 million years ago (which was a lie).  Megatron lets Ratchet go free and Ratchet goes to Antarctica to search for The Dinobots.

At this point, Transformers were part of the greater Marvel Universe, so Ratchet was in prehistoric jungle of The Savage Land in his search.  Ratchet finds Transformer life signs in a tar pit and finds The Dinobots.  He revives the Dinobots and brings them back to Oregon.  He goes to meet with Megatron to let him know he has made a plan to defeat Shockwave, and Megatron tries to double cross him.  Luckily, Ratchet anticipated this and had the Dinobots hidden.  Megatron makes short work of all five Dinobots and then brings his attention to Ratchet.  Ratchet tries to fight, but is too weak.  Megatron is almost impressed at Ratchet’s bravery, but winds up falling off the mountain and being stuck in gun mode.  Ratchet fixes the Autobots and brings them all back to life.

After Optimus returns as leader of the Autobots, Ratchet takes on Jetfire as an assistant to help him make repairs.

When Omega Supreme is built, Ratchet is left alone on the Ark with Omega Supreme while Optimus Prime takes the Autobots to find the secret of Devestator.  There are over a dozen injured and unconscious Autobots under Ratchet’s care.

Weeks later, Optimus Prime is dead.  Ratchet works non stop to try to bring him back to life, but it is impossible.  The Autobots arrange a funeral but Ratchet can’t find the ability to make himself go.  He feels too responsible that he was unable to save Optimus Prime.  First Aid tries to comfort him, but First Aid is unable to cheer up the Chief Medical Officer of The Ark.  Ratchet looks at the life support pods where other damaged Autobots lie in a coma from previous battles.  This just makes Ratchet feel worse and more like a failure.  He decides that First Aid was right and even though Optimus Prime is dead, he can repair the other fallen Autobots.  He goes to a junk yard and starts pilfering parts from junked Earth vehicles.  He sees humans in the junk yard and transforms into vehicle mode to hide out.  One of the humans is a criminal known as “The Mechanic”.  It turns out that the gathering between the people and The Mechanic was a sting organized by the police.  To escape capture, The Mechanic hides inside of Ratchet and ultimately “steals” him.  The Mechanic sees a slew of Cybertronian equipment and realizes the ambulance he stole isn’t a typical ambulance.  Ratchet assumes that The Mechanic can help him with repairs of the Autobots and helps him escape from the police.  The Mechanic strips a lot of the Cybertronian technology from Ratchet and starts using them as weapons.  Ratchet quickly realizes that The Mechanic is not a good guy and reveals himself as an Autobot to The Mechanic, he demands his equipment back.  One of The Mechanic’s men freezes Ratchet with his own Cryogenic tool and they escape, or at least that’s what Ratchet believes.  They sit outside in a car waiting for Ratchet to thaw out.  In ambulance mode, he goes back to The Ark and The Mechanic follows, hoping to get more Cybertronian technology.  Ratchet sends out a signal which shuts down the exterior weapons of The Ark and The Mechanic takes advantage of that.  Ratchet catches The Mechanic in The Ark and is shot in the leg by The Mechanic by Ratchet’s laser scalpel.  The Mechanic reactivates the exterior weapons and the Autobots are attacked by their own automated defenses.  Ratchet reactivates Prowl and while in Police Car mode, Prowl scares off The Mechanic.  Ratchet turns off the automated defenses and repairs the injured Autobots.  Ratchet has a new sense of purpose and where First Aid said it will take a week to get everyone repaired, Ratchet vows to do it in two days.

Eventually, Grimlock restores The Ark and takes it into space. After several weeks in space, Ratchet begs Grimlock to take the Autobots back to Earth so the Decepticons can’t take over Earth.  Grimlock rejects Ratchet’s request saying humans aren’t his problem.  When Fortress Maximus requests Grimlock’s help in restoring Optimus Prime, Ratchet is overjoyed.  Grimlock doesn’t have the same thoughts and strikes down Ratchet.

Ratchet is present when Buster Witwicky is saved from Decepticon captivity in the arctic.  Spike expects Ratchet to be able to heal Buster because he is an ambulance, but Ratchet tells him he isn’t a human doctor.

