Windcharger

G1 Cartoon

Windcharger was a member of Optimus Prime’s crew on the Ark.  He was much smaller than the majority of the Autobots. He had magnetic abilities and a tractor beam which was vital to the Autobots numerous times.  He transformed into a small red sports car.

The first time he sees action is when Hound makes a holographic rocket base.  Because of his small size, Windcharger acts as a human scientist.  Although in later episodes he wasn’t AS small.  The Decepticons see through the trap and don’t get defeated.  While the Autobots were trying to ambush the Decepticons, they were at a different site getting the energy they needed.  Now that the Decepticons have enough energy to return to Cybertron, Optimus Prime and the Autobots attack the Decepticon base to prevent them from leaving Earth.  The Autobots arrive at the same time that the Decepticons are boarding their ship.  The Autobots have the upper hand in the battle, but the Decepticons retreat to their space cruiser.

Windcharger and Brawn use Skyfire to get to the Andes to fight the Decepticons.  Together, the two Autobots jump out of Skyfire to attack.  Windcharger lands on Reflector and tosses him into the ground.  Windcharger transforms into car mode and is chased by Laserbeak.  Windcharger calls Skyfire for back up.  Brawn jumps onto Windcharger’s hood, and together they reenter Skyfire to escape back to the Ark to get reinforcements.  They return to Peru inside of Skyfire and fight the Decepticons at a foundry.  Once Megatron gets the metal he needs, he and the Decepticons retreat back to the Inca Temple.  The Autobots then make their way to the Inca Temple to battle the Decepticons.  As they approach, Megatron fires the cannon at the Autobots, but they are able to dodge his attacks.  The Decepticons attack in force, and the Autobots are trapped behind cover.   After seeing Optimus Prime and Ironhide attack Megatron, Windcharger and Brawn climb the stairs of the temple.  They are intercepted by Starscream who injures Windcharger with his lasers.

After Sparkplug is captured by the Decepticons, Windcharger joins Cliffjumper and Brawn as they dig a tunnel under the ocean to save Sparkplug.  Windcharger’s magnetic abilities help the three Autobots find the Decepticon base.  Once they detect the base, Brawn punches a hole in the tunnel.  Windcharger, Brawn, and Cliffjumper swim to the Decepticon headquarters and save Sparkplug.   Windcharger, Hound, and Bluestreak help rescue Bumblebee after he fell in a hole.  Windcharger’s tractor beam is instrumental in recovering Bumblebee.  The Autobots are forced to evacuate their base when the volcano that houses their ship becomes active again.  Windcharger, Huffer, and Ratchet are caught in the explosion, but Skyfire saves them from destruction.

The Autobots receive a series of distress calls from Bali.  The Insecticons are attacking villagers to steal their food.  Windcharger goes with Bumblebee and Brawn aboard Skyfire to battle the Insecticons.  Skyfire takes the team of Autobots to a farm that is being attacked by Insecticons.  Once the Autobots exit Skyfire, the Insecticons attack with fireball launchers. The Insecticons’ attacks aren’t powerful enough to harm the Autobots.  The Autobots think it is going to be a very quick battle because they have the Insecticons outnumbered and out gunned.  The three Insecticons work together to create an army of Insecticon clones which overwhelm the Autobots.  Windcharger and Bumblebee are forced to scatter when the Bombshell clones fire a barrage of missiles at them.  The Insecticons rush at the four Autobots and Spike, forcing them to retreat.  The Insecticons follow the fleeing Autobots into a corn field.  The Autobots are trying to hide while they wait for reinforcements.  Shrapnel fires a sphere from his hand that sprays shrapnel across the field.  Windcharger uses his magnetic powers to deflect the shrapnel and protect the Autobots.  The Autobots are given a brief respite when Megatron and the Decepticons arrive to recruit the Insecticons.  The rest of the Autobots show up and save Windcharger, Brawn, Bumblebee, and Skyfire.

Optimus Prime recruits Windcharger to join him and several Autobots on a mission to defend an Air Force Base from the Decepticons.  Early in the battle, Windcharger and Ratchet are behind cover and together they fire on the Decepticons.  Soundwave flies behind them and shoots both of them in the back.  The Decepticons retreat when they realize that the battle cause all of the rocket fuel to be destroyed.

Windcharger joins the Autobots when they investigate a mass of energy filled crystals in a valley. Before the Autobots can continue their study, Starscream leads the Decepticons to attack the Autobots.  The Decepticons quickly retreat and the Autobots return to the Ark.  Spike and Windcharger realize something is strange about Optimus Prime.  Together, they confront Optimus about it.  Optimus says that when he fell in battle, it must have damaged his circuits.  Teletran 1’s proximity alarm goes off and the Autobots prepare for an attack.  The real Optimus Prime walks through the entrance and the clone orders the Autobots to destroy him.  The Autobots decide to make a series of tests to figure out which is the real Optimus and which is the impostor.   After the Autobots can’t decide which is the real Optimus, Ironhide takes command of the Autobots.  The Autobots travel to the desert to a crevice filled with energy crystals.  Windcharger and Spike stay back behind the battle and see Starscream and Laserbeak come out of a mountain.  They figure out that it is a Decepticon base and sneak into it.  They and see Starscream and Laserbeak come out of a mountain and fight each other. They figure out that it is a Decepticon base and sneak into it.  They learn that Megatron created the fake Optimus (obviously) and that the clone is going to lead the Autobots into the energy crystals where they will be destroyed.  After they watch Megatron create a clone of Starscream, they try to escape.  Laserbeak discovers them and chases them as they rush towards the door.  Laserbeak grabs Spike, and Windcharger falls into the energy crystals..  Windcharger survives by transforming into vehicle mode and his tires insulate him.  Windcharger emerges from the energy crystals and tells the Autobots that Spike has been captured by the Decepticons.  Clone Optimus doesn’t try to save Spike, and this tips the Autobots off on which Optimus is real.  Together, the Autobots shoot Clone Optimus and send him into the energy crystals where he is destroyed.

