G1 Cartoon

Wheeljack was actually the first Transformer to be shown in the cartoon.  He and Bumblebee were sent by Optimus Prime to steal energy conductors from the Decepticons.  They were successful, but Wheeljack was worried that the energy won’t last very long.  Wheeljack then transforms into his Cybertronian vehicle mode (one of the few we actually see) and Bumblebee loads the conductors into him.  They make their way to Iacon, but are intercepted by Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp.  Wheeljack armors himself and holds his ground against the Decepticons after Bumblebee fires on them.  An unnamed Decepticon fires on the Autobots with a flamethrower, surrounding them in a ring of fire.  Wheeljack uses fans to make a whole in the ring of fire and plows through the Decepticons.  Bumblebee follows in vehicle mode.  The Decepticons follow and injure Bumblebee.  Wheeljack slows down so Bumblebee can enter Wheeljack.  The two Autobots evade the Decepticons and make their way back to the Autobot base.  Wheeljack joins Optimus Prime and the Autobots on the Ark to search for a new source of energy.  The Decepticons attack and the Autobots and Decepticons crash onto Earth.  They are stuck in stasis lock for millions of years.  After being reactivated, Wheeljack is part of the first big mission of the Autobots.  To defend Earth against the Decepticons.  The Autobots track the Decepticons to an off shore oil platform.  Once they arrive, the Decepticons attack.  After a brief battle, Megatron damages the oil rig and retreats with the Decepticons.

In the aftermath of the oil rig collapsing, Wheeljack helps Trailbreaker put out the fires by using a fire extinguisher attachment in his arm.  The workers are saved and the Autobots return to the Ark.  They soon go to Sherman Dam to protect it from the Decepticons.  When the Autobots ascend on the ruby crystal mines of Burma, Wheeljack gives Sparkplug and Bumblebee an explosive device which he created.  It was needed to destroy the Decepticons.  The explosives go off but the Decepticons escape capture.
Wheeljack is part of the unsuccessful trap that Optimus Prime and Hound make for the Decepticons.  Hound makes a holographic rocket base  and the Autobots try to ambush the Decepticons.  Megatron saw through this and only sent fake Decepticons to occupy the Autobots.  While the Autobots were trying to ambush the Decepticons, they were at a different site getting the energy they required.

The Decepticons now have the Energon that they need to return to Cybertron.  Megatron plans to conquer Cybertron when they reach the planet.  Optimus Prime plans an assault on the Decepticon Starship.  Wheeljack, like the rest of the Autobots, volunteers to be part of the mission to stop the Decepticons.  The Autobots arrive at the same time that the Decepticons entering their ship.  The Autobots overpower the Decepticons, causing them to retreat into their spaceship.  Mirage causes the spaceship to crash and the Autobots achieve their first victory on Earth.

After the Decepticons acquire Chip Chase’s formula for Anti Matter, Wheeljack works with Chip to make a plan to stop the Decepticons.  Together, Wheeljack and Chip make a device which is able to gain control of a Decepticon.  When Skywarp is using Megatron as a weapon, Chip plants Wheeljack’s device on Skywarp and Teletran 1 gains control of Skywarp.  Skywarp is forced to attack the Decepticons.  The device also taints the Anti Matter Energon cubes, foiling the Decepticons.
Wheeljack helps defend a munitions factory from the Decepticons.  The factory is making weapons for the humans to fight the Decepticons with.  The Autobots reach the factory too late.  The battle is over and Optimus Prime is severely damaged.  The Autobots return back to the Ark so Wheeljack can repair Optimus.  Wheeljack and Ratchet do everything they can to repair their leader.  While they are working on Optimus, they are surprised that he is functioning.  Before they can make any significant headway, Laserbeak flies into the repair bay and fires his lasers at Optimus. Laserbeak inflicts more damage on the fallen Autobot leader.Despite the fact that he is still functioning, Optimus Prime is loosing energy fast.  Optimus Prime needs a part called a cosmotron.  Luckily, Wheeljack has one, but it is in his lab on Cybertron (at least he did 4 million years ago, but of course, no one would’ve gone in there for 4 million years).  Ironhide, Trailbreaker, Bumblebee, Bluestreak, and Chip go to Cybertron to get the cosmotron.  While they are on Cybertron, all of the Decepticons attack the Autobot headquarters..  Wheeljack and Ratchet stay behind to protect Optimus while the other Autobots defend their base.
The Autobots discover dinosaur bones in a cavern where the Ark crashed.  This inspires Wheeljack to create the Dinobots.  When the Dinobots are activated, they attack the Autobot because their brains aren’t powerful enough.  Optimus Prime orders the Autobots to deactivate the Dinobots by force.  Wheeljack tries to save his creations and uses a magnetic blast to incapacitate them.  Wheeljack implores Optimus not to destroy the Dinobots.  They remain deactivated and sent into a storage room.  While the Autobots are on a mission, Wheeljack stays behind to create new brains for the Dinobots.  The Decepticons defeat the Autobots, and Wheeljack is forced to use the new memory modules to upgrade the Dinobots’ brains so they can save the fallen Autobots.  Wheeljack flies to the dam with Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge to save the Autobots.  The Dinobots attack the Decepticons, and Wheeljack fires on Megatron with his shoulder blaster.  While the Dinobots are fighting the Decepticons, Wheeljack frees the captured Autobots.