During the Underbase Saga, the Autobots suffered crippling casualties.  Numerous Autobots were killed and Ratchet took it on himself to rebuild and restore them, as well as repair the wounded.  Ratchet starts to have nightmares about his fallen friends attacking him for not fixing them.  Optimus Prime witnesses this and orders Ratchet to take some time away from the medical bay so he can catch his breath.  Ratchet reluctantly agrees.  Ratchet is overwhelmed and doesn’t have the equipment or the parts to repair his fallen friends.  Unaware of his nightmares, a team of Decepticons, posing as Autobots, infiltrate the Ark and breathe limited life into the dead Autobots, making it look like they were zombie Autobots, which is exactly what Ratchet was having nightmares about.  Ratchet faces his fears and realizes his value to the Autobots.  The Decepticon Sports Car Patrol (the Decepticons who infiltrated the Ark) convince Ratchet to go to Cybertron, via space bridge, taking the bodies of Goldbug, Grimlock and Jazz with him.  When Ratchet gets to Cybertron, he encounters something worse than his worst nightmares, Megatron, alive.

Ratchet thinks that Megatron is going to kill him, but Megatron has other plans for him.  Megatron wants Ratchet to restore a dead Decepticon as a Pretender.  Megatron shows Ratchet three other Pretender shells that he created, but didn’t feel they were powerful enough for his master plan.  While waiting for Darkwing and Dreadwind to return with Ratchet’s “patient”, Megatron tells Ratchet the story of how he survived the space bridge accident and returned to power.  When Darkwing and Dreadwind arrive at Megatron’s Cybertronian headquarters, they are carrying the body of Starscream.  Megatron wants Ratchet to restore Starscream as a Pretender.  Ratchet reluctantly agrees, and is marveled by the technology.  He is enjoying working on restoring Starscream so much that he almost forgets that Starscream is a Decepticon.  He is quickly reminded, but continues to work so he can remain functioning.  Ratchet makes his own plans to help the Autobots as well.  While working on his secret project, he is monitored by Megatron’s Micromasters.  To complete his scheme, he distracts the Decepticons with an explosion to escape.  He encounters Megatron who already sent Starscream through the space bridge, and Megatron wants to kill him.  Before Megatron can rip the life out of Ratchet, Ratchet’s secret plan comes to fruitition.  He took the three Pretender shells which Megatron was going to throw away and used them to bring Grimlock, Jazz, and Bumblebee (now going by Bumblebee again instead of Goldbug) back to life as Pretenders!

The restored Autobots save Ratchet and Grimlock is the first to attack Megatron, but is quickly defeated.  Megatron is about to kill Ratchet, and Ratchet reveals that even though he restored Starscream, Starscream isn’t a mindless drone.  He will regain his personality and memories. Ratchet takes advantage of Megatron being distracted by the three Autobot Pretenders and tries to escape.  Megatron makes quick work of them and refocuses his rage towards Ratchet.  Ratchet contacts the Ark while Megatron looks for him.  Ratchet is found by the Space Bridge controls.  He has brought the bombs which Megatron’s Micromasters planted on the Ark to Megatron’s base on Cybertron.  Megatron leaps towards Ratchet to kill him, but Ratchet grabs Megatron and they fall into the Space Bridge together.  The explosives go off, and Ratchet and Megatron have disappeared.  Both are assumed to be dead.

Months later, Nightbeat comes up with a plan to look for Ratchet.  He finds evidence on surveillance recordings that Ratchet went through the space bridge with Megatron moments before Megatron’s headquarters blew up.  Nightbeat creates a device to search for him and it is successful.  He brings Ratchet back to the Ark, but now Ratchet is a hybrid Transformer, a mindless brute bonded with Megatron. The Ratchet part of the hybrid reaches out to Optimus, trying to remember his old friend, but the Autobots think this is an attack.  Kup enters the room and at first only sees Megatron.  He goes to fire on the creature but Optimus stops him.  The Megatron half of the creature then attacks Megatron and Kup shoots the hybrid.  Nightbeat puts himself in between Kup and the creature, telling Kup that the creature is part Ratchet.  Kup lowers his weapon and then the creature attacks Kup, Nightbeat, and one of the Pretenders.  Before Kup can contain it, the creature escapes onto the Ark, injuring it’s crew and damaging it’s systems. Optimus agrees that the creature has to be put down and engages it in combat.  Optimus defeats the creature but can’t bring himself to kill it.  Ratchet is one of his friends and Optimus has a moral code about killing a defenseless being.  Ratchet’s mind momentarily gains control and asks Optimus to kill him.  Optimus refuses and brings the hybrid creature to Fixit.  Fixit reveals that he thinks he can bring back Ratchet, but if he brings back Ratchet, Megatron will be back too.  Optimus tells him to try.