Windcharger joins an Autobot force to reinforce Optimus Prime when the Autobots travel to South America.  The Decepticons discovered the existence of a crashed Decepticon ship in the jungle.  Megatron integrated the Star Drive of the ship into himself and become more powerful.  Windcharger is damaged by Megatron in the battle.  When Megatron attacks the Ark, Windcharger and Cliffjumper work together to defend it.  Megatron defeats both Autobots.  Megatron is defeated when Perceptor, Brawn, and Bumblebee shrink themselves and disconnect the Star Drive.

When the mayor of Central City declares an Autobot Day holiday, Windcharger is part of the parade in vehicle mode.

Windcharger participates in the Autobot race for charity.  The Decepticons show up with their new device and use it to trap the Autobots in vehicle mode.  The race ends with no clear winner because the Autobots kicked up so much dust, no one could tell who won.  After the race, Sunstreaker tries to entertain the crowd by jumping over the Autobots.  He falls short, but Windcharger catches him with his magnetic beam.  The Autobots learn they are trapped in vehicle mode when the Decepticons attack.  Optimus Prime tells the Autobots to transform and prepare for battle, but they can’t.  Optimus Prime commands the Autobots to attack the Decepticons while in vehicle mode.  The Decepticons subdue the Autobots by shooting out their tires and overheating their engines.  The Autobots are captured and brought to Megatron’s ghost town.  Megatron plans on using a crushing device to destroy the Autobots. , Wheeljack, Ratchet, Brawn, Huffer, Bumblebee and their human friends arrive with a grenade that restores the Autobots’ ability to transform.

After Powerglide finds a source of the Electrum, Windcharger goes to the lagoon with the Autobots to coat himself with Electrum.  The Electrum coated Autobots fight the Electrum coated Decepticons, but neither side is able to damage the other.  During the battle, the Decepticons’ Electrum wears off and they are forced to retreat.  Unfortunately, the beautiful valley that hid the Electrum poll was destroyed in the battle.

Tracks and Bumblebee are captured by the big game hunter, Lord Chumley.  Windcharger helps the Autobots search for them.  Lord Chumley tries to capture Windcharger by driving a train into him, but Windcharger avoids capture.

Using camouflage paint, Optimus Prime, Jazz, Sideswipe, Mirage, and Windcharger disguise themselves as the Stunticons and infiltrate the Decepticon base.  Optimus Prime makes himself look like Motormaster.  Jazz resembles Dead End, Sideswipe as Breakdown, Mirage as Drag Strip and Windcharger as Wildrider.  Wheeljack gives Optimus (as Motormaster) the ruby which the real Motormaster stole so Megatron will think that the disguised Autobots are really the Stunticons.  The fake Stunticons transform and head to Megatron’s base.  Windcharger is excited to be on the mission.  Laserbeak approaches the fake Stunticons to lead them to the Decepticon base.  Jazz prepares to attack Laserbeak, but is reminded that they look like the Stunticons.    When the fake Stunticons reach the apex of the new Decepticon base, they wait for orders.  Megatron fires his cannon into the air and the fake Stunticons are unsure what that means.  Optimus assumes that it is an invitation to join him, so the disguised Autobots start to drive to Megatron.  They continue to drive responsibly like Autobots, not recklessly as a Stunticon would.  Windcharger starts to feel uncomfortable pretending he is a Stunticon and Jazz tells him to be quiet so they maintain the illusion.  Starscream is the first to notice something is not right when he sees the fake Stunticons driving so well.  Megatron assumes they are driving safely as to not damage their precious cargo.   Megatron completes his weapon and the fake Stunticons want to steal the ruby before Megatron can activate the cannon.  Before they are able to steal it, the real Menasor flies into the crater.  The Autobots continue the charade by using Windcharger’s magnetic abilities to link up as a phoney Menasor.  The two Menasors fight, but the real one uses his sword to disrupt the magnetic lock.  The Autobots tumble to the ground and their disguises disappear.  The Autobots transform and start to open fire at Menasor.  Mirage and Sideswipe fire missiles from their shoulders at Megatron.  Megatron prepares to use the cannon on the Autobots.  Menasor is barely effected by any of the Autobots’ attacks.  Menasor swipes his arm at the Autobots and they scatter.  Megatron tries to fire his cannon,  and it hits a rock.  He tries to fire again but it explodes.  Ironhide had altered the ruby core while the Autobots had possession of it.    Menasor is about to attack the Autobots, but even more Autobots arrive to help.  With the cannon destroyed the Decepticons fly away since there is nothing holding them there.

Windcharger is killed by the Decepticons in 2005 during the battle of Autobot City.
