Siege Red Alert Toy Review

Commentary-

Normally, I don't love getting multiple of the same mold, but I make the exception when a character in whatever media it is has the same basic design of another figure. So Stinger and KSI Sentry, the Datsus, the seekers. You get the idea. Also, Red Alert has a distinction of having an entire episode of G1 about him and his unique mental problems. Red Alert is a straight repaint with a slightly different set of accessories from Siege Sideswipe (click here to read that review). Is this mold worthy of having 3, almost identical figures?

Bot Mode-

Red Alert looks really good in robot mode, but there is one problem with him (I'll get to it soon). His chest and shoulders are white with a Cybertronian design for a fire fighter on his chest. He also has a thick red line on his chest. His lower arms and upper legs are white. He has black hands, and shins. He has the "Siege Dirt" but again, that doesn't really bother me at all. Red Alert has significantly less "siege dirt" on him than other figures. Its mainly on his blac shins. Like all Siege figures, there are a number of 5mm ports throughout his body which you can plug weaponizers into. He has basically the same articulation as every other Siege deluxe. He doesn't have wrist swivel due to transformation. Now here's my small grip with Red Alert. His head is just a little too low, it should be just a little higher because at some angles, his face is obscured by his chest. Other than that one issue, he's a really good figure There is no backpack and there isn't too much vehicle mode kibble in robot mode.

Transformation-

I really like Red Alert's transformation. It's a bit simple, but it is intuative and fun. For fun, I rate it a 7.25 out of 10. For complexity, I rate it a 5.25

Vehicle Mode-

If you've read any review that I've written for Siege figures, you'll know that to me, Siege doesn't look Cybertronian, it looks like a futuristic Earth (and yes there are differences, at least to me). But Red Alert's vehicle mode is AMAZEBALLS. I really think that he has one of my favorite vehicle modes in Siege. He is a red and white car with black details. The windows are a smokey clear black which is very dramatic and stunning. He has black tires with silver rims. This looks like a car you would see in Blade Runner. It pegs together very well and rolls very well. There is a port on the roof which you can plug a weapon into. Red Alert comes with a light bar which resembles an Earth emergency vehicle's lights

Accessories-

Red Alert comes with the gun that came with Siege Prowl. You can clip the light bar onto the gun to make it an axe. Honestly, I use a gun from Shapeways for Red Alert instead of his regular weapons.

3rd Party Add Ons-

There are A LOT of add on kits for Sideswipe from a few different people (I am only going to discuss the upgrade kits specifically for Sideswipe, not the other two redecos).

Matrix Workshop made a set which comes with two blasters. It looks great, but honestly, I am satisfied enough with the weapons he came with where I don't plan to get it

Shockwave Lab made gap fillers. Again, if you've read my other reviews, you'll know I never get gap fillers, so I won't be reviewing that set.

Nonnef made a jetpack for Sideswipe. I got it, but I lost it so in the near future, I am going to get another one so I can review it.

Nonnef also made another weapons pack. On the fence i I am going to get it. Nothing against the set, it's really cool looking, I am just satisfied with the weapons that Sideswipe came with.

Pros-

In my top 3 of favorite vehicle modes in Siege. Good articulation. A much needed update to Red Alert

Cons-

The head is too low on the neck.

Grade-

I like Red Alert a lt, but he isn't my favorite figure in Siege, mainly because of the issue with the head. If his head was just a quarter of an inch higher, he would be perfect. Red Alert is a really fun figure but I don't see him as being my absolute best Red Alert. If Hastak came out with an Earth Vehicle Red Alert, I would probably retire Siege Red Alert. I suggest you get him if you don't have him. I rate Siege Sideswipe a 7.75 out of 10.