Ratchet is brought back after Grimlock steals the stasis pods on the Ark and restores the fallen Autobots with Nucleon.  The unpredictable nature of Nucleon separated Megatron from Ratchet.  Ratchet remains in stasis until Shockwave and Starscream steal the Ark with Megatron and Galvatron fighting on it.  Ratchet is awakened, and a side effect from being bonded to Megatron is, now he can see through Megatron’s eyes.  He relives Fixit separating the two and is in mental and physical pain.  Starscream finds him and wants to kill him.  Because he was bonded to Megatron, Ratchet gained some combat ability, and savagely attacks Starscream.  Starscream is still more powerful than Ratchet.  Ratchet damages the Nucleon tanks causing an explosion which makes the Ark to crash onto Earth.  Ratchet is presumed dead after the crash.

IDW Re-Generation One

In the IDW take on the post G1 world, Ratchet is shown to be taken apart by Megatron. Ratchet's head is still somewhat alive, but it is bound to Megatron's sky sled. The link between Ratchet and Megatron still exists.

IDW Transformers

Ratchet was a doctor before the war and in the early days of the war, he was the chief medical officer of the Autobots.  Ratchet was abducted by the Decepticons and Orion Pax (aka Optimus Prime) is sent to save him.

After Scorponok makes a refinery explode, Wheeljack, Jetfire,Ratchet and Perceptor search the wreckage.  There is radiation in the area, but the scientists’ Rad Shields protect them.  Jetfire leads the Autobot scientists underground to look for survivors.

The four Autobots find ancient script on the wall of the cavern which they theorize discusses the Knights of Cybertron.  They also make a much more important discovery, a massive amount of naturally formed Energon.  Ratchet falls in the liquid Energon and emerges feral.  He tries to choke Perceptor, but Jetfire pulls Ratchet off of Perceptor and Ratchet calms down.  The science team detects something approaching, and they left their weapons outside.   The four Autobots discover an unusual beast like species in the caverns.  Jetfire is tackled by one of them and struggles to get free.   Ratchet has an escape plan, he transforms and makes a hole in the cavern wall into the next cavern so the Autobots can escape.  The Autobots see an ancient structure and the animals are too afraid to follow.  Jetfire transforms to scout ahead and finds something terrible, the Decepticon Titan Trypticon.

Optimus meets the Autobot Science Team.  They tell him that they found a large pool of liquid Energon under the planet, but it is being guarded by a dormant Trypticon.

Trypticon awakens and torments the Autobots.  He is assumed to be defeated, but that is not the case.   Flying technorganic animals emerge from Trypticon and attack the Autobots.  Ratchet encountered them earlier and thought that they were native to the caves under Cybertron.  In fact, Trypticon manufactured them.  Trypticon reawakens and starts blasting buildings with his mouth cannon.  Optimus Prime challenges Trypticon but Grimlock and Megatron are the ones who ultimately defeat the Titan.

After Trypticon is defeated, Wheeljack and Ratchet work together to purge the feral Energon from the Dinobots’ bodies.  The scientists were having problem purging the tainted Energon from Grimlock, but ultimately succeed.

Ratchet shows up on Earth in the present time.  He has taken an Earth vehicle mode (an ambulance) and saves Hunter O’Nion and Verity Carlo from Thundercracker.  Thundercracker is attacking the two humans, but Ratchet appears and fires on the Decepticon in vehicle mode.  He reveals his human digital avatar and tells the two humans to come with him for their own safety.

The humans get inside of Ratchet.  Hunter realizes that the ambulance is actually a Transformer when he discovers that Ratchet is driving at at least 180 MPH.  In vehicle mode, Runabout and Runamuck surround Ratchet, Hunter, and Verity.  Ratchet asks Hunter and Verity if he can trust them.  Ratchet engages the two Decepticons with the humans inside of him.  Runabout sideswipes Ratchet.  In vehicle mode, Ratchet deploys guns on each side and causes the Decepticons to crash.  Thundercracker resumes his attack.  Ratchet gets some distance from Thundercracker when he makes a smoke screen.  Ratchet tells the two humans that they only have a few minutes before Thundercracker attacks again.  Ratchet also tells them that he needs repairs.  Verity takes out the mini computer that she stole earlier and looks for a place for everyone to hide.  She guides Ratchet and Hunter to the garage of Jimmy Pink.  With Ratchet’s guidance, Jimmy works on repairing him.  Runabout and Runamuck track down Ratchet to Jimmy’s garage.  They attack and destroy his garage.

