Siege Prowl Toy Review

Commentary-

Prowl was one of those characters who really shined in the comics (both Marvel and IDW), but he was very bland in the cartoon. I had CHUG Prowl, but it never really worked for me. Siege Prowl was part of the 2nd wave (I think) and spawned 1 redeco and 2 retools in Siege and 3 retools in Earthrise.

Bot Mode-

The sculpting of Prowl is really good. I do have a stupid problem with him that most people won't. If you've explored the website, you'll notice I do a lot of digital art. For some weird reason, pictures with Prowl don't turn out as well as other pics. I know why, I use a white lightbox to take the pics and prowl is mainly white. Other than that, Prowl is a really fun figure. He really looks like his G1 version, but has enough Cybertronian to really make him feel unique. He is primarily white, with some black and red. His lower legs have light blue almost clear plastic which makes up the rear of the vehicle mode. One of Prowl's signature things is the doors on his shoulder. This figure does that very well. He has 5mm ports for closed hands, his head is sculpted well and has good movement. His arms have bicep swivel and elbow bend. His waist can rotate. His legs can do a split and a front kick and there is a lot of bend at the knee. Like all Siege (and Earthrise figures) there are 5mm ports throughout the figure for weaponizers. He also has 3mm pegs for blast effects. For the most part, a successful figure.

Transformation-

Prowl's transformation is pretty straight forward. I had to watch a video for the first time but everytime after that, I was able to do it on my own. For complexity, I rate his transformation a 6.5 out of 10. For fun, a 7.75 out of 10.

Vehicle Mode-

Prowl is a Cybertronian police car, which is interesting. He looks more futuristic (just read about my views on Cybertronian vs Futuristic in other reviews) but it is a fun vehicle mode. He is primarily white and black with a clear blue plastic cockpit and clear blue plastic wheels. I don't love the wheels, I would've rather had black wheels. He has cybertronian letters on the doors, but I've never translated it. The lightbar on the hood is removable and it can be replaced with nothing or the blaster for robot mode. He pegs/tabs together well and rolls well.

Accessories-

Prowl comes with 2 accessories. A blaster and a lightbar for vehicle mode. Unlike Red Alert, you can't connect the two pieces to form an Axe. You can connect the pieces, but it won't work as an axe.

3rd Party Add Ons-

Ratchet Studios made new thighs which can make Prowl taller. This inhibits transformation so I will not be getting this

Matrix Workshop made shoulder blasters and a classic blaster for Prowl.

Pros-

Fun figure. He can combine with weaponizers which is a nice touch and it doesn't take away from the figure itself.

Cons-

the paint job is a little boring and needs some details. I don't like how the lightbar and gun can't form an axe

What would Seth have done?

I would've added some silver, especially in the face. I would've made the figure a little off white instead of bright white. Made the gun either silver or black (I could do that myself down the road with some spray paint)

Grade-

Prowl is a fun figure, but I can totally understand if you plan on getting Earthrise Prowl instead of Siege Prowl. I have Siege and I already preordered Earthrise. Basically Siege is going to go in my "Pre-Earth" display. Not a perfect figure, but far from not perfect. He gets a 6.75 out of 10

American Retools and Repaints-

Siege Bluestreak (straight redeco)

Siege Smokescreen (new head)

Siege Barricade (redeco of Smokescreen)

Earthrise Prowl (heavy retool)

Earthrise Smokescreen (Heavy retool)

Earthrise Bluestreak (heavy retool)