Wheeljack and Sideswipe go to the Arctic to rescue Skyfire from his frozen tomb. The two Autobots dig him out, and then Wheeljack thaws the block of ice with his shoulder cannon.  Wheeljack sends Skyfire to the Autobots base to pick up Brawn and Windcharger.  The Autobots learned of Decepticon activity in the Andes.  Wheeljack and the Autobots travel inside of Skyfire to Peru.  They want to stop the Decepticons from turning a powerful energy crystal into a weapon.  They make their way to a mining village which Megatron is attacking to get raw materials to build a cannon for the crystal.    While escaping, Megatron fires on a mountain, causing an avalanche to occupy the Autobots.  The Autobots save the village and all of its inhabitants from the avalanche..   As the Autobots approach the Decepticon temple, Megatron fires his new cannon at them. He destroys a hill which covers the Autobots with rocks.  The Autobots dig themselves out and continue their mission.  The Decepticons are defeated and the cannon is destroyed.  Wheeljack creates a device to replace the crystal which was containing a stream of energy.

Wheeljack and the Autobots respond to Chip’s call for help.  Chip discovers a meteor that is racing towards Earth and will crash.  Wheeljack and the Autobots go to an observatory to see how they can help. Chip explains to the Autobots that the meteor contains a significant amount of energy inside of it.  The Autobots want to prevent the Decepticons from acquiring it.  Chip gives the Autobots the projected coordinates of where the meteor will crash and the Autobots take the Dinobots to help them recover the meteor before the Decepticons can claim it.  Optimus Prime gives a piece of the meteor to Wheeljack to study.  Optimus Prime is so pleased with how the Dinobots are performing, so he asks Wheeljack and Ratchet to build two more Dinobots so  Snarl and Swoop are created.  Wheeljack studies the meteor fragment and discovers it is unstable.  He is worried that it will explode at any time and asks Trailbreaker to put a force field around it.  The meteor then explodes, but the force field protected the Autobots.  Optimus Prime leaves the base to destroy the main meteor before it endangers the Earth.  Ratchet and Wheeljack have Prowl, Bluestreak, Sideswipe, and Ironhide test the new Dinobots.  After a successful test, the new Dinobots are accepted as Autobots.  Wheeljack uses Teletran 1 to locate the missing meteor.  He sends Swoop and Snarl to get it before it explodes.
When the Autobots need to travel to India, Wheeljack creates hydrofoils for the Autobots vehicle modes.  The Autobots have a short battle with the Decepticons in India, but it was all a ruse.  The Decepticons wanted to get the Autobots out of their headquarters so Laserbeak could abduct Sparkplug.   Wheeljack and several Autobots swim in the ocean to the Decepticon base to rescue their human friend.  As they get closer to the Decepticon headquarters, the Decepticons engage the Autobots in battle. Sparkplug is rescued and the Autobots return to their headquarters.  Sparkplug appears to be instrumental in repairing Wheeljack’s battle damage. .  Before the Autobots can catch their breath, Megatron leads all of the Decepticons to attack the Autobots…again….  Sparkplug turned Teletran 1 off and in doing so, all of the Autobot defenses.  Since Sparkplug was working on “repairing” the Autobots who saved him, the Autobots and their weapons start to malfunction and misfire.  Before Megatron can destroy the Autobots, Spike quickly repairs Teletran 1 and activates the Autobot defenses.  After Ratchet fully restores Teletran 1, the Autobots learn that the Decepticons have constructed an enormous Space Bridge.  Wheeljack follows the Autobots when they go to the Space Bridge.  Instead of the Decepticons attacking, Megatron and Dr. Arkeville order the mind controlled humans to attack the Autobots.  They know that the Autobots won’t fight a human.

The Decepticons are victorious when they activate the Space Bridge.  The Space Bridge brings Cybertron to Earth and causes natural disasters across the globe.  The world is falling apart because of the natural disasters caused by Cybertron’s gravitational pull.  Wheeljack and Optimus Prime send the Dinobots to help prevent damage.  Spike learns that Sparkplug is on Cybertron and he wants to take Skyfire to try to save his father.    Wheeljack , Brawn and Bumblebee offer to protect Spike on his mission.  Wheeljack hopes that he can learn how to restore the human slaves’ minds.

On Cybertron, Wheeljack, Skyfire and Trailbreaker save Spike, Bumblebee, and Brawn from capture.  The Autobots transform and Spike rides inside of Wheeljack as they escape.  Skyfire stays behind to provide air cover and the Autobots’ escape.  The Autobots travel through Cybertron, but they are attacked by Decepticon weapons and a few Decepticon Tetrajets.  Even though Skyfire shoots the Tetrajets down, Wheeljack and the Autobots are followed by two Decepticon drones.  Wheeljack suggests that the Autobots go to his Lab to hide.  Skyfire draws the drones away so the other Autobots can escape.  Bumblebee gives Wheeljack a disc he found at the Decepticon base.  Wheeljack learns about the functionality of hypnochips from the disc.  Wheeljack creates a device which he hopes will reverse the hypnochips.  Wheeljack plans to test his invention on Sparkplug.  The Autobots use Spike as bait to draw out Sparkplug.  Wheeljack activates the device and restores Sparkplug’s mind.  The Autobots fight their way out of the Decepticon base and escape back to Earth inside of Skyfire.  They arrive on a tropical island and Wheeljack uses his device to liberate the slaves. Then Wheeljack helps the Autobots defeat the Decepticons.  Earth is saved from destruction and the Autobots assume that Megatron is dead