Runabout and Runamuck want the mini computer that Verity Carlo stole.  Ratchet’s human digital avatar offers to give it to them, but it is all a ruse.  The two Decepticons are electrocuted.  Ratchet transforms to protect his new friends and battle the Decepticons.  Runamuck is about to open fire on Ratchet, but Ratchet deploys a laser from his arm and fires first.  Ratchet transforms and tells the three humans to get inside.   While Ratchet is trying to get the humans to safety, Thundercracker finds them and swoops down from the sky.  Ratchet takes evasive maneuvers and causes some cars to crash into each other.  Runabout and Runamuck join the pursuit and they crash into more cars.  Ratchet continues to try to get the humans to safety, but the Battlechargers deploy missiles and fire them at the Autobot and humans.  Ratchet tricks the Decepticons into crashing into a tractor trailer.  Verity is overwhelmed and tells everyone to stop.  She rushes out of Ratchet and Jimmy follows her to calm her down.  Verity and Jimmy return to Ratchet and Thundercracker appears again firing missiles.  Ratchet speeds off and is joined by Prowl, Sunstreaker, and Ironhide who deploy weapons to fight Thundercracker.  After Thundercracker is defeated, all of the Autobots transform.  They arrest Ratchet for disobeying orders.

In the Ark-19, the humans are detained.  Ratchet tells Prowl that he knows he disobeyed orders, but he would do it again.  He acknowledges that the Autobots are trying to save Earth, but he is trying to do the same thing, just one human at a time.  Ratchet convinces Verity to let him have the mini computer and promises he will give it back to her.  Ratchet finds out that the Decepticons have an abandoned base in Michigan.  Verity offers to take Hunter and Jimmy to sneak in.  Ratchet doesn’t want to put them in danger.  Bumblebee sees that Ratchet is torn to make a decision.  Bumblebee explains to Ratchet that he doesn’t see another option.  Ratchet gathers the humans to go to Michigan but Bumblebee transforms as well to join him.  Verity rides inside of Bumblebee, Jimmy and Hunter ride inside of Ratchet.

When everyone reaches the Nebraskan Decepticon Bunker, Verity uses a rope to climb down into the base first.  Ratchet is against the humans putting themselves at risk for the Autobots.  Bumblebee tells the humans to watch out for Decepticon booby traps.  Hunter and Jimmy insist that they go into the bunker to help Verity.  Jimmy and Hunter descend into the bunker to help Verity.   Ratchet and Bumblebee are still uncomfortable putting humans in danger, but they need to get solid proof to give to Prowl.  While waiting above ground, Bumblebee comments that he is very bored.  Suddenly, both Autobots are bombed by Skywarp and Blitzwing.  Ratchet deduces that since the humans didn’t trip an alarm, and the Autobots didn’t trip an alarm, the two Decepticons are there to destroy the base to hide something.  Ratchet remains in vehicle mode and contacts the humans to leave the Decepticon base.  Ratchet battles Blitzwing while in vehicle mode.  He successfully fires on the Decepticon, making him crash to the ground.   Ratchet transforms to investigate, but Blitzwing transforms into tank mode and shoots Ratchet in the chest.

Blitzwing drives over Ratchet, but the Autobot medic survives.  Bumblebee rushes to see if Ratchet is okay.  Bumblebee helps Ratchet up as Blitzwing and Skywarp resume bombarding the abandoned Decepticon base from the air.  The two Autobots make it a priority to save their new human friends.  After all of the humans are secure, they ride inside of Ratchet to get to safety.  Before they can get too far, they see Megatron emerge from the wreckage and he attacks Skywarp.  The humans ask who that is.  Ratchet and Bumblebee tell the humans that they are better off not knowing.  Ratchet and Bumblebee call the Ark-19 to speak to Prowl and ask for reinforcements.

Ratchet and Bumblebee plan to take the humans back to the Ark-19.  The humans are finally facing the fact that they almost died.  Ratchet tries to calm them down and says they handled the dangerous situation very well.

Inside of the Autobot Base (under Lake Michigan), Ratchet tells Hunter, Verity, and Jimmy that he wants to bring them back to their regular lives.   Prowl has Sunstreaker and Ironhide bring the humans home.  Ratchet promises his human friends that they will get home safely.

Optimus brings Sunstreaker’s remains back to the Ark-19 and Ratchet concludes that the remains aren’t Sunstreaker.    Verity, Jimmy, and Ratchet narrow down the possible leads and realize they need to travel to get to the place that ordered the metal.  Ironhide won’t let them go unless he comes along.

