Commentary-

I don't know why, but Season 3 is my favorite season of G1. I felt that it was just a bit more serious than the other seasons for the most part. Scourge was a major part of Season 3. He was introduced in Transformers the movie and had a legion of soldiers called the sweeps. Titans Return is not the first "modern" Scourge, nor will he be the last (rumored that he is getting a voyager figure in Kingdom). The CHUG Scourge... honestly, don't like it that much but I do have one that I use as a Sweep (I was thinking of getting at least 1 or 3 more but I'm not ever going to get another CHUG Scourge). Titans Return Scourge was one of the first TR figures revealed and I knew I had to get him when I first saw him. Like all deluxe and bigger Titans Return figures, Scourge is a Headmaster/Titan Master.

Bot Mode-

So Scourge is actually a heavy retool of Highbrow, but it is more of an engineering thing than an actual retool. The first thing you notice about Scourge is, he looks really screen accurate. Also, he is blue. Really really blue. Almost all of his body is a royal blue. He has light blue "wings" and some silver stickers. I would've liked to have seen just a little more light blue, but that's a nitpick. Scourge's head is removable and can turn into a Titan Master, which is okay... I guess.. but canonically he isn't a Head/Titan Master. Considering it really isn't that intrusive of a gimmick, I don't really mind. One small flaw is (and I am not sure if it is my copy or all of them) but there is a pipe on the top of the robot mode which you are meant to lift up to complete transformation. Mine sags down all the time on it's own. Again, not sure if that is an engineering issue or if it is just a QC issue on mine. Scourge has good movement at the shoulders (Up and down and in and out). He has bicep swivel, elbow bend. His hands are closed 5mm hands. His legs have thigh swivel and knee bend. THere is a bit of vehicle mood kibble on the lower legs. All in all, a very successful robot mode.

Transformation-

Scourge's transformation is a bit unique but not out of left field. It is pretty fun and just complex enough where it isn't boring at all. For complexity, I rate it a 6.75 out of 10. For fun a 7 out of 10.

Vehicle Mode-

Honestly, I don't know what you can classify Scourge's vehicle mode as. In the cartoon it was a flying thing. There was some mention of a hovercraft??? Either way, whatever Scourge's vehicle mode is in the cartoons, the toy looks a lot like it, but a little more stylized in a good way. He changes his main color to be primarily light blue and his weapon plugs into the vehicle mode. There is a bit of silver painted details on the vehicle mode and a place for the Titan master. He pegs together well and looks screen accurate.

Accessories-

Scourge DOES come with the weird Chair/Gun thing that almost every other Titans Return figure comes with, but I lost that accessory within hours of getting the figure. And when I saw lost, I threw it in the garbage. He comes with a blaster which looks like the missile which went on the head of the G1 figure. It is a blue blaster and it looks fine. It isn't one of those accessories that I say "holy crap I want a bunch of them!", but it works for this specific figure. Also, his head turns into a little dude.

3rd Party Add Ons-

Not an official 3rd party add on, but Mastershooter Collectables made a set of Targetmasters for CHUG figures, one of which was meant to be Scourge's, but this came out years before Titans return. It really makes the figure a lot better.

Pros-

A pretty good representation of Scourge. Fun to transform. Also, has good kid value.

Cons-

None really

Grade-

Scourge is a good figure. Honestly, if the rumors for Kingdom are true and he is getting a voyager figure, he's going to have to be really good for me to want to replace this Scourge with it. If the rumor is true, I probably will get Scourge since Cyclonus will also be a voyager and I want them to be the same size. I do see myself competely replacing my CHUG scourge with one more TR Scourge to be my legion of sweeps. Some people dislike when non headmaster characters are made as headmasters, but this doesn't really bother me. I find a lot of other gimmicks a lot more intrusive. I rate him 8.5 out of 10

Retools and Repaints-

Takara Legends Scourge (same figure with different paint scheme) (I do not have this figure nor do I plan on it)

Titans Return Highbrow (shares engineering)