Now that Cybertron is out of Earth’s orbit, the Autobots focus on repairing Earth.  Wheeljack manages the Dinobots as they help rebuild.
Wheeljack and a few Autobots travel to Bali to investigate an Insecticon attack.  They arrive to provide back up just as the Decepticons and Insecticons are joining forces.  Once the Autobots start attacking the Decepticons and Insecticons, they fly into the air to get away.  During the battle, Skyfire’s transformation cog was damaged.  Wheeljack repairs it after the Decepticons escape.  The Autobots see Skyfire under Insecticon attack.  Wheeljack flies into the air and shoots Bombshell and Shrapnel.  Kickback knocks Wheeljack out of the sky, but Optimus catches him.  The Autobots track the Insecticons and Decepticons to an oil refinery.  When the Autobots arrive, they fight the Decepticons.  Shrapnel fires a shrapnel grenade at Optimus Prime, Brawn, and Wheeljack.  They dive into the water to avoid damage.  The oil in the water catches fire when Thundercracker shoots the water. Shrapnel forces Wheeljack and Trailbreaker to the ground with an energy blast.  After Bumblebee shows the Autobots that their tires in vehicle mode will protect them, Wheeljack rides Sunstreaker to attack Shrapnel.  He damages the Insecticon with his shoulder blaster.  The battle ends when the Insecticons betray the Decepticons and steal their Energon Cubes.

When Megatron flies to the Autobot base alone, Wheeljack attempts to attack the Decepticon with a shockblast cannon.  The cannon backfires and knocks Wheeljack down.  Megatron challenges Optimus to a one on one battle.  When it is time for the battle, Wheeljack is an observer.  After Optimus Prime is defeated in battle Wheeljack and Ratchet repair Optimus Prime.

When Sparkplug creates Autobot X, Wheeljack quickly decides he wants to improve it’s looks.  Autobot X goes crazy and starts smashing equipment in the Ark.  It is soon deactivated, but Wheeljack has a new idea.  He wants to keep Autobot X in storage in case another Autobot is damaged.  He then will attempt to put that Autobot’s mind into Autobot X.  This theory is practiced when Spike is severely injured and in a coma.  They transfer his mind into Autobot X.  Autobot Spike has trouble thinking and has violent tendencies.  He is manipulated by Megatron to join the Decepticons.  While Autobot Spike is attacking Optimus Prime, Wheeljack brings Sparkplug to help calm Autobot Spike down.  Ultimately, Autobot Spike attacks the Decepticons and they retreat.  Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Sparkplug restore Spike’s mind to his human body.

Wheeljack continues to invent, some work, some don’t.  His newest invention is called The Immobilizer.  Wheeljack tries to test it using a hologram of Laserbeak that Hound created.   Ironhide walks into the laboratory and thinks that it is really Laserbeak and starts firing.  Rocks from the ceiling start falling and Wheeljack shields the Immobilizer with his body.  Wheeljack is buried in rocks, but Ironhide digs him out.  Despite Wheeljack’s attempt to shield the Immobilizer, it is damaged.  Wheeljack sends Bumblebee and Spike to a nearby town to get a replacement part.  When Spike and Bumblebee return to the Ark, they give Wheeljack the new part and he prepares to test the invention.  Wheeljack and the Autobots go into the forest to test the device.  He tests the Immobilizer on a waterfall, it is successfully freezes the waterfall.   Spike accidentally steps on the remote control of the device and it starts to target him.  Wheeljack gets him out of harms way, but is hit by the beam of the Immobilizer.  Wheeljack is completely immobilized.  No one knows how to unfreeze him because Wheeljack was the only one who knew how to operate the device.  After The Decepticons attack and steal the Immobilize, the Autobots take Wheeljack back to their headquarters, and the effects of the Immobilizer wear off on their own.  Wheeljack joins the Autobots when they seek out the Decepticons to recover the Immobilizer.

The Autobots start to get irritated by the clumsy Dinobots.  Wheeljack tries to teach them finesse.  At first, Grimlock is able to fine tune his laser breath enough to turn on Blaster in boom box mode.  When the other Dinobots join, they unintentionally damage the Autobot base.  The Dinobots are exiled to Dinobot Island and the Autobots work on repairs.  After Teletran 1 is reactivated, Wheeljack notices time portals opening up.

Wheeljack’s newest invention is a series of security updates for the Ark.  Wheeljack and the Autobots work to install the upgrades.  The Autobots are asked to go to Japan to guard a new robot.  Wheeljack and Ratchet make a lot of disparaging remarks about the technological levels of humans.  They don’t think the robot will be able to hold a candle to the Autobots.  Optimus Prime reprimand the two Autobots for not being respectful.  Wheeljack and Ratchet are shocked when Nightbird is revealed.  A fully functional female ninja robot.  The Decepticons show up and steal Nightbird.