Jimmy walks into Ratchet’s repair bay.  Ratchet can’t find any clues in the fake Sunstreaker’s remains.  Jimmy offers to take a look.  He looks at auto wrecks like it was an archaeological dig.  Jimmy realizes that the body was made of a rare metal that only a few places sell.  Verity wants access to the Ark-19’s computers so she can find who bought the metal.  Ratchet says he thinks he should ask Prowl about giving Verity computer access, but he decides to give it to her without getting permission from Prowl.  Verity, Jimmy, and Ratchet narrow down the possible leads and realize they need to travel to get to the place that ordered the metal.  Ironhide won’t let them go unless he comes along.

Ironhide, Ratchet, Jimmy, and Verity go to Fort Wayne Indiana to investigate a lead on the ultra light metal.  They wind up at an auto body store.  Everyone realizes that the store has way too much security for a regular store.  Ironhide detects a holomatter detector, so the Autobots can’t use their digital avatars without being detected.  Ratchet is going to use a cryogenic weapon to disable the pressure plates and security system.  Verity and Jimmy volunteer to go in, but the Autobots don’t want their human friends to be in a dangerous situation.  Ironhide knows he will regret it, but he lets Verity and Jimmy break into the store.

Ratchet and Ironhide are anxious waiting outside the auto body store.  They haven’t heard from Verity or Jimmy in almost 10 minutes.  Ironhide decides to take matters into his own “hands” and drives into the store.  Ironhide has to use his digital avatar and Ratchet tells him to hurry up.  Ratchet intercepts a police call and tells Ironhide that the police will be there soon.  Ironhide finds Jimmy and Verity unconscious and there is a bomb that has been activated.

Ratchet remains in vehicle mode, but uses his tools to get to Ironhide, Verity, and Jimmy.  He melts a hole in the floor which leads to the secret room.  Ratchet picks up on the police band that police are coming.  Ratchet tells Ironhide to get out of there, but he needs to be close to his digital avatar to get Jimmy and Verity to safety.  There is under 2 minutes left on the bomb’s timer.  Ratchet successfully burns a hole into the room where Jimmy, Verity, and Ironhide’s avatar are trapped.  Ironhide picks up the two humans and makes his avatar grow to lift them to Ratchet’s digital avatar.  Ratchet and Ironhide escape just as the building explodes.  Of course, the police arrive at that exact moment.

On the Ark-19, Ratchet receives a communication from Cybertron.  Sideswipe wants to speak to Optimus Prime to get a new assignment.  Ratchet tells him that Optimus Prime is off planet.

Ratchet guides Wheeljack and Hot Rod to recover Ironhide from a scrap yard before he is destroyed.  Prowl commands the Autobots to prepare the Ark-19 to move to a new location.  Ratchet is part of the preparations. .  The Ark-19 starts rising out of Lake Michigan and begins traveling to it’s new location.  Hardhead picks up that something is approaching them in the air.  The Autobots realize it is Sixshot.  The Ark-19 is too slow and bulky to evade the Decepticon.  Before the Autobots an open fire, Sixshot fires his weapons and the Ark-19 starts to crash onto a town.

The Ark-19 continues to fall to the ground.  The main engines are gone.  The power grid is off.  The Cloaking Device is malfunctioning.  The Autobots have fifty two seconds before the Ark-19 crashes into a town.  Optimus Prime tells Ratchet to use the maneuvering thrusters to move them a little bit.    The Autobots are able to prevent the Ark-19 from crashing into the town, but there is still a little destruction.  Also, the world now knows that they exist.   Ratchet takes Jimmy and Verity to the escape pods and leaves the Ark-19 with them.  The ship crashes into water and self destructs.

As soon as Ratchet gets out of the escape pod with Jimmy and Verity, they find themselves attacked by Sixshot in jet mode.  Ratchet transforms into vehicle mode.  Jimmy helps Verity in and tells Ratchet that she is injured.  Verity refuses to submit to her wound.  From inside of Ratchet, Ratchet deploys some medical equipment to help treat Verity.  Sixshot continues to attack Ratchet and the humans.  Ratchet tells the humans that Sixshot is a very powerful Decepticon called a Phase Sixer.  Ratchet continues to run, but he apologizes to Jimmy that they will probably die.

