Titans Return Chromedome Toy Review

Class - Legends

Commentary-

For a long time, Transformers have been reliant on gimmicks. Some are more intrusive than others, but even as a kid in the 80s, Headmasters were something that I liked a lot. Titans Return came out right as I was restarting my collection. I actually had the G1 headmasters and thought those would be fine. Well, I was wrong, I've gotten rid of all of my G1 since then. Also, my buddies Tyke and Darth_Ennis got me into IDW. IDW really made me a fan of Chromedome.

Bot Mode-

By the time Titans Return started, a lot of us had a lot of mold fatigue from Combiner Wars. It was very refreshing to get a brand new mold, and Chromedome is a brand new mold. Chromedome isn't the perfect Transformer figure, but he I really think he is the perfect Chromedome. HE has all of the elements of the G1 figure (sorry, not the IDW) but every little detail is improved upon. Yes, CHromedome is a Headmaster/Titan Master. But he is meant to be! So his head transforms into a little robot. CHromedome's arms are tan, his chest is brown with red. He has an Autobot logo on his chest and there is just enough silver details where the figure pops. His crotch is red, his upper legs are brown, and his lower legs are tan. There is a bit of silver and even less blue on the thighs. His arms can move up and down and in and out, but his shoulders are a bit high so a little bit of motion is held back. He has waist swivel. His head is kind of on a balljoint, but his upward and downward movement is restricted due to construction. His head can turn left and right though. His legs can move outwards and forwards and has good knee bend. He has bicep swivel and elbow bend. His hands are 5mm.

Transformation-

Chromedome has pretty typical transformation for a deluxe figure. It isn't too hard, but at the same time it has a good pay off. For complexity, I rate Chromedome's transformation a 6 out of 10. For fun, a 7.25 out of 10

Vehicle Mode-

Chromedome is a futuristic car in vehicle mode. It looks good, nothing crazy our out of the ordinary. But you don't always need a figure to be the best ever to enjoy it. I enjoy Chromedome for what he is and he is a well made figure. The vehicle mode is primarily tan and brown with black wheels and a clear cockpit. There is a little bit of red throughout the vehicle mode. It holds together well, rolls well, and there is no significant robot kibble.

Accessories-

Chromedome comes with the stupid chair gun that most Deluxes come with which I hate and threw out. He also came with a red blaster which is the same blaster that came with Blurr, Brainstorm, and Nautica (but in red not colors resembling the other figures). Also, his head is a headmaster/titan master named Stylor and can turn into a little person/robot

3rd Party Add Ons-

Renderform made a really good upgrade kit for the 4 canon Titans Return headmasters. See review HERE

Pros-

Good figure for the price. Lots of fun.

Cons-

the shoulders hold back a little movement

What would Seth do differently?

Honestly, the figure is pretty good on its own and I wouldn't change anything.

Grade-

Honestly, I really like this figure. While it isn't my favorite figure of all time, it is a figure which I like a lot and would spread the word to get. I rate Titans Return Chromedome a 7.25 out of 10. There is an MMC Chromedome coming out which is very IDW. I think it looks great, but because of this figure, I will probably be skipping that Chromedome.

Retools and Repaints-

Titans Return Getaway/Breakaway (retool)

Takara Legends Chromedome (redeco in Japan)