When a gold mine is being attacked by Decepticons, Optimus Prime sounds the alarm to rally the Autobots.   The Autobots transform and head to the mine to fight the Decepticons.  . The battle comes to an abrupt end when the Decepticons abduct Gears and fly away.  The Decepticons have activated a machine which creates solar flares and is damaging the planet by creating earthquakes.  The Autobots travel to Africa to stop the Decepticons, save the Earth, and save Gears.  While they travel through the African jungle, the Autobots have to jump over a chasm in vehicle mode.  All of the Autobots make the jump, but Bumblebee falls a little short.  He is about to fall into the chasm but Wheeljack grabs him and pulls him up.  When they reach the base, they fire on the Solar Needle.  The Autobots’ attack is reflected back at them by a force field Megatron erected around the Solar Needle.  Cliffjumper disrupts the force field and the Autobots attack.   During the obligatory fight, Wheeljack engages Skywarp and knocks him down with an uppercut.  After the Decepticons withdraw, Optimus Prime orders Wheeljack and Ratchet to fully disable the Solar Needle.  One of the Solar Needle’s pillars is about to fall on Wheeljack, so Ratchet kicks a rock at it and prevents it from crushing Wheeljack.

When Megatron makes a Decepticon controlled clone of Optimus Prime, Wheeljack helps the Autobots set up a series of trials to decide which is the real Optimus Prime.

When the Autobots have some peace, Spike teaches them to play football.  The Autobots compete against the Dinobots.  Wheeljack tries to block Snarl.  The game ends when the Autobots are gathered inside the Ark for a mission briefing.  Optimus Prime detected energy flares from under the ocean.  Wheeljack volunteers to go with Optimus and the Autobots to investigate.  The Autobots use their hydrofoil mode to travel on top of the water.  The Autobots dive into the water and quickly encounter Atlanteans who attack the Autobots.  Wheeljack screams to Brawn to help him.  Then, the Atlanteans receive help from Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp.  Bumblebee and Spike try to escape to get help from the other Autobots.  Wheeljack stays behind to hold the Decepticons and Atlanteans off.  Laserbeak and Buzzsaw attack Wheeljack as the Autobots escape into a cave.  Wheeljack closes the mouth of the cave off with rocks using his shoulder missile.  Megatron and King Nergil capture Wheeljack.  Nergil plans to study Wheeljack so he can make weapons to fight the Decepticons with.  Nergil uses a magnetic weapon to restrain Wheeljack.  Bumblebee and Spike sneak into Atlantis to save Wheeljack.  They reset his systems and bring him back to full functionality.  Wheeljack, Bumblebee and Spike are able to get into Washington DC before the Atlantean force field is activated..  Wheeljack tries to warn Optimus Prime and the Autobots about Nergil’s magnetic weapon, but it is too late, the Autobots are already immobilized.  Wheeljack calls the Dinobots for help.  Bumblebee and Wheeljack arrive to the battle as Starscream attacks the Atlanteans.  The two Autobots leap into action and restrain Starscream.  Nergil’s magnetic weapon is destroyed by Grimlock and the Autobots are restored.  The Decepticons see defeat is inevitable and fly away.  After repairing Washington DC, the Autobots travel to Atlantis again to confront the Atlanteans and Decepticons.  Wheeljack, Bumblebee, and Spike try to prevent Nergil from detonating the Energon Cubes in Atlantis.  Soundwave doesn’t know Nergil is trying to destroy everyone and everything, so he sends Rumble and Ravage to stop Bumblebee, Wheeljack and Spike.  Both the Autobots and the Decepticons evacuate Atlantis when Nergil detonates the energy stockpiles.
Wheeljack, Bluestreak, and Optimus Prime are working on a project when Teletran 1 alerts them that Decepticons are approaching the Ark.  Optimus Prime and several other Autobots go to investigate.  Megatron and Starscream infiltrate the Ark and tamper with the Autobots’ recharging station.

Wheeljack is injured in battle when Megatron installs the Heart of Cybertron (aka the Star Drive) into his power core.  When the Autobots return to base for repairs, Optimus wants Wheeljack repaired first. Later, Wheeljack creates a force field generator that will hopefully slow down Megatron.

Wheeljack is part of an Autobot strike force that Optimus Prime creates to defend the Nova Power Plant from the Insecticons.  If the Insecticons consume the energy at the power plant, they will be invincible.  While most of the Autobots are fighting the Decepticons outside of the power plant, Optimus Prime orders Wheeljack and Ironhide to deal with the Insecticons.  They climb on the side of the electrical towers to breach the main generator.  Ironhide asks Wheeljack if he sees anything, Wheeljack doesn’t which bothers him.  Suddenly, the Insecticons burst out of the main building.  They have consumed massive amounts of energy which caused them to grow much larger.  Ironhide and Wheeljack are discovered by Bombshell.  The Insecticons transform into beast mode to attack the two Autobots.  Bombshell shoots Wheeljack’s tower, damaging it’s structural integrity.  Kickback then uses his strong legs to kick the tower down, sending Wheeljack crashing to the ground.  Wheeljack is trapped under debris, but Jazz and Hound rescue him.  Wheeljack and Ironhide are loaded into Optimus Prime’s trailer so he can bring them back to the Ark for repairs.  The Autobots learn that the energy which the Insecticons ate is going to make them explode.  Wheeljack and Ratchet work on a cure to prevent the Insecticons from exploding.  Wheeljack and Ratchet arrive at the battlefield just as the Insecticons are trying to steal the data from Iron Mountain.  Optimus Prime and Megatron work together to prevent the Insecticons from exploding using Wheeljack and Ratchet’s serum.