For a moment, Ratchet and the humans are given a reprisal.  Two US Military Jets try to engage Sixshot. Ratchet speeds away and hides in plain sight.  In the Floridian town where the Ark almost crashed, there are many ambulances providing support.  Ratchet blends in with the crowd.  Sixshot catches up with them.  In tank mode he destroys every ambulance he can see.  Sixshot transforms into wolf mode so he can track Ratchet better.  Ratchet throws Jimmy and Verity out of his ambulance mode so they can be safe.  Ratchet transforms and prepares to open fire on Sixshot.  Before he can fire, Optimus Prime and the Autobots open fire and save Ratchet.

Sixshot transforms back into robot mode to battle the Autobots. The other Autobots transform and Optimus Prime orders them to keep firing on Sixshot.  Ratchet goes to help Bumblebee.    Only the humans notice that news helicopters are recording the battle for the world to see.  Optimus knows that Sixshot will destroy Earth if the Autobots don’t stop him.  Optimus tells all of the Autobots to open fire at full strength.  Meanwhile, a military drone is watching the battle.  Nothing the Autobots do can harm Sixshot.   While Optimus Prime fights Sixshot, Nightbeat is able to teleport all of the Autobots off of the battlefield.  Unfortunately the technology was compatible with Verity and Jimmy’s human bodies.
Ratchet tries to revive Verity and Jimmy and bring them back to life.  He blames himself for allowing them to teleport without testing the teleporter first.  The device was meant only for Transformers, not organics.  Ratchet asks Jazz how long the humans have been dead for.  Jazz says over five minutes.  Ratchet worries that even if he can save them, they will be brain dead.  Ratchet shocks both humans and they start to breathe again.  Jazz tries to commend Ratchet, but he is too damaged and collapses into Ratchet’s arms.

As the Autobots travel deeper into Cybertron, Kup suggests they stop and take a break.

The Insecticon swarm starts it’s attack on the Autobots.    The Autobots flee from the Insecticon horde.  Kup tells everyone to stay close and he has something planned.  Before the battle, Kup and Perceptor hid a series of explosives.  At Kup’s command, Perceptor takes out two pistols and shoots the explosives, creating enough debris for the Autobots to get away.  Ratchet asks what happened to Drift.  Bumblebee doesn’t seem to care.  Kup tells everyone to keep the speed up because they didn’t stop the swarm, they just slowed it down.

The Autobots are loading a large weapon.  Ratchet reports to Kup that almost everyone is at full strength, but morale is at an all time low.  Ratchet and Kup agree that they need Optimus Prime back.  But Optimus is incredibly damaged.  Ratchet says he wishes he had the “old” Perceptor back because Perceptor would’ve been able to help repair Optimus.  Ratchet feels they don’t need another “clown” with a gun.  Ratchet tells Kup that Optimus may not survive (15 minutes later, Ratchet repairs him with no explanation).

The battle continues as the Autobots fight to survive.  The Autobots are about to lose, but they are saved by Omega Supreme.  Omega Supreme stomps a lot of Insecticons and then fires his blaster at them.  Optimus asks how Omega Supreme knew they needed help.  Hot Rod tells Optimus Prime that he signaled Omega.  Omega Supreme transforms into rocket mode and the Autobots escape back to Earth.

After Optimus Prime defeats Megatron, the Decepticons escape with Megatron in their possession.

Two years after the Decepticons are defeated on Earth, the Autobots are in hiding.  Ratchet remains in vehicle mode.   Ratchet stays in hiding because Skywatch is hunting them.

After Optimus Prime surrenders to Skywatch, Hot Rod plans to leave Earth.  Most of the Earthbound Autobots go with him.  Ratchet and Cliffjumper review who left.    Bumblebee gets the remaining Autobots to assemble to pick a new leader.  The remaining Autobots vote Bumblebee in as their new leader.  Almost right away, the alarms go off.  When the Autobots go outside to see what it is, they see Ultra Magnus getting out of his ship.

Ultra Magnus arrives on Earth to investigate Ironhide’s supposed death and Optimus giving up leadership of the Autobots.

Bumblebee doesn’t really want to be leader of the Autobots.  He asks if he can give it to someone else and Wheeljack says that no one else would take it.  Ratchet enters the room and tries to make Wheeljack leave.  After Wheeljack leaves, Ratchet tells Bumblebee that sometimes Wheeljack drives him crazy.  He is indispensable, but disrespectful.  Ratchet takes Bumblebee aside to boost his mood.  Bumblebee doesn’t think of himself as powerful as Optimus Prime, but Ratchet says that it is easy to be brave when you’re as big as Optimus Prime.   Bumblebee, Hound, and Ratchet go into the desert to meet with Horiuchi.   The men are standing next to a big box and the Autobots are wary that it is a trap.  Bumblebee transforms and goes to Horiuchi alone.  Horiuchi wants to test out the Autobots to capture Skywarp, who recently killed a lot of humans.  The Autobots capture 6 Decepticons.  When they contact Horiuchi, he wants the Autobots to capture Blurr.  Cliffjumper wont attack a friend and they try to explain to Horiuchi that Blurr is a good guy.  Horiuchi activates a disruptor in Cliffjumper’s badge and forces him to revert to vehicle mode.  Horiuchi explains that the Autobots are under his control.