Wheeljack goes on a mission with the Autobots to save the staff of Quantum Labs.  Megatron reprogrammed a powerful computer called Torq III.  Torq III has complete control of the lab and confined the workers inside.  The Autobots are quickly attacked by the automated defenses which are being controlled by Torq III.  They are met by a squad of tanks which are also under Torq III’s control.  Wheeljack runs to one of the tanks and rips the turret off of it.  Wheeljack is the first Autobot to realize that the machines attacking them have no human pilots inside.  Once the Autobots realize that they are being attacked by computer controlled drones, they don’t hold back.  The Autobots are surrounded by tanks and the automated cannons start to target them. Optimus Prime orders Wheeljack to attack the automated cannons.  The tanks overwhelm the team of Autobots, but they are saved by the Dinobots.   Torq III uses an automated machine emerges from the control room to attack the Autobots.  After all of the machines are destroyed, Optimus Prime leads the Autobots into Torq III’s main building.  Torq III has altered the building to become a maze.

When the mayor of Central City declares an Autobot Day holiday, Wheeljack is part of the parade in vehicle mode.  Shawn Berger interrupts the ceremony with a tape of the fake Autobots fighting the Decepticons at the oil refinery.  Berger then shows another video taken of a fake Wheeljack telling a fake Optimus Prime that the Autobots have been using a device on the Decepticons to make them act evilly.  The Autobots are given a trial and are found guilty.  Their punishment is to be exiled from the Earth forever.  After their ship takes off, Megatron uses Teletran 1 to alter the flight plan to send the Autobots into the sun.

After the Autobots were exiled from Earth, Hound realizes that the Autobot ship is on a course to the sun.  The ship is destroyed and the world thinks the Autobots are dead.  They survive when Trailbreaker surrounds the Autobots with a force field and links it to Cosmos.  Cosmos guides the Autobots back to Earth.  Once the Autobots return to Earth, they follow Optimus Prime to a power plant to engage Megatron and the Decepticons.  Wheeljack uses his shoulder laser to attack the evil Decepticons.   The Autobots prove to be too powerful and the Decepticons retreat.

Wheeljack and the Autobots are inside of a rocket base to test a new weapon called the Negavator.  The device was created by Wheeljack to increase the Autobot arsenal.  The Negavator is a tank like vehicle which a Transformer can ride inside of that has the power to vaporize mater.  In it’s first test, the Autobots successfully vaporizes a space rocket.  Wheeljack is praised by Smokescreen, and Grapple jokes with Wheeljack, asking him not to point the Negavator at any that he designed or built.      The Autobots try to exit the compound, but they are ambushed by Rumble, Frenzy, and Ravage.  Ravage fires a missile at the door of the bunker.  The explosion prevents the Autobots from being able to leave to protect the Negavator.  Wheeljack realizes that Soundwave has a clear path to steal his invention.  Inferno is forced to short out the Negavator to save Optimus Prime.  Between the Negavator being shorted out and the small team of Decepticons being outnumbered and outgunned, Soundwave orders a retreat.  Red Alert was damaged in the first Decepticon attack and his mind has been damaged.  Red Alert has become extremely paranoid and is about to explode. Optimus then sends Wheeljack and Smokescreen to find Red Alert before he explodes.  Red Alert is saved and the Negavator is destroyed.

Wheeljack, Mirage, Hound, Sunstreaker, and Sideswipe travel over the water with their hydrofoils to New York City to meet with Optimus prime.. Earlier,  Megatron stole the Empire State Building.  As the Autobots sail passed the Statue of Liberty, they discover they are being spied on by Laserbeak.   They continue on their journey to meet Optimus Prime instead of fighting with Laserbeak..  Optimus Prime is defeated in battle and captured by the Decepticons.  Megatron takes control of New York City causing the Autobots and the human inhabitants of the city to leave in a mass exodus. .  While half of the Autobots are looking for Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, Ironhide, Sunstreaker, and Bluestreak patrol the streets of Manhattan.  Megatron has been rebuilding the city to be a fortress in his twisted image.  They see on top of the Empire State Building is Optimus Prime’s arm holding his Ion Cannon.  The Decepticons target the Wheeljack and the other Autobots with Optimus’ gun and uses it to attack them.   The Constructicons merge into Devestator to attack Optimus Prime.  As Devestator is starting to walk, he almost steps on Wheeljack.  Wheeljack gets inspiration from the movie King Kong and wires remote controls to two helicopters.  The helicopters attack Devestator with missiles, but he swats them away.  The Decepticons are defeated, Optimus Prime is made whole, and the Autobots help restore New York City.

Optimus Prime contacts Wheeljack aboard the Ark to send Autobots to provide back up to Bumblebee.  Wheeljack says that the crew in the Autobot headquarters is stretched too thin, so he sends the Dinobots to help.  Wheeljack has to beg and plead with Grimlock to help.  The Dinobots reluctantly travel to the airport to help Bumblebee, and Wheeljack wants to work on upgrading their personalities.  The Dinobots destroy the Decepticon base, but the Decepticons defeat the Dinobots.  Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Hoist work on repairing the Dinobots, but the Dinobots are severely damaged.  The three Autobot engineers are able to get the Dinobots functioning again.  Wheeljack asks Swoop to transform, but he can’t.  Wheeljack thinks he didn’t calibrate his circuits properly.  Ratchet makes some alterations, and Swoop transforms.  Optimus Prime contacts Wheeljack for a status update, and he is pleased to learn that the Dinobots are repaired because he needs them.  The Dinobots leave the Autobot ranks and go their own way.  Wheeljack follows Optimus Prime to a power plant that the Decepticons are trying to control.  As the Decepticons are making Energon Cubes, the Autobots arrive to fight.  All of the Autobots and Decepticons are malfunctioning in some way so they stop fighting to find out what is going on.  They find out that because they have been away from Cybertron for so long, they are deprived of an element called Cybertonium.  The only place that the element exists is Cybertron.  Spike and Carly enter the repair bay and tell the Autobots that they learned that Shockwave is sending Cybertonium to Megatron on the Space Bridge.    Wheeljack estimates that the Dinobots shouldn’t be effected since they were constructed on Earth.   Spike and Carly go to Cybertron, recover the Dinobots, bring back Cybertonium, and the Autobots are saved.

Wheeljack and Chip work together to create a new invention called The Dominator Disks.  The Dominator Disks will rewire the Constructicons to ally themselves with the Autobots.  Wheeljack and a small team of Autobots travel that night to the Decepticon drilling platform.  Wheeljack instructs the Autobots on how to use the Dominator Disks.  Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, and Jazz deploy afterburners from their hands to fly to the bottom of the waterfall.  The Autobots lure the Constructicons out of the Decepticon Base.  Wheeljack attaches a Dominator Disc to his shoulder weapon and shoots Hook with a Disk.    Later that night, the Autobots attack the Decepticons to lure out Devestator.  Wheeljack keeps Chip safe from inside of him.  Once the Constructicons merge, Chip activates the Dominator Disks and Devestator is under Autobot control.  The Autobots and the Constructicons return to the Ark.  Wheeljack watches as Hook performs microchip repairs on Jazz.  Wheeljack is amazed at the attention to detail that Hook has.

Wheeljack helps the Autobots attack a Decepticon Fortress that was making weapons out of stolen cars.  The battle is won by Tracks’ human friend Raoul who shorts out Megatron with spray paint.

Spike and Chip propose to Optimus Prime that the Autobots participate in a race for charity.    Ratchet, Brawn, Huffer, and Wheeljack remain behind to guard the base.  At the race, the Decepticons attack and use a device to trap the Autobots in vehicle mode.  Bumblebee, Spike, and Chip return to the Ark so Wheeljack and Ratchet can come up with a cure.   Wheeljack creates a grenade which is able to restore the Autobots’ ability to transform.  Hound sends the Ark a holographic message so the free Autobots know where to save the captured Autobots.  Wheeljack and the free Autobots travel to the Decepticons’ Ghost Town with Spike and Chip.  As soon as they arrive, the are attacked by Decepticons.  Thundercracker chases Wheeljack while firing missiles at him.  Wheeljack is able to defend himself and knocks Thundercracker out of the sky with his shoulder cannon.  Skywarp teleports to sneak up on Wheeljack and fires missiles at him.  Wheeljack drops the grenade and it flies into the air.  Spike catches it and tosses it to Chip.  Chip activates the grenade and restores the Autobots’ ability to transform.

The Decepticons covered themselves with a substance called Electrum which makes them unable to be damaged.  Wheeljack prepares to defend the Ark from the Electrum enhanced Decepticons.  The Decepticons defeat the Autobots, but they let all of the Autobots survive.  After Powerglide finds the source of the Electrum, Wheeljack goes to the lagoon with the Autobots to coat himself with Electrum.

Wheeljack shows up in Lord Chumley’s dungeon after Optimus Prime frees the Autobots.  Once the Autobots are rescued, they rush Astrotrain and Blitzwing, forcing them to retreat into the air.

Powerglide crash lands in the desert.  Wheeljack travels inside of Ratchet to rescue him.  Together, Ratchet and Wheeljack repair Powerglide.
The Decepticons steal a device from Wheeljack’s lab on Cybertron.  After the Autobots and Decepticons fight over the device, Wheeljack reveals that he was never able to get the device to work.

Optimus Prime organizes a mission to go to Cybertron and prevent Megatron from giving life to the Stunticons.  Wheeljack travels inside of Omega Supreme’s rocket mode to Cybertron.  When the Autobots reach Cybertron, they hurry to reach Alpha Trion.  Optimus Prime knows that Alpha Trion understands more about Vector Sigma than any other Autobot, so finding him would be a good start.  When they reach his domain, they find a large hole in the structure. Wheeljack comments that Alpha Trion’s base is junkier than it has ever been. The Decepticons already got to Alpha Trion and stole the Key to Vector Sigma from him.  Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Hoist are able to repair Alpha Trion.  When the Autobots reach Vector Sigma’s chamber, they are met by Centurion Droids which are loyal to Megatron.  The Autobots are unable to defeat the droids, but Hoist and Ratchet rewire dead Autobots to lead the droids off a cliff.  When the Autobots finally enter Vector Sigma’s chamber, they are awestruck.

All of the Autobots that went to Cybertron to prevent the Decepticons from reaching Vector Sigma work together to build the Aerialbots.  Once they are complete, Optimus Prime plans to bring the mindless Aerialbots to Vector Sigma so it can breathe life into them.  Wheeljack points out that the Decepticons still have control of the Key to Vector Sigma.  Alpha Trion sacrifices himself to reactivate Vector Sigma without a key and the Aerialbots are given life.  After fighting their way back to the surface through another army of Centurion Droids, the Autobots and Aerialbots take Omega Supreme to Earth.  Once the Autobots arrive home, Omega Supreme explodes.   While Ratchet works on repairing Omega Supreme, Optimus leads several Autobots to a military base to check up on the super fuel that they were protecting earlier.  He drives with Wheeljack and Hoist (which makes you wonder why they weren’t trying to help Ratchet repair Omega).  The military thinks that the Autobots were the ones who attacked their base, when it was actually the Stunticons.  Just as Optimus brokers a tenuous peace, the Stunticons race towards the Autobots at 300 miles per hour.   Blaster and Ironhide walk towards Optimus Prime and Wheeljack to help them fight.  They are forced to scatter when Breakdown tries to run them over.  Dead End chases Wheeljack in vehicle mode while firing lasers from his headlights.  Air Raid swoops down and launches two missiles at Dead End, saving Wheeljack.  The Aerialbots turn the tide of the battle, but they are very arrogant. The battle ends not because one force is more powerful than the other, but because Megatron wants the Stunticons to return to him.  After the battle, Wheeljack helps Ratchet and Sparkplug repair Omega Supreme (finally).