While Bumblebee and several other Autobots are trying to capture Blurr, Blurr shoots Bumblebee.  Ratchet goes to Bumblebee’s side to see that he is okay.  Blurr is captured.   Bumblebee addresses all of the Autobots but knows they can’t respond because of the Skywatch badges.  He promises that he will free the Autobots from Skywatch control.

Ratchet greets Horiuchi and Lt. Klonowksi when they come to the Autobase.  Ratchet explains that Bumblebee is still not able to transform and has been deactivated (which is a lie!).  Klonowski brings a new badge to the fake Bumblebee.  Horiuchi tells Ratchet that he appreciates what the Autobots have done for him, and leads him on saying that they may go public saying that the Autobots are the good guys.  He also tells Ratchet that maybe the US Government will give the Autobots some land so they can make a sovereign nation.  Ratchet feels that would just be a prison.  Since the car isn’t really Bumblebee, Horiuchi and Klonowski  are unable to get him to turn back into robot mode.  Horiuchi tells Ratchet that it is his responsibility to repair Bumblebee.

Ratchet addresses the Autobots as the appointed leader of the Autobots.  Ratchet knows that Skywatch is listening and the Autobots make Skywatch think that they are going to apprehend Red Alert, Skywarp, Prowl, and Hot Rod.  Bumblebee sends Ratchet the schematics of the control board.  Ratchet texts Bumblebee and says that there is a tracking device in the board and he can’t return to the Autobase with it.  Bumblebee says he will try to disable it, but Ratchet says it is too complicated for Bumblebee.  Ratchet talks Bumblebee through disabling the tracking device.  Wheeljack doesn’t think Bumblebee can do it.  Ratchet convinces Wheeljack to have faith in Bumblebee, and Wheeljack starts to walk Bumblebee through the process.

After Bumblebee uses the board, all of the badges on the Autobots are deactivated.  Wheeljack and Ratchet rebuild Bumblebee with more armor and more weapons.

Under Ultra Magnus’ command, an Autobot strike force goes to Rodimus’ spacecraft.    When Ultra Magnus comes to the rocket site, Swindle betrays the partnership with Rodimus’ Autobots and reveals Menasor.

(the following section is about the IDW Infestation storyline, it is unknown if this is canon or not since there are many continuity errors)

Optimus Prime, Prowl, Kup, Bumblebee, and Drift arrive to face off against the three evil Transformers (Remember, in IDW, Galvatron and his forces are NOT Decepticons)  Bumblebee offers Galvatron the opportunity to surrender and Ratchet is impressed with how assertive Bumblebee is.

Bumblebee, Blurr, Ratchet, and Jetfire willingly go to the Skywatch base to start a joint operation.  The alliance is shaky but it is getting stronger all the time.  They are welcomed by Spike Witwicky.

The Autobots are given amnesty if they stay in the Skywatch base.  Inside the base, Ratchet does simple repairs on Cliffjumper.  Cliffjumper thinks that Hot Rod made the wrong choice in leaving Earth because now the Autobots aren’t being hunted.   Spike joins the Autobots and says he needs to speak to the leader.  Cliffjumper says that Bumblebee is right there.  Spike says he wants to speak with Optimus Prime.  Spike briefs all of the Autobots and explains (again) that the Combaticons are working with North Korea.  Spike tells Bumblebee and Optimus that the Combaticons are too powerful for Skywatch to fight.  Bumblebee quickly agrees with Spike and forms a team to battle the Combaticons.  Before the Autobots leave to fight the Combaticons, they watch the President address the nation.  The President says that any nation harboring Cybertronians will be dealt with accordingly.  Spike doesn’t acknowledge the orders and takes the Autobots to North Korea.