Wheeljack picks up energy signatures of fast moving, ground based Decepticons.  Optimus Prime quickly realizes that it is the Stunticons.  The Stunticons are attacking various locations and the Autobots leave their base to foil the Stunticons’ plans.  Wheeljack and Ratchet remain in the Ark.  .  They learn that the Autobots were able to overcome the Stunticons when each Autobot team returns with disabled Stunticons.  Wheeljack studies the items which the Stunticons stole and theorizes that Megatron was planning to combine them into a weapon. Ironhide, Ratchet, Hound and Wheeljack respond to the alarm when the real Stunticons break out of their cages.  The Stunticons merge into Menasor to escape.  Wheeljack and the other Autobots are injured and Menasor returns to the Decepticons to expose the disguised Autobots.  Later, Wheeljack goes with a team of Autobots to rescue the disguised Autobots after they are discovered.

Wheeljack goes to Paris with several other Autobots to take part in the Europa 2000 race.  The race is a competition for the best drivers in the world that starts in Paris and ends in Istanbul.  The winner gets a large sum of money as a prize, as well as a large donation in his or her name to a charity.  The Autobots participate in the race and if they win, they will donate all of their winnings to charity.  One of the racers, Augie Cahnay, objects that the Autobots are participating in the race.  He feels that since they aren’t human, they are too advanced for the human drivers and unfair competition.  The race’s judges allow the Autobots to participate since the race is for charity.  Augie doesn’t know that Optimus Prime sent the Autobots to protect him and his advanced car from the Decepticons.  Wheeljack explains to Tracks that Augie’s car was built by Symultech Industries and is custom made for Augie.  Wheeljack seems to be very impressed by the car’s design and construction.  Wheeljack scans the car with a scanner in his hand.  He learns that Augie’s car has an engine made of an unusual metal.  The Autobots transform into their car modes and prepare to start the race.  When the race starts, Bumblebee tries to keep up with Wheeljack.  Wheeljack warns Bumblebee not to blow a gasket.   Augie drives very dangerously, but he also drives with precision. As the race continues, Augie gets more and more reckless.   The race continues through Europe into Turkey.  While driving, Wheeljack admires the view from the Black Sea.  Wheeljack is coming close to the end of the journey, but as he speeds down the road, he sees Motormaster barreling towards him on the same side of the road.  Motormaster sails into the air after driving off a bump in the road.  He lands on top of Wheeljack, knocking him off the road.  Wheeljack rolls to the side of the road and quickly recovers.  He drives away to continue on the race, but Motormaster spins around to follow him.  Motormaster continues his pursuit of Wheeljack, and even though Wheeljack is more nimble, Motormaster is able to keep up on the winding road.  Motormaster sends himself into the air and lands in front of Wheeljack.  He comes to an abrupt stop which makes Wheeljack have to swerve off the road.  Again, Wheeljack is able to avoid damage and continues his path for the race.  Motormaster gets into gear and continues hunting Wheeljack.  Wheeljack takes a short cut by driving off the road, but Motormaster mirrors him and lands on top of Wheeljack, crushing him.  Wheeljack is forced to drop out of the race.

When the Aerialbots return from their rescue mission, they walk into a room where Optimus Prime is meeting with Ironhide, Wheeljack, and Ratchet.  Teletran-1’s alarm goes off and the Autobots learn that there is danger on Cybertron. The Autobots and Aerialbots take Omega Supreme to Cybertron to find out what the energy readings are.  The Autobots and Aerialbots transform and split up to search Cybertron.  While the Aerialbots are on their own, they try to talk to the Decepticons to learn more about them.  Starscream tricks the Aerialbots into entering a time machine.   Optimus Prime is forced to destroy the time machine to prevent the Aerialbots from going back in time to the Big Bang.  Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Ironhide work together to repair the Kronosphere to return the Aerialbots to the present.  Wheeljack searches the building for spare parts and is able to repair the Kronosphere.  He activates the return function and in two minutes, the Aerialbots will be back.  Unfortunately for the Autobots, the Decepticons attack the compound.  Optimus Prime leads the Autobots in defending the Kronosphere until the Aerialbots can return safely.    Before the Autobots can expel the Decepticons, a headless Guardian Robot tears the roof off the building and attacks.   The Aerialbots return and as Superion, they destroy the Guardian Robot.  The Decepticons have lost another battle and the Autobots return home.