The Autobots are shipped to South Korea in a cargo ship.  They remain in vehicle mode so they won’t cause an international incident.  When the coast is clear, the Autobots emerge from their shipping containers.  The Autobots go inside of a hangar and Spike tells them that no matter what, they have to stay in vehicle mode.  If it gets out that the US is harboring the Autobots, the President will be Impeached (he doesn’t know about the clandestine arrangement), Spike will be arrested, and the Autobots will be deactivated.  Spike brings Skywatch weapons for the Autobots.   The battle doesn’t go well for the Autobots.  Broadside and Jetfire are significantly damaged and Ratchet says it will take at least a week to repair them.

The Autobots go to where the Combaticons are hiding.  Suddenly, smoke fills the room and Optimus Prime drives into the room and slams into Vortex. Skywatch mechs hold down Vortex while Ratchet cuts off his rotors so he can’t escape. Cosmos disables spy satellites above North Korea so the Autobots can fight in robot mode. Vortex is able to get free before Ratchet cuts his rotors off and he tries to fly away.  Thundercracker flies into Vortex and Vortex crashes.  Prowl and Jazz attack Brawl who is in tank mode.  Before the battle can continue, the Predacons show up because the battle is getting too close to China, who they have pledged allegiance to.

The Autobots and Predacons battle.  The Predacons retreat when they learn that Russia has sent nuclear missiles to attack them.  After the battle, Ratchet asks what the fate of the Autobots will be.  Prowl says it is in the hands of the humans.

The Autobots and Skywatch agents survive Megatron’s attack on their plane.  When it gets dark, they emerge from water.

Megatron contacts Optimus Prime and his group of Autobots (and Skywatch agents!).  Megatron tells Optimus that he has abducted the other Earthbound Autobots in a communication.  Megatron knows that Optimus and the Autobots are already on their way to save their friends.  Megatron wants to destroy Optimus Prime and Earth.  Skywatch tracks the transmission to New Mexico.  The Autobots and Skywatch agents prepare to attack the Decepticons.  The Autobots transform and drive to save their friends.  Smokescreen scouts ahead for Optimus Prime.  As the Autobots get close, Optimus Prime tells them they should travel the rest of the way on foot.  Megatron points to the nearby city and says that there are 46 humans in the city armed with Decepticon weaponry made from his old body.  Megatron then says that there are hundreds of weapons across Earth and Optimus will never be able to find all of them.    Megatron then surprises Optimus by telling him that the captured Autobots are in the city.  Megatron’s plan is to discredit the Autobots since the Autobots would have to kill humans to save their friends.  Optimus Prime wants Skywatch to find the captured Autobots.

Optimus Prime goes to Ratchet for an update on the Autobot repairs.  Specifically, Optimus Prime asks Ratchet if Jetfire is cleared for duty.  Ratchet says he is repaired, but he shouldn’t go into combat for a while.  Optimus Prime says that he has other plans and needs Jetfire to go to Earth’s orbit.

Ratchet tries to repair Bumblebee’s leg, but he just doesn’t have the right parts.  Ratchet apologizes and Bumblebee is forced to use a cane until Ratchet can fabricate the right parts.  Bumblebee is just happy to be able to stand again.

On the trip back to Cybertron, Ratchet and Perceptor examine Megatron to see if he has any hidden weapons.  Ratchet wishes they could just dissect Megatron.  Optimus speaks to Ratchet.  Optimus Prime is shaken that he resorted to torturing Megatron and that he almost killed him.  Optimus Prime is starting to doubt himself.  Ratchet suggests that he asks the Matrix what to do.  The lines of what choices Optimus is making or the matrix is making is starting to blur.

As the Kimia Outpost arrives in Cybertron’s orbit, it deploys its main cannon to attack the surface.  All of the Autobots dive to cover. Ultimately, Megatron gets free from Omega Supreme, gives himself new armor, and saves the Autobots from Galvatron.

The Autobots watch as an enhanced Megatron battles the Sweeps (successfully).  Ratchet isn’t surprised that Megatron escaped.  The Decepticons who were on Earth join the fight with the Autobots.   When the Constructicons merge into Devestator, it turns the tide of the battle. Red Alert wants the Autobots to fall back to Omega Supreme.  Sunstreaker tells the Autobots that Omega Supreme is not in any condition to protect them.  Suddenly, all of the Decepticons go into a trance and stop fighting.  All of the Decepticons and all of Galvatron’s forces merge into a massive monster.  The Deceptigod known as D-Void.

(To be continued)

Ratchet was a talented mechanic, but NOT a doctor for organic life forms. He had a wide array of unique tools used for repair. In vehicle mode, he was able to deploy claws to bring a damaged Autobot inside of him.