Perceptor creates a substance called Corrostop.  The Autobots want to use it to protect all of Earth’s man made monuments.  The first monument that the Autobots work on is the Statue of Liberty.  Wheeljack helps spray the Corrostop on Lady Liberty.  Perceptor is infected by Cosmic Rust by Megatron.    Wheeljack uses Teletran-1 to learn more about Cosmic Rust. He learns of the Autobot Colony of Antilla.  Antilla was the first recorded case of Cosmic Rust and everyone disintegrated.    The only known cure is Perceptor’s Corrostop, but the Autobots can’t make more.  The main ingredient has been used up and Cosmos was unable to find any on another planet.  Wheeljack wants to try to use the matter duplicator but it never functioned properly.  All of  the Autobots behind them, they are all covered in Cosmic Rust.  To make things worse, Megatron is using his Lightning Bug weapon at a very low setting on the Ark.  The energy of the Lightning Bug speeds up the Cosmic Rust infection.  Perceptor rallies up enough energy to attempt to make the matter duplicator work with Wheeljack.   It works and the Autobots plan to return to the Statue of Liberty to get a sample of Corrostop.  After the Stunticons and Decepticons are defeated, the Autobots are able to get a sample of Corrostop and save themselves.

Wheeljack is killed in 2005 during the battle in Autobot City.  Arcee finds his dead body in the wreckage.  In the Japanese continuations of Transformers, Wheeljack shows up alive, but that becomes retconed that the Wheeljack that appears is from an alternate timeline.

Marvel G1 Comic

Wheeljack is randomly shown in the beginning issues of Marvel Comics’ run of Transformers.  Mainly in the background or in fight scenes.  He was part of the crew of The Ark, the spacecraft which crash landed on Earth 4 million years ago that held both Autobots and Decepticons.

His first real mission on Earth was to back up Jazz in trying to get the wealthy industrialist GB Blackrock to ally himself with the Autobots.  Starscream and Frenzy attack, while Wheeljack and Jazz protect.  Circuit Breaker attacks the Decepticons and while Wheeljack goes to thank her, she attacks him because he is a “Robot” and she hates all Robots for paralyzing her.  She severely damages Wheeljack and storms off.

Wheeljack isn’t really shown that much for several issues.  The next time he is shown, he is unveiling The Aerialbots, who he built using combiner technology Bumblebee stole from The Decepticons.

Wheeljack’s next invention is a chemical tracker which he attaches to Skids so Skids can locate seven missing Autobots.  Wheeljack then locates the Cerebro Shell which was implanted inside of Optimus Prime by Bombshell.  He removes it, preventing the Decepticons from listening in on Autobot plans anymore.  He reverse engineers the shell, giving The Autobots the ability to listen in on Decepticon plans.

After Grimlock becomes the new leader of The Autobots, his first priority is to recover the Cybertronian tools which The Mechanic stole.  Wheeljack meets with Grimlock, Blaster, and Goldbug, explaining a plan he has to track the equipment.  He gives the coordinates of the equipment to Blaster and Goldbug.

Wheeljack’s next invention for Grimlock is a Geothermal Generator.  It is able to harness Geothermal energy into Energon Cubes so the Autobots don’t have to be reliant on GB Blackrock or any other humans for fuel.  Wheeljack also informs Grimlock that they have finally finished repairing The Ark and it will be space ready soon.  The Ark flies into space to capture Blaster who was using Combaticon Blast Off as his personal spacecraft.

Wheeljack realizes that Grimlock is out of control and contacts his friend Sky Lynx to come help the Autobots.  Wheeljack delays the capture of Blaster, saying that he is having trouble tracking him, and Grimlock starts choking Wheeljack.  When Wheeljack sees that Blaster is using Blast Off, he starts thinking that maybe Grimlock is right, but Blaster needs to tell his side of the story instead of being immediately destroyed.  One of the children that befriended Blaster helps him escape, but Blast Off is caught by The Ark.  Wheeljack takes care of the children and shows them around The Ark, assuring them that they won’t be hurt.  Wheeljack uses one of his devices to make spacesuits for the children, so they can survive on the Ark in space.  Slag then orders Wheeljack to bring the children to Grimlock.  Grimlock makes it look like he is going to execute the children, and Sky Lynx saves them.  Grimlock orders The Ark to follow Sky Lynx, but Wheeljack tells him that Sky Lynx flew into a meteor shower and it will destroy The Ark.  Grimlock takes The Dinobots and leaves The Ark to follow Sky Lynx.  Blaster takes advantage of this and sneakily boards The Ark where Wheeljack explains that the children are safe and Sky Lynx is his friend.

Wheeljack is eventually killed in battle, but brought back to life by Grimlock who used Nucleon to bring a number of fallen Autobots back to life.  Wheeljack is part of the group of Transformers who find Optimus Prime, barely clinging to life.  Prowl asks Wheeljack if he could fix Optimus, and Wheeljack explains that the only thing that is keeping him alive is residual Matrix energy.  Repairing Optimus Prime is beyond his abilities.  Optimus Prime soon dies (again).

Cybertron self destructs, but Wheeljack is able to escape before it is destroyed.  The Autobots go to the planet Klo to stop the Decepticons from conquering it.  The Decepticons were prepared for an Autobot attack and wind up killing many Autobots.  Wheeljack is about to be killed by Bludgeon when he is saved by Hi-Q and the Neo-Knights.

IDW Re-Generation One

Wheeljack remained an Autobot engineer in the decades of peace.  When Optimus Prime went to Earth to save it from Megatron, he accompanied Optimus as part of an assault force.  After the Autobots saved Earth, he helped with clean up duty, mainly burying the Zombie Decepticons.
